"The Wild Brood" was one of the 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' that didn't wow me all that much, with me feeling on first watch that it was a mistake to reveal almost everything too early. Still watched it anyway, as part of my relatively recent 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' rewatch. The rewatch of the whole show was a hugely rewarding experience, found it a great show on first watch and still consider it one of the best shows in the Scooby Doo franchise and many episodes fared better on rewatch.
One of the episodes actually that fared better on rewatch was "The Wild Brood". Still didn't find it a great episode or one of the show's best episodes (by a longshot admittedly), but there was a lot to like and the story, while far from perfect, was also a lot stronger than remembered. "The Wild Brood" may not be a great episode of 'Scooby Doo:Mystery Incorporated' or of the Scooby Doo franchise in general, but it is still a good one and doesn't disgrace it in much shape or form.
Starting with the good things, "The Wild Brood" contains some great animation. That is particularly great in the action scenes. Speaking of the action scenes, of which there is plenty and more than a sizeable amount, they are thrilling and entertaining thankfully. Especially when on the train. The music is still catchy and atmospheric and the writing thought-probing and funny.
Furthermore, the brood themselves are not too scary and they aren't obnoxious either. There are plenty of funny moments, namely with Fred and with Sherriff Stone. The animation is vibrantly coloured, richly detailed and atmospheric, especially in the train scenes. The music fits well and doesn't intrude. The character interaction and writing are spot on, as is the voice acting.
However, Mr E and his knowledge of the website password is a loose end though and should have gone into more detail rather than feeling like set up.
The solution is on the rushed side and the mystery is somewhat too slight and again too easy.
Overall, good episode though not a great one. 7/10.
