Inspector Borowski - Borowski and the fourth man
Tweekums9 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens a man walks through a snowy woodland inspecting illegal animal traps; he has a shock when he discovers a severed foot on one of them. When he reports his find to the police he understandably omits to mention that he found it in a trap. He reluctantly tells Inspector Borowski that he works for the wealthy family that own the land. When Borowski gets to the owner's house he finds them having a bit of a get together and soon learns some shocking truths… not only does he discover the traps but he also finds a live bear caged in a barn and evidence that shows that they had been illegally hunting a variety of animals that they had released into the woods. The owner of the foot is soon identified and the pathologist confirms he was dead when it was removed. It isn't long before a second body part turns up; this time a hand belonging to somebody who took the hunter's pelts to a tanners… it looks as though the killings could be the work of an animal rights extremist but Borowski isn't so sure; some papers found at the second victim's home suggests that there could be a financial motive. To help look into this angle Borowski seeks the advice of a recently retired member of the fraud squad. Meanwhile the hunters think they know the identity of the killer and decide to deal with him themselves.

This episode, shown as Episode Two of 'Inspector Borowski' here in the UK, was pretty good. It started well with the discovery of the severed foot and continued to be gripping throughout. The group of hunters may have been a little cliché; wealthy, arrogant and with a sense of entitlement that made them fairly despicable but that also made them good suspects. The story is told at a good pace with key facts emerging regularly throughout. The resolution of the final murder is perhaps a bit far-fetched but not enough to detract from the episode overall. The fact that everything was covered in snow gave the episode a great atmosphere. The sight of some of the dead animals may be disturbing for some viewers although if you aren't bothered by the opening scene when a dead fox is retrieved from a trap the rest should be okay. Axel Milberg continues to impress as Borowski and the rest of the cast are pretty impressive too. Overall a solid episode with plenty of suspects, most of them fairly unpleasant, and enough clues to hint that something isn't quite right about the final killer.
