From prisoner to ambassador, what?
raj-bhullar7 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I can't seem to understand how a country like Canada who didnt like Gilead, allowed a prisoner to be free and not only that let them be an ambassador? What is going on with this show? It doesn't make sense.

Also people supporting Serena? Really? So they are ok with raping women and taking their kids from them? I can't stand those people. Canadians are not like that.

Also June has been acting weird lately. I get that she has PTSD but her character has been doing stuff lately which isn't smart.

But there are some good moments here and there. Serena and June confrontation scenes have been good. The show connects emotionally well. I hope future episodes are great. Previous seasons have been awesome. And I want this show to return to greatness. So far this season has been a mixed bag.

Better than the first 3 episodes of season 5...
christiankg-851-20343329 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode shows a "free" June trying to reach Serena and a "free" Serena trying to reach June (great acting from Yvonne Strahovski by the way). There was a little bit of action and we could also see the tension escalating for the next episodes (I hope so). I wish I could se some more flashbacks to be honest, this is getting to unreal and not as frightening as the first seasons. Episode 4 shows a weak Canada and I dont get where is the international opinion from other countries over the situation (they talked a little about Venezuela too and I dont get the point of that).

Some questions that I keep looking for an answer over the series: where's the US government that has been installed in Alaska? Whats happening elswhere in Gilead besides the northeastern US? Okay we see a lot of rebels that flew out of Gilead but what happened to them? Is it so easy to get to the US/Canadian border and theres no patrol at all (lets remember that Gilead is at war)? What about the people fleeing to Mexico or elsewhere? They dont do any research about it?

The producers/writers are going to have to be really creative and smart to end this show as a good show, it seemed easy at first but its becoming quite frustrating. In my opinion I could see something better than the last 3 episodes of season 5. This show should have ended on season 4, but as a fan Im gonna have to be patient with the plot holes and the filler episodes.

Dear Offred
bobcobb30110 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
An odd thing about this show is the geography of everything and just how much the population has dwindled. Is it really to a point where you can just walk into the border of Gilead and in Canada and into these no man's land spot? It doesn't seem like that would be the case and yet that is the way it is presented.

I am engaged and I do want to see where they go from here, but the season needs to ramp things up a bit. How far are they going to punish Serena? Will they make her a handmaid? Or is that not at all what is going to happen and there won't be any repercussions coming down the pike for her?

This show can still make it if the writer can settle the key turning point down.

Warning: Spoilers
First of all I wanna say I'm also a dude watching this show ,and I kinda wanna see this show can still get it. I like this show cause the main structure of the story was such innovative instead of discrimination or religions. Everybody watch this show can tell this show is spinning of so bad currently. And the structure of paradigmatic system such us shooting and editing are getting exploitative and lazy.(too much emotional close up),It's time to settle down the turning point of aunt Lydia and hide some real plot turning . In short,it's time to surprise us by successional tension of ture written works. There are still fans like me are waiting and looking forward a decent finale.

Season 5 Finally Picks Up!
coasteraddict-1679629 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was never one to trash this show for being "slow," but I'll admit season 5 had a slow start. This episode finally gives us what we've been waiting for! So many tense scenes with June surrounding her confrontation with Serena.

This episode also has a lot of character development. Aunt Lydia begins to see the error of her ways thanks to Janine. Luke finally falls victim to Serena's ways and begins to enable June.

Overall this episode was so gripping and makes me wonder where the show is going next. There's no doubt it has some steam in it, and I can't help but wonder how long Serena can last given the circumstances. Hopefully this one's rating goes up from where it is now!

Serena's Liberating Ordeal
badeclerck3 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In the latest episode of The Handmaid's Tale, Serena finds herself navigating a complex web of freedom and restraint, highlighting the intricate power dynamics at play within the dystopian world of Gilead.

After departing her detention center thanks to the intervention of Mark Tuello, albeit primarily orchestrated by the exiled American government, Serena's newfound liberty comes with strings attached. Refusing to seek political asylum, she is released under the condition of residence within a specially crafted institute, courtesy of her male compatriots. Here, she's assigned a fictitious job to keep her occupied and out of their affairs. However, any official diplomatic engagements to promote Gilead's way of life are mysteriously thwarted by her male counterparts, keeping her role in international relations strictly "informal."

Meanwhile, tensions escalate in Gilead as Aunt Lydia's vendetta against Esther is met with defiance from Janine, who seemingly holds immunity against Lydia's verbal assaults. Attempting to redeem herself, Lydia proposes a disturbing alteration to the adoption system, only to be swiftly shut down by Joseph Lawrence, adding to her growing list of adversaries.

June struggles to contain her rage, grappling with PTSD and confronting instances of past trauma. Despite her efforts, provocations from strangers and former oppressors push her to the brink of violence. Nevertheless, she demonstrates unexpected resilience, restraining herself from retaliating against Serena and overcoming the temptation to resort to lethal means.

Luke's futile attempt to coerce Serena into aiding their quest to rescue Hannah underscores his realization of her formidable resolve, a truth June has long warned him about. Their shared desire for Serena's downfall leads to an unexpected moment of intimacy amidst their mutual disdain.

As Serena seeks refuge with a wealthy, devoutly Gilead-supporting Canadian couple, the extent of their fanaticism becomes alarmingly clear, raising questions about the boundaries between devotion and obsession within Gilead's ideology.

In this episode, The Handmaid's Tale delves deeper into the complexities of power, resistance, and redemption, offering a chilling portrayal of a society on the brink of collapse.

This doesn't work
armandogpa1 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Dying of success.

This show had a wonderful start, the first season were just perfect. The timing, the performances, the music, the cimetography... one could feel that every second of the show were developed with extreme care and every line gave us information and emotion.

The second and third season were great, we gladly accepted the incoherence of June surviving once and again alrhough she was caught betraying Gilead a hundred times because she was our heroine and we wanted to see more of her odyssey.

The beginning of season four was epic with the best episode of the show directed by Moss, the 4x03.

Then it started the dissapointment.

From the milk train to the never explained ressistance of Chicago.

Once she arrives to Chicago, one has the expectation of her I organizing and leading a movement which informe and recruit justice fighters against the hell she was forced to live in.

Instead of that writers began to show they didn't know how to follow the story coherently and realistic at all.

First Canada was furious against the Waterfords and Gilead, then they didn't only not punished them but negociated a deal of free Fred in exchange of information against Gilead to finishing traded him for 20 prisoners.

And in this 5th season not only release Serena from prison but gave her everything she asked for, even a private jet scorted by the very people who imprisoned her in order to give her the chance of becoming a starmedia.

Canada even gave her and Gilead a whole embassy. That is too much for the common sense. It just don't work, no matter how many first-shots of Moss's face you show us.

This is not Handmaid's Tale anymore
vagus-36-4656271 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not a tale, just a political drama eventually. The handmaid's narration has stopped for this season, so it doesn't feel personal anymore. It's more like many other revenge stories that were made before. Moss is a great actress, but less than great since the first episode. Same angry expressions that seem forced, same enraged and even deranged behavior. The story seems to follow a path near to the last Atwood's novel, which is quite interesting. But the episodes are dull, feels like kinda all over the place. I loved the first 2 seasons, an imporant TV milestone for many of us, so I feel truly disappointed now. No high hopes for the future.

There's nothing here
Leofwine_draca15 November 2022
I'm still astonished by the poor quality of the show at this point, and the way it continues to get rave reviews from committed fans. Yet it leaves me cold every single scene, and seems to me to be the most artifical, lukewarm, repetitive and plotless television show in history. The only story now is Offred vs Serena, that's it, and with storytelling so limited it just drags on and on and on. Background stuff seems made up on the spot, there are shoehorned in sex scenes in place of anything with more depth, and extra characters are brought back just to fill space. If this is the future of American TV then count me out!

The worst of the season - Spoilers
AnnaLopez00716 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has to be one of the worst of a terrible season. June and Luke's lack of chemistry is cringeworthy, and awkward. I find myself fast forwarding most of their interactions which has been most of this season. I felt like I was watching a read-through of a bad soap opera performed by the stand-ins. Trying to change Luke's character as a hail-Mary play in the 8th inning is unbelievable and confusing as an audience member. June running around Canada with zero purpose is just boring. Please shift back to this amazing supporting cast [June, Nick, Lawrence, Janine, Lydia, Esther & Gilead].
