Good ep!
dashwilson-400005 October 2022
This is another solid ep for this season. It's a game of chess - all the pieces are being lined up for the final battle next season.

Yes it's 'slow' and it's not nearly as good as season 1-3 but it's way better than 4 - it's actually saying something.

If the writers are smart and focused this show can end on a high. Suspend disbelief and go along for the ride. The politics in this show are actually arguably its best part.

Serena is great to watch this season too after a lacklustre 4th. Very glad this show is ending but this season is intriguing again. Bradley Whitford is also a standout again this year.

Let's hope they get the next few eps right. Praise be.

Aunt Lydia
dakjets6 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
As a big fan of the series, I have been a little disappointed after the first few episodes of this season. A main reason is that I think the previous seasons showed a more complex picture, more different scenes and with a richer gallery of characters. Perhaps the absence of Emily and Commander Waterford is part of the reason? But one of the strengths of the series is its ability to constantly surprise us. Here it is the character Aunt Lydia who surprisingly shows us new sides. The series creators' ability to constantly develop the characters in accordance with the plot is unique, and once again we see an exciting development in one of the mainstays of the series. This will be exciting to follow!

Unveiling Truths and Brewing Tensions
badeclerck2 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In the third episode of The Handmaid's Tale Season 5, the enigma surrounding June deepens as she grapples with unanswered questions, particularly regarding her daughter's attire at Commander Waterford's funeral. Seeking clarity, she turns to the one person who holds the key: Nick. Accompanied by Moira, June embarks on a journey to the border, where they encounter a group of women facilitating communication with Gilead-a group led by Lily, affiliated with Mayday. June's realization of Mayday's existence dispels any doubt she harbored, affirming its tangible presence.

June's efforts lead to a crucial phone call with Nick, who unveils the significance of her daughter's attire: Hannah's enrollment in a school for prospective wives. Nick also reveals his recent marriage, a revelation met with a surprising sense of happiness from June.

Meanwhile, within Gilead, Janine lies in a coma, evoking a rare display of vulnerability from Aunt Lydia. Wrestling with guilt, Aunt Lydia implores for forgiveness and Janine's recovery, even as she tends to the comatose Esther. Her prayers are seemingly answered when Janine awakens, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.

Serena finds herself amidst intrigue during a dinner at Commander Lawrence's residence, attended by the Mackenzies, Nick, and his wife Rose. Commander Lawrence presents Serena with a gift for her unborn child, a knitted sweater crafted by Rose. As conversation veers towards their common adversary-June-Commander Lawrence expresses concerns over June's relentless pursuit and proposes drastic measures, signaling a brewing conflict.

Outside, Nick's interaction with Tuello is interrupted by the suspicious arrival of Commander Mackenzie, raising tensions and hinting at deeper connections. Commander Mackenzie's veiled warning to Nick underscores the precariousness of his position, adding another layer of intrigue.

Amidst these developments, Serena contemplates a potential alliance with Commander Lawrence, hinting at a possible marriage. However, her plans are disrupted when she receives orders to return to Toronto as a Gileadean ambassador-an obligation she reluctantly accepts.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 5, Episode 3 delivers a compelling narrative that unravels existing mysteries while seeding new questions, particularly surrounding June's intentions towards Serena. As tensions escalate and alliances shift, the stage is set for a tumultuous showdown, promising further intrigue and suspense in the episodes to come.

I was worried after last season but WOW
rodrigues-3918922 September 2022
This season has not missed a single beat. The storylines are interesting and have us guessing how it will all go down going into the next and final season. The acting this season is on top form especially on the part of Yvonne Strahovski and Ann Dowd. These women have taken on their characters so well and after five seasons we feel their pain, anger, sadness etc: through their acting. The first three episodes have been nothing but intriguing and the dialogue has kept me hooked on every last word.

This season may just be the revival this series needed. IF YOU EVER STOPPED WATCHING A FRW SEASONS AGO, THIS IS YOUR SIGN TO RETURN!!

Warning: Spoilers
Is Aunt Lydia really going to become good or is it just another tease, something they have teased a couple of times throughout the show's run?

Not sure yet, but we will see. The season is not off to the greatest start, but they did fix a big issue I was worried about initially and that is if this is simply going to be revenge zombie June nonstop whining and screaming. It is not all of that, but there is still far too much of that for my liking.

The show still has a good setting and decent cast and even if everything feels a bit repetitive that is enough to keep long-term viewers hooked and engaged with it.

Her own staff and funds?!?!?
valerie-807515 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The high command selected a WOMAN to represent Gilead's interests in Toronto?!?!? A WOMAN?!?!? Really?!?!? Women are not allowed to read in Gilead but they selected Serena to represent them? And to supply her with her own staff and funds?

Am I watching a different show? I was certain they were going to make her a handmaid. After all she can get pregnant.

That would be the way to serve God and to be useful according to Gilead... At least, Gilead as it was portrayed during the first 4 seasons. Even if it's a ploy or a grand plan that will be revealed in the future, it is contradictory to everything that was shown during the first 4 seasons. It's a shame really.

Such a YAWN fest
lostknowledge123 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What has happened to this show? It's so slow, tedious, boring - I could almost not stay awake. Three episodes in and nothing has happened - Literally NOTHING has happened. Such a shame as the last season was quite good and made you think there was an uprising or something action packed happening....... yet, NO! Just watching paint dry/

I honestly don't know how this show is still going and better still, it's been renewed for a season 6!

I am sure the last two episodes of the season will be riveting and exciting, but we just got to get past the next 5 episodes before anything even happens! Such a disappointment.

Ridiculous absolutely ridiculous
armandogpa25 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Where is this show heading to!!!???

The saddest thing that can happen to a show is turning fake, illogical, nonsense and loose its very essence. And it is happenning here.

It is obvious they are intoxicated with the success of the first seasons that they didn't know how to handle it. First, hire good writers for God's sake!

There is nothing new exciting or remarkable here.

The characters have lost the things that made us love them.

June is no more intelligent, reflexive or meticulous and doesn't know what is her goal anymore, revenge, regret, turning herfelf in, going to the ballet, the meaning of the colour of her daughter's dress... she risks the ressistance and Nick just to ask about that!!!???

Serena is everything in just three episodes, prissoner, traitor, free woman, hated and admired widow in Gileat, possible Bradley Withford's wife, embassador... that is range for a character in just a week!!!

Aunt Lydia was despiadate and wanted to stone the very same maid she is praying for now!!!???

What now, she is becoming a ressistance member?

Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

Everything's bad
Leofwine_draca11 November 2022
Another dreadful episode, carrying on the tradition of season four. Here, Offred gets bored of hanging around for hours on end doing absolutely nothing with those other boring characters she was so desperate to escape to, so she heads off to join up with some equally boring rebels. Serena once more has an extremely limited character that doesn't seem to go anywhere at all, and all of that carefully grey build-up in seasons one and two has long since dissipated. Everything feels false here: the actors are bored and champing at the bit to get their teeth into something important, something substantial, but the writers won't give it to them.
