Adapting To The Changes
zombiemockingbird20 May 2022
Have loved this show from the beginning and weathered the cast changes fairly well. This episode was overall just kind of blah and uninteresting. I really miss Florence, but I also really like Naomi; jury is still out on Darlene. As for Izzy, I'm hoping she goes away very soon. Obnoxious, irresponsible people are not entertaining or amusing.

Lovin' Darlene

I had questions about how exactly the writers would go about bringing Darlene on as part of the team. But, I'm very pleased with her addition. I've enjoyed the character of Darlene since her first appearance. She's bringing a measure of adult compassion and stability to the team.

Episode 11.6

Eve Wilding rings the police to report a murder and is then found lying in the swimming pool.

The police manage to revive her and they notice that someone tried to strangle her.

DI Neville Parker is left wondering if Eve was reporting her own murder.

The Wildings and Mills are two families from Ireland. They arrived in Saint Marie to celebrate the life of Orla Mills late husband.

A memorial trip that uncovered some family secrets.

Meanwhile Cornelius StBrice is due to get married. He is looking for a man who was meant to supply items for the wedding reception but has gone missing.

Maybe the missing man is an important clue to Eve's attack.

It is a solid if unspectacular story. I noticed that Neville's allergies have gone but he has a new irritant in his sister.

A good episode.

A family have arrived on the Island to scatter some ashes, one of thr group is viciously attacked, after she contacted The Island Police and planned to report a murder.

A good, solid episode this, the trend for more serious, less frivolous episodes continues here, this is another one I'd class as quite serious, it worked rather well I thought.

Izzy definitely won me over somewhat, she's been rather irritating since arriving, we learn here why she's so highly strung, definitely much better.

Darlene makes an impressive start in her first episode as a fully incorporated member of the team. She somehow managed to overshadow Naomi a bit, who felt a little sidelined. I did feel the void left by Florence.

Cornelius was definitely an interesting character, very much larger than life.

Not a classic, but good, 7/10.

Quite complicated.

Warning: Spoilers
The 11th season of "Death in Paradise" has been solid so far with only the fourth episode being very underwhelming. This entry is yet another enjoyable one. It's not great, but miles away from bad.

Let' s start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values of this episode are great like usual. The direction is gorgeous and the music fits the scenery. The acting's fine. Ginny Holder continues to be lovely as Darlene and out of the decent guest stars Nicholas R. Bailey is the most interesting.

. The mystery is suitably complex. There are some clever twists and turns and the solution (Orla being the one, who is the attacker) is satisfying enough. Izzy is much tolerable than she was in the previous episode.

But....

. At times the writing can be quite sloppy at times with some untied endings and unnatural dialogue.

. There are way too many subplots in this story, which do not always collide with the main plot, making the mystery itself hard to follow some time.

Overall, a good day in Paradise.

7/10 HK.

Kill Izzy, please, please, please

Unfortunately, another episode with the chatacter Izxy, DI Parker's witless sister, intruding on the viewer's sensibilities. Hopefully this wanton character is hastily dispatched by whatever means necessary to ensire that she never appears in this series again. Otherwise, another enjoyable bit of pleasure following another story of the small constabulary on a Caribbean island, that must have been colonized by the French because they drive on the right side of the road, not the left. This is the first episode with a civilian as part of the investigative force, which is otherwise composed of trained members of the police force. Di Parker has grown on me by now, but I still long for a return of DI Mooney or DI Goodman.

A good solid episode

I thought this was the best episode of the series so far. The mystery was engaging and challenging. I have to agree that, much as I love Darlene's character, she did overshadow Naomi somewhat. Izzy was less irritating this week. Hard to believe that she's played by Kate O'Flynn, who was superb as a returning character in Father Brown. I loved the Cornelius StBrice character. Hope we see more of him. They seem to be playing down Neville's allergies, it's as if the scriptwriters have forgotten all about them, thankfully.

Izzy pop

Warning: Spoilers
Here the main plot intersects with the sub-plot, but I wondered how did Jonty died back in Ireland (the Republic of Ireland not Northern Ireland). This isn't really answered so that line of thought was left wanting.

Izzy is pregnant and she runs away. Not sure where, but she runs away.

Also, the two coronial guys make another appearance removing the dead body. I have no idea who the actors are, but they are a steady presence in Death in Paradise. They don't seem to be in IMDb even though they should be.

When Florence (Josephine Jobert) left Death in Paradise for the second time a couple of episodes ago, I spared a thought for Aude Legastelois who played DS Madeleine Dumas after Josephine left the first time towards the end of season 8.

Recently Aude admitted that she didn't have much on-screen chemistry with Ralf Little, unlike Ardal O'Hanlan who shared chemistry with the whole cast even though he was the lead.

Maybe justice can be done and Aude can return to replace Josephine for a second time please.

Jump the shark?

Have enjoyed this series since the start. Have watched multiple times. But, having said that, this episode is showing the writing is getting stale. Darlene character, is a bit unbelievable, and a couple of others, too. Will finish the season, but if it continues, we will pass next season.

Weak

Warning: Spoilers
This was a very annoying and overcomplicated episode.

Apparently by the law of 'DiP' you can go from suspect one week to being a member of the police team the next. Enter Darlene, a character who pretty much sucked any life out of the normally reliable Marlon in the process.

Poor Naomi has suffered since being bumped up to DI too, and they badly need to flesh her character out a bit more in S12.

As for Izzy, I fear she is beyond hope, and if they need a murder victim for the next episode I might have a suggestion. I thought this show was done with the big silly comedy characters? Clearly not.

Poor again.

Poorly written
samlong-517102 June 2022
In the space of one episode this great show goes downhill fast with Darlene coming onboard, it doesn't make sense like some of the characters they have introduced in the past. She is poorly cast, a very average actor and not believable like the character of Ruby.

Sadly following from the lose of Florence it has really dragged the show down.
