Franco De Sade (2008)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This 21-minute interview with director Jess Franco can be found on Blue Underground's release of EUGENIE DE SADE, which stars Soledad Miranda and Paul Muller. Franco starts off talking about the first time he discovered the works of Marquis de Sade and why he found it so cool to be able to read something that was banned in Spain. From here he talks about De Sade as a writer and what drew him to his material. This takes up the first portion of the featurette and the rest deals with what made Miranda so talented and captivating on the screen. Franco talks about a variety of subjects including casting her in his movies, their work on COUNT Dracula and how she was always willing to do whatever he asked. He also talks about the day she died and why he and Lina Romay always felt she was around them. Overall this is another excellent documentary from David Gregory who gets a lot of great stuff from the director who always has great stories to tell. The stuff with Miranda is a terrific listen and you can just tell by the way Franco speaks of her that she meant a lot to him.
