Na Onka Mixon and Kelly Shinn left the game at a point when the people who were voted out were going to the Jury. Because this situation was unprecedented, they were allowed to remain on the Jury. In future seasons, the rules were changed so that if someone voluntarily left the game after the Jury started, they would be excluded from sitting on the Jury.
For the first time in Survivor history, two people voluntarily left the game at the same time.
The tribe suffered a devastating fire which damaged their tarp and burned up most of what was left of their food. After the reward challenge, Jeff Probst offered a tarp, rope and enough rice to get the tribe through the end of the game if one person from the winning team would forgo the reward and return to camp with the losing team. Despite voicing her decision to leave the game at the end of the day, Na Onka Mixon did not give up her place at the reward. In a heroically selfless act, Holly Hoffman gave up her spot at the reward to help the rest of the tribe.
