Collecting retro videogames is fun, but depending on what system you’re into, it’s getting increasingly expensive...
Some of videogame history’s most eye-catching stories are reliably about failed software and hardware and catastrophic sales.

One of the earliest fables in the medium’s brief history surrounded the tie-in game for E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial - a game whose supply so outstripped demand that copies of it were famously buried in the New Mexico desert. Headup Games have today announced they’re set to partner with Nicalis, Inc. on a physical release of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 at major retailers in Europe as well as Australia/Nz. Headup Games and Nicalis are partnering with DotEmu for this retail release – so all of you out there who, like me, missed out on the Limited Run physical release can now grab a copy!
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is a beautifully drawn and animated remake of the unforgettable Sega Master System game Wonder Boy III. Cursed and turned into a half-human, half-lizard monstrosity by the Meka Dragon, our hero will have to explore the many traps of Monster Land in order to find a cure. The game’s developer, Lizardcube, reverse-engineered the original game in order to faithfully replicate the character movements, item drop logic, secret door locations and much more.

It sounds like the Nintendo Switch is the new place for Indie as several developers are coming forward and saying they've sold more copies of their game on the platform than all other platforms combined.
The trend first started last week when the makers of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap delivered the shocking news to the internet. Now, the makers of Oceanhorn: Monster of the Uncharted Seas and Death Squared are reporting the same thing with the latter reporting their Switch sales outperform all other platforms combined by about 200-500%.
That's pretty substantial, and while some may be quick to say it's due to Nintendo's lack of a virtual console on the platform, you can't deny the appeal of portability. Personally, I've found many indie games I typically wouldn't give the time of day far more tolerable when I'm just looking to hop in for something quick while I...

Go 8-Bit's Steve McNeil salutes the PS4 and its commitment to retro gaming...
If you’ve got a PS4, you might assume it’s just one of those new-fangled computer gaming devices the young people use for whizzbang graphics and whatnot. But it’s actually host to a hidden treasure trove of retro classics too. You’d be forgiven for not noticing, as many of them are buried in the darker corners of the Playstation Store, but they’ll languish there no longer – here’s what you’ve been missing out on…unless you’ve already bought them, in which case, as you were…

Hamy Ramezan and Rungano Nyoni's 'Listen', to screen at the Zenith launch..
Zenith, a new Australian-based Svod platform focused on short films, is set to officially launch this week.
The nascent start-up is the brainchild of Melbourne.s Becky Strong, who told If she wanted to create a space online to showcase indie and arthouse short films and promote emerging filmmakers..
.We understand how hard it is to break into the industry and want to provide a new avenue for filmmakers to get their name out there,. said Strong, who graduated film school three years ago. ..
.With the rise of affordable new technologies anyone can now make a film (which is a great thing), however festivals and markets are becoming over saturated with entries. Stocks of the Nes Mini are running short - but you could try buying an original retro console from eBay. Here are some tips...
Nintendo have something of a reputation for not making enough of their products. The Wii, amiibo, and now the Nes mini were all rarer than hen’s teeth upon launch.
Received wisdom is that scarcity drives demand for their products but, if I live to be 100, I’ll never understand why you wouldn’t try to make enough of your things so that everyone who wants to buy your things can buy your things. But then I only did the one business degree, so what do I know?
If you were one of the many people hoping to get your hands on a Nes mini for yourself or a loved one this Christmas, but missed out on the initial launch stock, despair not.

Running, collecting fruit, throwing hammers. All the ingredients you need for a simple yet fun game. Ryan looks back at Wonder Boy...
To our jaded, seen-it-all 21st century eyes, Wonder Boy looks like the product of a more innocent time. This is, after all, a game about a lad in a loin cloth who rides a skateboard and throws hammers at snails. In terms of scale and sophistication, it isn’t exactly Fallout 4.

But there’s something charming about Wonder Boy’s simplicity: the way it forces you to relentlessly press forward, balancing carefully-timed jumps with the need to get to the end of the level as quickly as possible.
