This is for me the weirdest flick to review. The director, Davy Bosschem, is not unknown for me. Back in those days of television work he used to be a camera assistant in programs were I was involved. Years later when he finished school I came across him again at work and he told me he wanted to make a feature. Still a short but he was sure of his stuff. But I had seen so many independents going wrong at so many points that I never believed he could make a flick. He asked a bit of advise concerning effects because he knew my acknowledge of horror and weird flicks, I even told him were he could sell his stuff on the Web but suddenly the DVD was out there, he was selling it at work...
The first thing I noticed was the cast. I guess that he just couldn't complain about that. But I knew that Louis Talpe of Mega Toby fame would like to show the world that he could do other things than only making television for children. And I must say that he really convinced me. For me it's strange to see Lotte Vannieuwenborg and Bert Verbeke acting in such kind of flick. I knew them from working with them at the series Thuis and the Ketnet set, a few months ago. But the acting here is sublime. By everybody.
The only point that I could be bragging about is the use of shaky camera's. Here again, the steadycam operator I knew for years. To compare it with other shorts I saw recently this really is a gem. This is worth watching and must be seen. Davy is really ready to make a full feature. The editing and the use of washed colours done at colour grading did add something towards the story.
I knew that we talked a lot about the killings and the effects being used and the way it should be done. Here again I was surprised about the amount of red stuff being used.
The biggest problem is to release this flick, being a short no distributor is interested so I guess so far he's walking around with the DVD's trying to sell them. Still, Davy if you are reading this, there are a few sites online specialized in promoting shorts and independents. Hopefully you will find your way. A must see.
