An offbeat romantic comedy about a decent guy, Ray Tuckby, with a dead-end life in the dead-end town of Trona, CA. After encouragement from a stranger whom he happens upon, Ray begins to dream again. He sheds the parasites in his life, musters the nerve to pursue his childhood love, and finally takes back his community by toppling the local teenage Meth-baron.
A few uncomfortable moments, but mostly hysterical
I think Allen Gregory is poised to become another one of FOX's animated hits. I saw the pilot tonight at an advance screening, and it was very funny. I love how ridiculously and grossly pretentious he is...and also adorably seven years old at the same time. The contrast works beautifully. A.G. does this thing where he completely shuts out any adult who tries to tell him something he doesn't want to hear, and it's amazing. I especially hope to see more interactions with his teacher because she really has no hope. And the principal? Oh my goodness. You'll never think of roller coasters the same way again. Probably the most unexpected, ridiculous, and amusing relationship between two television characters I've ever seen. I will admit, though, I found the relationship between his two dads to be a little off-putting. I know there were moments when they wanted me to laugh, but I felt too uncomfortable to do so.
But all in all, I really enjoyed it. I'm definitely going to be tuning in, and if you're a fan of FOX's current animation block, I suggest you do the same.
