Fanaticalaboutfilms Review: Scrat's Continental Crack Up
iReviewFilms13 January 2011
Scrat and his inanimate sidekick go on their next mini adventure into the unknown. It's got it all- drama, comedy, action and a fair amount of Scrat's yelping to boot. Will he finally get his nut and retire happy?

There's just something about this lovable creature and his never ending quest that always makes me smile. Not his best one but definitely worth a watch for a couple of good moments. Can't go wrong with a 3 min short can you!

Even if it wasn't meant to be originally, he is easily the best thing in the Ice Age films and I hope when the next one comes out for the summer blockbusters of 2012 he gets as much screen time as the last one.

Entertains in such a short running time...
TheLittleSongbird8 March 2011
I quite like the Ice Age films, they are colourful and entertaining with good characters, wit and voice acting. Scrat's Continental Crack-Up was really quite impressive, while I personally think the short could have been a tad longer, I was really taken with how much I was entertained in such a short running time.

The story is a very simple one, but you don't mind that at all when it goes at a great pace, while the animation is very good with great backgrounds, colours and designs of the characters and the content of the short is constantly very funny sometimes even hilarious for both kids and adults.

Scrat himself is a big part of the cartoon's success. He is so cute, funny and zany, and one of my favourite characters in the Ice Age films, and his character(persona, facial expressions and yelps) and misadventures here ceaselessly delight.

All in all, a very entertaining short and perfect to go with the Ice Age films. For Scrat fans, they will probably find they have a match made in heaven with Scrat's Continental Crack-Up. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Some may be offended
charlytully22 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this for the second time recently, before RIO (I'd seen it New Year's Day before GULLIVER'S TRAVELS, as well) and rated it 7 out of 10 (again, though quite independent of my first impression, since which a little water has gone over the dam, including Asia's Continental Crack-up). Scrat was hilarious BOTH times.

However, during my more recent viewing (with a different audience make-up, of course), there happened to be a group behind me who were "tsk-tsk'ing" to their young children off and on during this short cartoon's 2 minute, 39 second running time. Evidently, the parents thought that the theory of continental drift had something to do with Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution. Or perhaps they took exception to the toon's depiction of the world being round (not flat).

At any rate, when I first saw Scrat's science lesson, it never occurred to me that many folks of the fundamentalist religious persuasion might be vocally offended by seeing a hint of actual science. Maybe foisting such provocative material upon a "captive audience" expecting to be paying for pretty bird antics was another insidious plot by Hollywood J--I mean, Hollywood atheists. I still don't think this gives the intolerant boo-birds the right to disrupt the movie-going experience for those of us who actually live in the 21st century with both halves of our brains. Therefore, an urgent plea to parents: if you go to church in either a converted grocery store or a sold-out 5,000 fan arena, please show up 2 minutes and 39 seconds LATE for RIO!! You'll be doing a favor not only for yourself, but also for the rest of us!

Scrat remains the best of the Ice Age films even if this is only a "good" example
bob the moo23 October 2011
I remember when the first Ice Age film came out, this little character was used to sell the film and audiences watching the trailer featuring him trying to get his acorn seemed to love it. Years later I have not watched the most recent Ice Age films but I still find myself (a grown man) tickled by the short films and adverts given over to Scrat. In this one continental drift sees him and his acorn fall into a deep fissure. How deep? Well, he ends up in the very core of the Earth on the large metallic sphere at the centre. For some this is a bad enough day but sadly for Scrat, this is only the start of his problems.

This short is less than 3 minutes including the credits but it is still very funny. Perhaps it is not quite as funny as some of his earlier shorts, but the physical comedy is essentially the same and the exaggerated nature of his plight is too. I chuckled a few times right through to the usual cruel punch line as yet again Scrat is denied the simple pleasures of his acorn. Well animated and with a lovable character, Continetal Crack-Up perhaps isn't the strongest little sequence we've had from this film series, but it is more than good enough to draw quick laughs from adults and children.

More Scrat Magic!
night_silviu12 January 2011
Scrat and his beloved hazelnut "help" our planet take the shape we know today. It's quite a funny reel. I gave it a 10, but others might be more "critical" as it may not be the funniest Scrat appearance.

These mini-clips are always enjoyable and seem to get their job done - making you wanna see the movie. (They worked on me, as I got to see them all *lol*) I think the first movie was just great (a fun, well-made animation with a good story). The sequel was also nice, but didn't quite rise up to the level of it's predecessor. The third one, I enjoyed the most. Perhaps because it introduced Scratte and it looked really cool with 3D glasses.

Hope the next Ice Age will be even funnier than the previous ones. (Go Scrat!)

Scrat's Continental Crack-Up was a highly entertaining funny computer-animated short
tavm27 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Just watched this very funny computer-animated short before the feature Rio. In this one, the Ice Age squirrel keeps trying to protect his acorn to the point of inadvertently forming the world as we know it now. I mean, he seems responsible for forming such great continents like Austrailia, Africa, and countries like Italy (with a humorous turn as a kicking boot). He even initially makes the Mount Rushmore in his images! Just seeing Scrat go around the world frantically making what he does here is enough for me to laugh hysterically over the nearly 3 minutes this short runs. I read this first appeared before Jack Black's Gulliver's Travels back in December but I arrived a little late then so today was the very first time I've watched this short which we barely managed to see after arriving late for the previews. So in other words, I highly enjoyed Scrat's Continental Crack-Up especially in 3-D.

Masterpiece Work... Makes Me Eager For Next Ice Age
guptigate12 January 2011
A beautiful concept well executed with help of animation.. If world comes to an end and we loose all traces of science except this video.. Scrat will be the creator of Earth...

Best Scenes Of this Video 1. Mummy Sculpture Of Scrat Pops Up 2. Scrats sculpture similar to Rushmore 3. Scrat again misses its acorn in the end.

I was always a fan of scrat and Ice Age. Makes me eager to see the next sequel in 3D with eye-popping effects.. Scrat is ultimate in this work of art.

Way to go Creators Of Ice Age

He just doesn't have it
Horst_In_Translation11 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I really wonder what is more impossible for Little Scrat. Finally keep the acorn or carry his own movie. In my opinion, it's the latter. There are some decent jokes in here in this five-year-old 3-minute film (dor example Ice Age characters as Presidents), but none of these have directly to do with this story's hero. Also the reference of Scrat being responsible of the shape of the continents and their position was used a long time ago in an Academy Award nominated earlier Scrat cartoon already. Looks like they really struggle to come up with something new. So, perfect position they are in to make a second short crack-up film I guess huh? Some franchises just bleed out so much. Then again, I did like the 4th "Ice Age" film. But Scrat on his own never did too much for me. Also, during the films he was the weakest component most of the time. Not recommended.

Who knew a squirrel could achieve so much?
Gordon-1119 February 2011
This short animation is about Scrat and him ferociously guarding his nut, resulting in the world we know today.

It seems Scrat is widely loved, and people do not get tired of him. So there is a new short animation, and it is very funny. The plot is simple, as yo would expect from an animation that is only three minutes long. And yet, it has unlimited imagination that makes you smile.

So, Scrat's mindless action is responsible in shaping the world we know today. Not only in the geographical sense, but the heritage and cultural sense as well. Who knew a squirrel could achieve so much in so little time?
