Love the whole series and I watch documentaries like them to try and help understand people but while watching this one, I couldn't help thinking about the torso that was found. I couldn't help thinking that maybe the torso was switched out for the wife's. If he is a doctor, maybe he had access to a body that he could swap out for hers but still had to get rid of it so dumped it. If it was found and wasn't hers than it wouldn't be connected to him. I don't know where to suggest that to someone who could investigate the idea, if they would, could or had.
As for as understanding people, the only ones I can see why they began murdering are the ones who had been in prison once for a crime of sexual assault or violence and then when they get out start killing and I believe that it is because if they kill, they believe that they will be safer from getting into trouble again since their victims can't talk.
