'Grimm Masterpiece Theater', or 'Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics', is a series well worth tracking down. Am not a fan of every episode it will be admitted and some components were unevenly done throughout the series' two season run. Most, almost all, of the episodes though are above average to very good, although none are perfect. Overall though, it should be of great interest for anybody who loves fairy/folk tales and animation/anime, both the case with me.
'Iron Hans', or 'The Man of Iron', is another great story from Brothers Grimm and their style is all over it, but again it is not one of my favourites. Being mainly not one of those stories grown up with, which admittedly shares a little part in what are my favourites or not. In my view, this series does a very good job with it, in detail and spirit it is truer than most episodes in the series and if anybody who loves the story and hasn't seen any adaptation of it yet and wants to, this is worthy enough. One of the best episodes in my view.
Was though not a fan of the voice acting of the hero character. It didn't in my view fit the character and came across as somewhat wimpy. Hope this doesn't cause any offense to anybody saying that.
That aside, 'Iron Hans' is one of the series' better looking episodes. The first portion looked especially good, quite wonderfully dark, and the titular character is very formidably animated. Also it is one of the series' better scored, the music for the early portions are quite haunting. The intro is charming. With one exception the voice acting is not bad at all, that for the imposing titular character in particular standing out being positively booming.
Dialogue is neither too simplistic or too complicated and the characters compel. The titular character making the most impression in particularly later on. The story has atmosphere and charm, even with the occasional slow spot.
Summing up, one of the better episodes. 8/10
