However with youth and skills on her side the dole office has something else in mind for her and sends her off to job interview after job interview. But is there a way of staying on the dole, at least until her internship starts?—Anonymous
- A recent university graduate (Anna McGrath) decides to go on the dole in between graduating and starting her new high-powered job. However, the dole office has different plans for her. Owing to her youth and skills they feel that she will definitely find employment by the end of the week and won't be forced to use the dole at all. To help her along they send her out to a job interview a day for the rest of the week. However, our university graduate, keen to take a few weeks rest and stay on the dole, hatches a plan to make sure she doesn't get any of the jobs on offer. She decides to stuff up every interview she attends and tailors her stuff-ups to the job on offer.
Her first job interview is with a barristers chambers. Realising that such an institution would be an ultra-conservative workplace she dresses up in outrageous clothes, makeup and a fake tatoo and acts surprised when the barrister is not interested in hiring her.
Her next job interview is as a tour guide. Realising that the two skills that every tour guide needs are a big public speaking voice and a big personality, she ensures that she is as boring and as timid an interviewee as the Museum of Rural Living will ever see.
Her third interview is with a programmer who is really looking for an eye for detail in his next employee. As she explains enthusiastically that she has a wonderful eye for detail the employer cannot help but notice that she has overlooked the fact that she has an enormous lipstick smear all the way up her face.
For her last interview for the week with an Accounting Firm she is starting to run out of ideas and so pretends to be a "hypochondriac extraordinaire" with so much sickness that her days of availability are limited.
When she gets home after a fairly long week she realises how tired she is. She has had to work quite hard this week and her dole was certainly hard-earned.
