Amusing little short played straight to good effect
bob the moo6 March 2011
A man sits in prison where he must spent the next twelve years for the murder of a rival who was muscling in on his turf.

This little short starts out as a straight drama of a convict talking about his crime of murder and it does just what you expect from this sort of thing as we get a re-enactment playing out under his words as he talks his way to a moral message to those listening to him via this film. So, on the face of it, it is just another little morality piece playing for some entertainment value. The comedy and value of the film though comes from the slight twist that this rival is not someone from the drugs trade or other specifically criminal activity and in the light of this (revealed very early on in the short) everything is slightly comic even though the film plays it straight.

It is amusing and Collins plays it well but the film does drag a little bit at the end. OK it seems unfair to criticise a film for over-running when it is not even four minutes long, but that is the case here – it could have had part of the final minute trimmed a little and been punchier for it. It is still pretty amusing and clever though and the less you know the more amusing it is because the "reveal" carries it for several minutes on the strength of the idea – which is why I am taking care to say very little. Amusing and worth a look for what it is.
