Mokhtar is a Shia Muslim leader who set up a movement in 686 A.D in the town of Kufa to avenge the death of Imam Hussein (AS). 'Mokhtarnameh' is the sixth TV series directed by Mirbaqeri. The series, which took five years to complete, includes 42 episodes and is produced by Sima Films. The story reviews the events leading to the martyrdom of the Imams and ends with the adolescence of Mokhtar. The film also deals with 16 years of Mokhtar's life and includes the death of Mo'awiyah, the succession of Yazid ibn-Mo'awiyah, and the events leading to Ashura and whatever related to the uprising of Mokhtar until his and his companions' martyrdom I saw this film one of the best TV film. real story and history of Mokhtar. I suggest everyone to see this. enjoy and learn.

The war scenes are extraordinary, keeping in mind that Iran's movie industry is 10 years behind Hollywood, technologically. I watch Mokhtarnaame every week and enjoy it. You may find it on YouTube and/or www.soltanworld.com.
I think the series have a message to Iranian people. Watch and listen closely. You may hear the message too.
Some tips: " Imam Hossein (AS) is called MORTAD by Yazid's people. Meaning he doesn't believe in God." " Whomever speaks against the government, will be killed or put behind bars." and many other things.

Mokhtarnameh has been the undisputed champion of Iranian TV.
Despite all the problems of censorship and meeting arbitrary thresholds imposed by the state TV, and the narrow minded criticism from few critics, it remains watchable even today, after multiple airings every year around the same occasions. It also tailors itself to a broader audience with its non-religion-specific appeal. What keeps you interested is well-balanced so as not to be exclusively and neither be devoid of any cultural background.
The most gripping part is the brilliant well-thought screenplay, so Shakespearean I'd dare say it fares quite well in comparison to timeless renowned TV shows starring the best of Hollywood.
I wish we, as Iranians, got more of this. I wish filmmakers and TV producers put more effort into their work than the hollow mediocre cash grab that everything seems to be nowadays. I wish every show was a Mokhtarnameh.

Mokhtar was a well-known Shi'ite warrior who raised after Hossein and his followers had been killed in Karbala. In fact after Hossein's killers killed him and his followers, they captured their family and brought them to Syria. In this trip they carry the heads of the killed people in front of their families and on the way they do everything to increase the suffers and pains of their families. Unfortunately the killing of 72 men in Karbala was considered as a main victorious for Yazid's government and they celebrated it. However it became the begging of their fall because this behaviors caused a huge rage between Muslims and they decided to eliminate this government and took a bloody revenge from Hossei's killers. Almost all of these villain were killed brutally by Mokhtar and his followers. This bloody revenge is the main reason which causes a fear that prevent the next government from repeating similar behavior about Shi'ite leaders.
This TV series is mainly devoted to the story of Mokhtar's revenge and his efforts for wiping out the killers of Hossein and his followers. By the way, Mirbagheri (the director) tried to tell a brief story about some of the prominent faces between Hossein's followers in Karbala in some flash back scenes, too. He also briefly showed the other efforts and wars from the other group before Mokhtar's move for revenge (unfortunately they were not strong enough).
The directing and acting are good and even in some episodes we can say they are really good, however there are some problems in this TV series. The first is bad fighting scene and some Mokhtar's fictions which are not very interesting. after imam Hossein killed in Karbala ( city in Iraq ) a revelation happened in shies heart in Kofeh and different group of shies Muslims raised because of that event and also Mokhtar was one of the who could take the revenge of people who killed in karbala . it's the second work of Mirbagheri after imam Ali . lots of history-religion movie have made by Iranians director but lots of people believe that Mirbagheries work are the best between them . his work are so close to the real and the dialogs are attractive and exiting . this series took around eight years to make and you can see that most of cast choose correctly and they matches to their characters .

However, the series was produced by IRIB/Iran and the director was forced to censor and remove parts of the series. But it is definitely a fascinating story for Shiite followers. Production of this series took 12 years

One of the best Iranian motion pictures that has been ever made. You can sense the high quality of the story, the great ability of the actors/actresses, and historical and religious value of this major work. Not forgottable, not deniable. This movie is and will remain great.

Let's say I have NOT watched a show so many times as much as this one.
Even though I know the story (true story) of a man named mokhtar althakafi who avenged the death and slaying of Imam Hussein the son of Fatima the daughter Prophet Mohammed peace be upon them.

I am writing this review a couple of days after the release of The lady of heaven, which tells the story of lady Fatima the daughter of Prophet Mohammed and the mother of Imam Hussein the Prophet's grand child.
I think this review is late but its just becuase I made a late account here on IMDB.
Long story short.. They director does amazing job just like reliving everything from locations to buildings and clothing etc.. Just watch it and enjoy.

This series is most best series in Iran and Middle East and I suggest to everyone curious to islam whatch this series.
Mokhtar had a smart man and politicsest in islam history.
Story about revenge for killing emmam hoseyn.
And acting in movies it very natural and ther have a strong Violence and evry episode is beautiful and has a greet lesson and learning about islam history and when born the different tow gropes of Islam and why islam made a tow Grope and ther have learn about humanity and Brutal of human.
This series is very good but people of Iran don't like this film any more because streams every year.

The best historical and religious series in the world, in which there are no flaws. This series is very technical in terms of directing, writing, acting and filming. I, the workers of Faraj Allah, praise and bow to him. The acting of Mahmoud Pak Nit and Jafar Dehghan is really amazing, Mustafa Zamani has appeared as the first good acting experience. Ketayoun Riahi, Abbas Amiri Moghadam, Jahanbakhsh Soltani and Rahim Nurzai are among the other actors of this movie, all of whom appeared well in their roles and were able to make the series better. The soundtrack is one of the positive points of the series, and it was able to take us deep into the story. Filming and editing are well formed and the director is successful in creating emotional, emotional and historical scenes.
In the whole series, Youssef the Prophet is a masterpiece by Farajullah Selahshur, who takes us inside his beautiful and attractive story and moves along with us, and shows the story of the jealousy of Yusuf's brothers, his journey as a slave to Egypt and his becoming a minister. Give us, which in this journey confronts us with emotional, emotional, historical, moral and educational scenes.
My score to this series = 10/10.
