Black and white all the time
fosterswens28 February 2023
I like watching the show, because it shows me what NOT to do. Every house they renovate gets black and white design. Not every house looks good with that. In addition, there are some very wild designs incorporated in some of the houses. So far, I don't like anything they have done. One of the houses they did, they put light colored wooden shutters and "pergolas" above the garage doors. These don't go well with the colors (black and white, of course) they painted the house. I know the homeowners come in and look very happy with the renovations, but is that really true, or are they just doing that for the show.

No Experience Required
DarbyM19017 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this show with no pre-existing opinions of the female host. I was not aware of of her prior reality show. My review is strictly based on this show and their home makeover skills.

The hosts of this show don't have much chemistry on screen and they are not fun to watch. The male host is either the silent partner or "yes" man.

It does not appear either host has any real professional experience. It seems like they just throw a hodgepodge of trends together, some of which are surprisingly outdated. There is no cohesion or clear style. The designs are not attractive.

In one episode they converted a dining room into a mud room off of the front door. It looked so out of place. If entries are the first impression of your home, what does a mud room say about the owners? This is the work of amateurs.

There are plenty of decent design shows with hosts that have real talent and are enjoyable to watch. This show just can't compare to them.

From one designer to another
katielilly22 February 2023
I started watching this after my dad was telling me how much he enjoyed it. I absolutely love it! I don't understand all the negative reviews!

Chelsea and Cole are good hosts and I feel this is a different take on an HGTV show.

It is a younger generation of designers, builders and sometimes clients. As a younger designer myself I find it refreshing and relatable. Her styles may not be everyone's cup of tea but that's okay! The only thing that matters is that the client likes it.

Yes she may not be a studied designer but you don't have to be. It doesn't make her any less good at what she does.

The formatting of the show is very interesting in that it doesn't spend 10 minutes on demo like most shows on tv right now (which if you like to watch all the demo, this may not be your show). It follows a social media format which is different and honestly what it's like working as a new designer now a days (in my experience).

I'm glad this was renewed for a second season. Also the negative comments about her being from Teen Mom are ridiculous. That doesn't make her any less talented or worthy of having this opportunity.

Overall I enjoy the show and think it has room to grow but I hope it doesn't change its overall formatting and that they continue to stay true to themselves as designers and people!

I agree so so bad
garlands-9254914 February 2023
They are redoing a craftsman house and took out the classic dining room dividers. And they put LVP in the house neither are great design choices. Between this show and Christina in the Country I am sad about the direction of HGTV.

Everything they do they say is cool and awesome but no real information about why things are designed and chosen.

The show is just not what you expect when you want to watch how and why items are chosen.

Nate and Jeramiah are an excellent example of good design tv.

They seem like a nice couple. The show follows reruns of Fixer Upper but are certainly not the same as the Gaines.

Supports South Dakota & Just Getting Started!

Great show! They do awesome work and my wife loves the style they have. The banter that Chelsea and Cole have is real Midwest! "How you doing? Good... everyone says good haha"

The house they transformed for the owners of The Factory was incredible!! They didn't just smash every wall down. Most people would never have seen the potential in that house!!

I don't get the bad reviews of then having no experience. The show is shot well with high quality, they are good on camera and each house is unique with its own set of problems.

It's a renovation show that isn't dry and boring! Cole reminds me of me trying new things all the time like his ASMR side hustle and when he creates things in the family home - people would think the same of me - no way does that guy know how to do home projects.

Also, It's fun to see the family incorporated into the show. The surprises Cole and Chelsea throw for people is very comical! It's amazing to see the client's response. I love how they stick to their community and invite people to the farm.

Some things can be cleaned up, but it's a brand new show and they are just getting started!

It's a fun show!

Why HGTV? Why?
therusticapothecary24 February 2023
Can we please bring back shows that have actual designers and not influencers? I'm well aware she was on a ridiculous show on MTV and then turned influencer on Instagram, but really HGTV? You give them a show? This is Insta Deigners and you can tell. I'm a Sioux Falls woman and was excited our city would be the backdrop but oh my goodness. Out of all the incredible interior designers here, this is who you chose? They destroyed a historical Craftsman, black and white are the only colors she knows and why in the world do they speak to one another like that? We have lost touch with what's real with content creators and influencers. I'm disappointed in HGTV.

Love these two and their modern style!
vraymond-500267 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was really sad to see this only had 6 episodes for it's first season, but happy to see Season 2 is coming early next year!!!!!!! I love Chelsea and Cole - not only do I enjoy their style, I enjoy them. I loved how they brought in family members onto their show and their talents too. It is just a fun show that blocks out the outside noise - which I think everyone can agree, we all need fun in our lives. I love how they gave each customer the " WOW!!" factor and also how they listened to each customer. I highly recommend this show if you're looking for a clean, modern, bold, 21st century show - this is your show 🙂🙂

Black...really?????
bke-4202021 February 2023
I HATE this show.... Chelsea sees no other color than black. There is always a majority that has to be black, whether the client wants it or not. She does not like to listen to the client. I dare you to do an episode with no black anything. Yes, she was one of the "Teen Moms" doesn't make her a designer. And the husband, super nice guy, but whipped. He agrees with everything, never a challenge to her choices. She is not all that. Yes, I have watched the show and in the intro, there is no info about how she is now deserving of a show....just a social media of building her mega house with apparently rich hubby, does not make designer.

Bad. Really, really bad.
catsmeow-127 February 2023
This is a cheap knock off of Fixer Upper. It's obvious that the DeBoers are Chip and Joanna Gaines wanna-be's. They are both dull and painful to watch, particularly the wife. She comes across as the Kim Kardashian of home renovating. She's annoying in the extreme and often sounds and behaves like a teenager. The husband is barely noticeable and half the time I forget he's even there.

Her "design style," for lack of a better term, is absolutely awful. It's amateurish, uninspired and atrocious. This couple has no real talent at all for or experience or training in this field, and it's glaringly obvious. They and the show could not be worse. Hoping that HGTV pulls the plug on this mess and replaces it with a show with others who have real talent and experience in the field, and that is worth one's time.

Loveee!!
clairesanford5 March 2023
I love this show. I absolutely love Chelsea's style. I grew up watching her on Teen Mom 2, so I was pumped for this new series. Chelsea has always had amazing style whether it's fashion or design. Her and Cole's relationship adds a cute touch to this series. They are couple goals. Seeing how far Chelsea has come since season 1 of Teen Mom 2 is so incredibly inspiring. She deserves every bit of success she has gotten. I'm not sure why there's so many 1 star reviews on this website. If you don't enjoy her style, just change the channel! I'm so happy this series was renewed and I cannot wait for season two.

What is Chelsea doing?
brittanidilorenzo9 February 2023
There is something wrong with how this is done, IMO. I have watched a lot of shows for renovation and majority of not all of them have an actual design plan. They don't just do things and decide what to do as they go. Like the episode where Chelsea decided to make the fireplace a two-way, the renovations had already started and she just came up with a thought and did it. Each house she does, there is never any solid plan, it feels like it's thrown together as it goes. Most designers have a blue print or something alike of the space and what they're doing to it. And a mood board for colours, textures, flooring, hardware, etc.

Queen of Monochrome
GNickL28 February 2023
Chelsea has never met a color she liked. Her black and white obsession wears thin very quickly. Design trends are finally moving away from grey and white to feature some color and this unqualified woman is sticking with the only design trend she knows.

Unfortunately HGTV feels constantly compelled to create shows with couples, most of whom have little to no chemistry and not much more in the way of qualifications. Chelsea has a middling personality, while her husband must be one of the dullest creatures ever to be put on TV.

Joanna Gaines is rather one-note, but compared to Chelsea, Joanna is a real 57 varieties. But that gives Joanna too much credit. She's also used every idea she'll ever have.

The producers should hire some designers to take control of this show, but then Chelsea and whats-his-name would just be hosts and they don't have the appeal to host a elementary school awards show.

Initial reaction to this show looks pretty uniform...the show sucks. So why didn't HGTV preview the first episodes and shipcan this series before it ever saw the light if day.

Yikes! Please get something original HGTV
sarahboulayscott30 May 2023
Repetitive, dull, painful at times... feel badly if these people actually had to pay for these renovations. Some of the home owners just look like they are being polite. She needs more education or should work with someone to teach her how to help create what the clients are looking for. Nothing original about the show, many of her mistakes will be expensive and difficult to change. Please find someone with personality & knowledge to make the transformation impressive. This couple does not have the chemistry like Tarek & Christina nor Chip and Joanna, they got to have that to keep the an audience interested.

Peeew!
rawlingspm7 March 2023
This is a terrible terrible show. It's clear she has no sense of color choice or style. She prefers black and incorporates that in every design regardless of the client's preference. The lack luster response of every client proves it. Not to mention, her voice. It's like nails on a chalkboard. She was a popular girl on Teen Mom, however, it take more than that to be successful in interior design. She should've taken some college courses. I'm sure the other hosts have. The only good part is seeing her children with the animals. Commercials are more amusing. THGTV needs to immediately pull the plug.

So annoying
skrueding31 January 2024
The female host is annoying and has no taste or skill. The male host is boring. Do they have any training or did they copy other designer's ideas or find everything on social media?

They ruined a historic craftsman and every other house they touched. HGTV has to be able to find better hosts who are actual designers.

My review requires additional characters but the show is so terrible, i don't really want to waste anymore time writing this! But since I need more characters, I will add that the female host has very poor fashion choices. Obviously her poor taste goes beyond home remodeling.

Awful, just awful!

Creative designing and non stop talking
carolarugg3 November 2023
Does Chelsea ever get a sore throat from nonstop talking? Her poor husband is cut off when he tries to interject a single thought and there is no other conversation on the show. She's clever but I can't watch the series anymore. She reminds me of Allison on Windy City (aptly named); it's all "I I I Me Me Me." Let the contractor provide input, allow hubby to chat bc he's very talented in his own right. To those who complain that she overly uses black, it's her style. People who like that style would hire her. She tries to honor the clients' preferences while injecting her strong personality. But the blah blah blah is very annoying. Dear Lord!

Black Every Episode
terrychimming5 June 2023
Painting everything black seems to be the only solution and the only idea that she has to create a modern look. The designs aren't awful but the creativity is amateur and lacking. I guess clients go to her for a certain look but the creativity is the same thing..

The overuse of black really irks me...not creative at all...

Nothing is wrong with being an influencer. The issue is that she needs to step up the ideas and figure out alll the different ways that modern design can be achieved. Everything looks like her home.

And again, the go to black paint 😖

Hopefully the next season is better.....

Humorous
lsmarx10 April 2024
I love watching this when I'm feeling down. Makes me laugh. I'm going to have a party where all my friends take a shot when she says GLAM. It's nice that she likes animals.

I do wish HGTV would invest in shows that have real designers and craftsman and artists. I suppose shows like DHF have a certain appeal to some people that are trying to go for more style than what they are coming from. It seems like everyone would want to have an elevated style though. Chelsea's designs seem very hodgepodge. I also would never not want to be involved my project. I bet many of these homeowners are happy at first then.

Down Home Drab...
witqueen23 March 2024
Would be a more fitting name for this POS show. No talent and no vision outside of black as her go to color choice. When there are so many good design shows on HGTV, this doesn't even compare to all the others that do have talent and crews that are enjoyable to watch. I understand that HGTV is trying to reach a broader audience, but maybe someone from the network, can read honest reviews here, and see just what a failure she is. Don't look for an influencer and think that their followers will transfer over. If you want new shows, maybe look online for new designers and examine their work and build a new show around them.

Cancel this show already HGTV.
