One of the Worst "Judi" Episodes So Far
jethrojohn28 July 2022
I only recently started watching The Great North, and so far, I am really enjoying it. The characters play off each other well and some of the storylines are genuinely sweet and heartwarming.

However, I've learned that any episode that focuses on Judi isn't for me.

Judi is by far the worst character on the show. Yes she's got some great traits, like being confident, smart, and creative, but her selfishness and refusal to acknowledge anything that takes place out of her head is greatly toxic.

In one of the other Judi episodes, we saw her ignore her already shy gay brother Ham's efforts to hit on a guy because she wanted the guy for herself. Yes, she sort of made up for it in the end, but her character hasn't really grown at all since.

This episode sees Judi selfishly wanting to hog the spotlight once more, thinking she deserves to be lead in the school play (like she has been every year) so that she can rekindle a romance with a dude she kissed once who now has a girlfriend he seems happy with.

It's as painful as it sounds, and Judi doesn't grow much at all, since in the next episode her first lines are, once more, all about herself.

For her to work, she needs to grow and tone down her narcissistic tendencies. Honey Bee is a better character and role model - an unflinchingly self-confident women who understands that winning personal victories for yourself isn't all that matters (her actions when she was in the mall booth contest prove that).

I realise Judi's flaws are there to allow for conflict and growth, but to see her ignore the happiness of all others - and at times, actively try to ruin the lives of others, whether inadvertently or not - is just not nice to watch.

I sincerely hope the writers help her grow a little more, otherwise I'll just skip all episodes that have anything to do with her and focus on every other lovely character here.
