Two Journeys
PodsyTheBear15 August 2023
Beautifully shot, but also beautifully imagined.

There's a clear storyline here, and it's presented to us in the first five minutes: Sophie's journey to or from other human beings.

Sophie clearly feels trapped by expectations and by life, by human beings.

As we follow Sophie's escape through the stunning Arctic scenery with all its capriciousness, we also follow her interractions with those she meets and those from home through phonecalls. Will she reach her physical destination? Will she also reach a spot in her life where she can safely and happily connect with frinds and family?

A beautful film.

Beautiful Journey.

I sincerely enjoyed this movie. It was beautiful and also relatable. The beginning visual and the peaceful sound of moving water had me in from the get go. The scenery was so lovely and the feels were all there. I honestly had to remind myself, several times that I was not watching a documentary, it felt so true. Thank you for making this film. That being said... I would like to add that access finding and getting the film was complicated. Also, I watched and I have a friend who also watched separately from me, and we both had to deal with a CONSTANT buffering issue. I am certain it was not our Wi-Fi. Would watch again if not for this....

Lacks a storyline

Warning: Spoilers
This is truly a beautiful film to watch because of the stunning landscapes, but i really missed a storyline. Sophie is a woman who can't deal with the normal life she has, so the hike seems like an escape for her. She wants to do everything alone but is very unprepared and doesn't plan ahead. She discovers she needs people during the hike, I guess. But what does she do when she finishes the hike? Does she go home or somewhere else? Even if the movie would show this, there still would be something missing in my opinion. It is just a lot of hiking. I follow YouTubers who walked the same route and their vlogs had more of a storyline than this film. I still give it a 6/10 because the scenery and images are beautiful.

Watched it twice, will probably watch again

The fact that the main character actually hikes the full distance during the making of this film adds to the overall feel while watching the movie. The storyline seems simple enough: hiking from the North Cape to Finland. However, the personal story of the main character travels the same distance. This, combined with the stunning landscapes of Norway, the ever changing weather and the challenges along the way make this movie one of my personal favorites. The fact that I'm I hiker myself definitely adds to this.

Anyway, go watch this movie and see how each of us perceive reality differently, which may be even more apparent when walking in the wilderness.

Watched the movie twice now, and will again

An amazing movie. It really shows the beauty of the surroundings and makes you want to go there as well. It's great how a movie with only approximately 5-10 real conversations can make you feel so much for the main character.

Amazing hike in Norway

Watching this movie is almost like being there and do the hike by myself. I love the surroundings! Such a beautiful nature and it is a great job the actrice did, because she is almost the only figure in the movie, but it is never bored. Watch this movie and you will be there! 👍

For nature lovers and hikers

Beautiful film, beautiful scenery, really capturing the reality of hiking on your own. The silence, the routine of setting up camp and breaking it down, the happiness of finding a hut with the luxury of a real bed and a roof, the physical exhaustion, the nuisances of rain and cold, and the realisation of risk when you get lost. Although I was wondering why the main character never seems to read. When I hike on my own, books (e-books, audio-books) are my company.

Don't forget to watch the 'making of' series, which shows you so much more detail and insight onto the whole process of filming and how the crew lived the experience of hiking.

Warning: Spoilers
No screenplay, bad actress.

Nor the actress, nor the storyteller seem to have ever hiked anything.

The amount of big mistakes that the character does will make you do exactly the opposite than the (pretended) phrase of the film: "the film that will take you on the trail". Hahaha! As you see her suffering because of her bad planning and ill execution, you will think that hiking is not good.

She runs out of gas, out of food, out of batterries .... where is your brain lady?

She turns on the gas stove on top of the bed (when she has a beautiful table near) ... are you planning to burn the hut?

She listens a noise in the night adn runs away from the hut? Really?

I think this movie is disrespectful for people that take hiking seriously, and enjoy life in the outdoors.

She notices that the battery pack is not there and leaves her pack in the middle of the night? Really??

And so forth ....

Lacking substance
marcusfort-8984512 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Having you as the viewer create the story for themselves does not turn a film into an art piece.

In the first 5 to 10 mins you are given the overall plot. Then the rest is left to you the viewer to fill in. Leaving the poor actress to carry the rest of the film and flesh out more of the story and character, which is impossible because there is no story arch or character development to speak of.

Imagine going to a restaurant, the chef giving you the ingredients and then asking you if you liked your meal at the end of the evening.

For those who are avid hikers and enjoy beautiful scenery then this is for you, however if you want a story then don't waste your time.

Lacking music

Warning: Spoilers
"I know it was probably done intentionally this way to allow you to accompany the protagonist on her solo journey through these magnificent landscapes... and thus, the sound of water, the wind, the storm, the eternal silences. The very long scenes (so long!! Like the one in the dark while she's searching for the power bank) without a single word. In my personal opinion, I believe the movie would have benefited from having a soundtrack (even with well-known songs and paying for the rights, I don't mean hiring a composer), especially in the scenes of eternal silence and particularly in the scenes where Sophie is hiking in these landscapes...

The film struggles a bit and becomes somewhat boring in many scenes.

On the other hand, it's a very human film, portraying mistakes (many basic hiking preparation and experience mistakes, as mentioned by someone), and conveying emotions without saying them.

Too bad! Rating: 5/10!
