After lengthy negotiations, Fox has given a six-episode order to single-camera comedy Weird Loners, from writer Michael Weithorn, who wrote the project on spec and sold it to Fox. It was then laid off at 20th TV, with studio-based director-producer Jake Kasdan coming on board to executive produce alongside Weithorn. Weird Loners is the story of four relationship-phobic people who are unexpectedly thrust into one another’s lives and form an unlikely bond in a townhouse in Queens, NY. Additionally, Fox has given pilot orders to comedies Dead Boss and Sober Companion, both geared toward series. Single-camera Dead Boss, which had a put pilot commitment, hails from Warner Bros TV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. An adaptation of the BBC3 series created by Sharon Horgan and Holly Walsh and starring Horgan, Dead Boss was written by Patricia Breen (Suburgatory). It is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens...

Fox is to shoot a Us remake of BBC Three comedy Dead Boss.
The UK original starred Sharon Horgan and aired six episodes in June and July 2012.
Fox's version - which again follows a woman falsely convicted and imprisoned for killing her boss - will be written by Suburgatory's Patricia Breen, Deadline reports.
Horgan will executive produce the Us version alongside Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment.
Horgan and Kaplan previously developed a Us remake of the former's other BBC Three comedy Pulling and also worked on two original comedy projects - Bad Mom and Bad Management.
Fox has given Dead Boss a put-pilot commitment, meaning that the network will have to pay a fee if it does not air the episode - increasing the likelihood of a series pick-up.

ABC Studios is producing. This marks the fifth broadcast pilot for Kaplan this year and the second for Irish actress-writer Horgan, who also co-produces with Kaplan ABC’s version of Pulling. Exclusive: ABC has bought Pulling, a single-camera comedy based on the praised 2006 British series. Bad Teachers scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will write the adaptation, produced by ABC Studios and Kapital Entertainment, which has received a script commitment with penalty. Sharon Horgan and Dennis Kelly, creators of the original series, will executive produce with Eisenberg and Stupnitsky. Pulling revolves around three single thirtysomething women, one of them played in the original by Horgan, who live together after one breaks off her engagement the day before her wedding. ABC first took a stab at developing an U.S. version of Pulling during the 2008-09 season with Rob Hanning as writer, Stacy Traub as showrunner and Francie Calfo as executive producer. Kaplan, then an agent at Wma, sold the format to ABC, which picked up the project to pilot but not to series. Horgan and Kelly served as exec producers on the first ABC incarnation,...

Frances Conroy nearly wasn't a part of American Horror Story. The four-time Emmy nominee -- for playing Ruth Fisher, the put-upon owner of a mortuary on HBO's long-running Six Feet Under -- was working on Bad Mom, an ABC comedy pilot with Jenna Elfman that everyone thought would get picked up to series. After the network passed, the 58-year-old actress wound up auditioning for the FX anthology, where, ironically, she'd play the elder version of Moira O'Hara, a ghost trapped in a haunted Los Angeles mansion. With her fifth Emmy nom, she faces off against the likes of fellow supporting

Cougar Town co-executive producers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein have signed their first overall deal, a two-year pact with the series' producer ABC Studios. Under the deal, the two will continue to work on Bill Lawrence's comedy series starring Courteney Cox, which was given an early renewal in January. Additionally the duo will develop new projects. This season, they wrote the script Besties for ABC Studios and the Mark Gordon Co, which was in serious contention for a pilot pickup at ABC. ICM-repped Pietrosh and Goldstein's previous series credits include My Name Is Earl and ABC's Big Day. The network's solid comedy series The Middle hails from Wbtv-based creators/showrunners Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline. And ABC Studios this spring signed a rich overall deal with the...
