This movie really had great pacing. It was in constant motion. The dance club scenes were amazing as was all the choreography. Both brothers turned in great acting performances. I thought Derek Hough as Donny was not only a strong dancer, immensely talented but a handsome romantic lead. I believed the love story between Donny and Aya. She was charming. The multi cultural cast was interesting and the tapping especially was a treat. The chemistry between Donny and Aya is hot. Their 2 romantic dance scenes sizzled. I've never seen a man dance out of his shirt to reveal a chiseled body. It was very sexy and viral, how he moved with such passion and grace. I liked it so much I saw it twice. I highly recommend it.
I am rather disappointed. I knew before watching that it's going to be a cheesy romeo and juliet plot but i expected there to be at least some sparkle. Unfortunately... The movie is made up of loads of indoor scenes which are not NY at all, plus couple aerial views of the bridges and a shot where Derek in the Borough Hall/Court Street area. Okay, the dance moves were fun and cool from time to time but not new or brilliant, with the production team and actors that the movie had, I expected much more. Derek Hough and BoA are both cute, but no they cannot act. They just do not have that sense of presence, at least not in this movie. BoA obviously is not a native English speaker, which fits her role, but she tries too hard to be effortless and smooth, and that makes her lines mono-toned. U-know's guest appearance totally disappointed me as well, that act could never be a headline in any club and definitely not up to standards of a dance movie. In real life, I doubt any club owner would fly such dancer all the way from Korea. That suit vest thing showing his chubby arms are making the scene even worse. Last but not the least, that pony-tail guy totally reminded me of Maria in the film "Din Tao:Leader of the Parade"... I'm not giving the movie a one -star just because it was fun running into the crew in W Hotel two years ago...
I love dance movies, like I really love them. So of course I watched this one too. The dancing parts were okayish... Derek and BoA are really good dancers, no question about that. And I loved the drum-parts... that was something new. And also the OST was pretty good. But there was no chemistry between Derek and BoA, the couple-dances looked way to choreographed...like dances from "dancing with the stars"... Derek should do that and nothing else. And two times they even copied from Dirty Dancing...and that's a no-go! So that's a dance movie that doesn't make it to my "watch again" list and that's a bad rating for me!
Before watching this movie, I expected nothing but dances, it did not disappoint me. We all know what BoA and Derek Dough can do. It makes you wonder what chemistry an Asian pop star can make with a ballroom dancing master.
This movie has given modern dances a new definition. It is not an era with just hip hop dances anymore. It shows you tap dances and dances with drums(Cobu) could be the next "hit thing" as well.
Let's be frank though, the story is weak, like I expected. Characters have minimal interactions, I almost couldn't feel the relationship between them. If you are looking for a movie with a well organized flow of story line, sorry you can probably skip this title.
It really depends on which perspective you use to view a movie, to decide whether or not it's worth your time. I watched this movie entirely for the chronography, and of course, BoA and Derek Dough. If that's something you are looking for as well? Go for it.

Let me start by saying this that I had never heard about this movie before and it was pure coincidental and through the divine intervention of internet browsing that I bumped into it. Followed by watching the trailer and impressed by the dance moves shown, I decided to watch the movie "make your move" or in words "Romeo and Juliet in step up"
Those who loved step up, street dance and all other dance movies would surely love this because, yes the movie has a lot of dance moves that will make your jaw drop but is that enough to make you watch the movie .hmmm totally depends on your patience level
The movie story is totally romeo and Juliet (if you have missed my hints in the above two paragraphs) having kids from two rivaling clans falling for each other and surviving through the hatreds and rivalry but sadly the movie does not explore much on the romance quotient which I guess is acceptable considering that this is in whole a dance movie.
The good points is definitely the music and dance routines and having professional dancer (Derek hough) and musician (BOA) for lead characters do actually make it better but can they pull off a story other than dance routines .sadly ..for me no..
There is no plot to the movie per say and whatever story is there kind off runs like a marathon and too fast for you to actually cope up the movie pretty much follows a strict regime which is 5 min story 15 min dance routine and this follows throughout the movie but nevertheless I loved it for being a sweet chick flick and most of all for the dance routines. Its fine unless you are expecting a through and through entertainer
The movie has no plot and whatever plot is actually taken from the usual Disney movies and threaded together to narrate an obvious story. You will predict everything from the moment the titles starts showing up but the movie has some real good dance sequences that kind of is worth the pain
