- Chuck's leadership skills are tested when someone is found murdered in Castle. Ellie picks up a hobby that worries Awesome, and Morgan is stuck in the middle when the Buy Morons take on the neighboring Large Mart.
- Sure enough, Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) was a bit groggy from being sleep-deprived. (You didn't really think she got Intersected, did you?) She has been working day and night on her father's laptop discovering her father's work in getting the pathways in the brain to reorganize themselves, much to the concern of Devon (Ryan McPartlin), who wonders how she got the laptop back in the first place. He calls Chuck (Zachary Levi) to tell him some woman dropped it off from the Buy More when she received it by mistake. Chuck confronts Jane Bentley (Robin Givens) about it, and she doesn't deny it, nor does she sugarcoat she fully expects Chuck to completely screw up his new mission of picking someone who could handle the Intersect. But Beckman (Bonita Friedericy) put Chuck in charge of the group. Morgan (Joshua Gomez) congratulates him and hopes it goes better than when Chuck led a team on a D&D adventure, and... Anyway, Chuck found four viable candidates.
CASEY: Good Lord. Four more Chucks?
Candidate #1, Lewis, tech op specialist, his Warcraft group took down Deathwing (a world first), and he had a British accent. Candidate #2, Josie, PsyOps specialist, expert in interrogation. Candidate #3, Damian, Navy Seal and expert marksman, and because of his appearance makes everybody run screaming because he looks like the prototypical Arab terrorist. (Damn profiling.) The CIA basically had him infiltrate every terrorist cell until he got tired of it. Candidate #4, Brody, nerdy, emotional, into his family and friends. He met with Sarah's (Yvonne Strahovski) approval, to say the least. After putting them through a battery of physical tests, psychological tests, and a pop culture test...run by Morgan, natch...Chuck had a winner. He texted Brody the good news, and Brody celebrated...for about three seconds. Brody encountered someone installing a device in Castle, who shoved a knife through his heart.
At the BM, it's the Big BM for BM! Basically, Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence) dressed in a costume with a large BM on it (the letters, you sickos!), and was ready to hand out flyers for their LED TV sale. They had to get ahead of Large Mart, who had been outpacing their sales. (apparently a CIA substation cares about these things) Big Mike gets two steps out the door when goons from the Large Mart throw him into a waiting van. This was payback for Jeff (Scott Krinsky) and Lester (Vik Sahay) stealing Large Mart's mascot: Kevin Bacon. (Not the actor, although given his financial situation after Bernie Madoff screwed him, I can understand why you might think that.) Kevin Bacon is a cute little pig who has helped the Large Mart beat the Buy More. Morgan is up in arms because Jeffster broke the uneasy truce the two stores had for almost two years to not play pranks on each other. Morgan arranges a meeting with the Large Mart crew to handle the exchange of hostages. Morgan wants proof of life, but Morgan's #2 (yes, plenty of potty humor in this episode), doesn't want to come back. Large Mart's hostage takers are treating him well; they even got him lunch from Quizno's. (just seeing if you were paying attention) Morgan takes them to Kevin Bacon anyway, and the pig disappeared.
In Castle, Chuck is livid with Bentley for giving Ellie the laptop and doesn't care if she thinks he'll screw things up. He is confident in his choice...and slips on Brody's blood in the hallway. Chuck and Bentley discover the body and Chuck immediately calls for a lockdown. Sure enough, everybody starts accusing everybody else. Chuck defends both Sarah and Casey (Adam Baldwin) as not capable of committing the crime, leaving Bentley, Lewis, Josie, and Damian as the suspects. Everybody turns to Damian, who is beside himself for getting profiled for the millionth time. He goes to leave, despite Chuck trying to stop him and tell him that's not what they're doing. Only Damian opens the door where the device was planted by the murderer, exploding and badly injuring him. It also knocks the power out in the facility, including surveillance and computers. They are trapped inside. Sarah tells Chuck he has to act like he has everything under control, but Chuck wants Casey to take charge. It wouldn't work since he led the team last time who almost nuked Los Angeles, and Chuck had been in charge for a week already. Bentley denied being involved, Josie tried to cry her way through it...which Chuck bought but Sarah didn't...Damian told Chuck the reason there was sand in his bag was not to fool the x-ray equipment but he is sent everyplace where there was sand (including a broken boom box in his backpack), and Lewis had a knife from an IRA bomb maker because he killed an IRA bomb maker.
Ellie gets home and figured out why Stephen left her that computer: because he was trying to figure out how to implant knowledge directly into the human brain faster than any study method currently available. Ellie was becoming more and more obsessed with working on the project, but Devon had already taken Chuck's advice and swapped out the hard drive on the computer.
Chuck and Sarah were no closer to finding the killer after interrogating the four suspects, but one of them was definitely the killer, if the bomb underneath the interrogation chair was any indication. Chuck and Sarah barely escape, but the bomb blast could be felt all the way upstairs in the Buy More. Damian got another piece of shrapnel in him for his efforts, and bomb maker Lewis, the last person to sit in the chair and was currently nowhere to be found, had become the prime suspect.
CHUCK: Seriously? He was my second choice!
Everybody splits up. Bentley finally gives Chuck some good advice: a leader shouldn't waste his time trying to get people to like him as Chuck was doing. Sarah had to deal with Josie's breakup with her boyfriend, who said she was too emotional. (Apparently the crying earlier was legitimate.) They then hear someone crawling through the airducts. Casey thinks it's Lewis, so he pulls his shotgun on...Kevin Bacon. The pig even grunts in approval of Casey's grunt. How did Kevin Bacon get in the vents? That's what Jeff was confessing to Morgan at that very moment.
JEFF: If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, you can eat it.
LESTER: He lives by a strange philosophy of karma and diet. But it works for him.
Bentley has grown tired of Chuck and goes to the Intersect room in Castle over Chuck's protests. Chuck sees the video footage Bentley had of Ellie working on the laptop and went ballistic. Bentley was ready to give him both barrels, only to find Lewis hanging from the rafters. Lewis' throat was cut.
Now they were down to Josie and Bentley, who also knew that and pointed their guns at each other. Casey and Sarah come in to break it up, and Josie and Bentley turn their guns on them, thinking they could still be suspects. It's up to Chuck now. Chuck reviews everything he saw in his mind and figured it out. Chuck figured out why she Josie was so emotional; he found the pregnancy stick in her bag. The suspicion falls to Bentley, except Bentley had every opportunity to kill Chuck and never did it. Damian was the killer. Brody caught him planting the expolosives, and the bomb under the chair was meant to implicate Lewis, only Chuck and Bentley found his body. But the question was, who was Damian was working for. , Damian activated his boom box, which was really a bomb. Damian was here for Chuck. Bentley shoots Damian, but the bomb was armed. There wasn't enough time for Chuck to disarm it, so Bentley grabs the bomb and manually locks herself in the Intersect room to contain the blast. ("That's what leaders do, Chuck.") Unless leaders can figure out how to hotwire the steel door. Chuck pulls her out in time. The blast goes through the corridors, knocking Kevin Bacon into Chuck's arms.
Beckman congratulates the team for saving Castle. Due to the security risk, however, Chuck was to remain the only Intersect. Bentley heads back to Washington, but she advises Chuck he may wish to let her sister study the laptop. And Big Mike returned to the Buy More. Apparently, he wasn't going to play hostage past his shift time. Although the BM costume didn't survive (there was a flaming BM outside the store), Big Mike thought they could just make another BM.
Back at home, Chuck gets the hard drive from Awesome, but neither of them look too convinced they did the right thing. Ellie wanted to reconnect with her father. Except Awesome didn't give him the hard drive. He continued to let Ellie work on the computer and she didn't want Chuck to worry. Chuck talks to Sarah and Casey, whom Chuck thanks for backing him up in Castle.
CHUCK: The Intersect is all of us, it's the three of us working together. That's why it works.
CASEY: Don't ever forget that.
Beckman interrupts them to report Damian was paid $10 million to bomb Castle, not capture Chuck. The money came from Vivian Volkoff.
CHUCK: I'm someone's nemesis?
CASEY: For real this time.
And Orion's computer, after scanning the room where Ellie was sleeping, decided to download some new files...for Agent X. Ellie Bartowski.
