Almost can't stand it
kristygoodrich23 March 2023
The stories are good. Not repeats off other shows as true crime shows often have. As someone who has watched every true crime show on every streaming network, I am glad to find another one. However, the legal expert, Benji Greenberg has such pronounced vocal fry (fake millennial Kardashian accent) that it's incredibly irritating every time she speaks. I can barely stand it. Beyond that, the shows decent enough. The actors seem realistic enough. T h e constant recaps kind of drag things out and it can be a little slow but that's ok. I like the show except for Greenberg's Kardashian imitation. I wish she'd stop.

Benji nasal voice
marthome231 June 2023
The show is good. However, I can't stand Benji Greenberg's nasal voice. Her unnecessary comments & voice make it very difficult to tolerate. My mother taught me to speak from the diaphragm. Nasal speech is a form of childhood whining. The show is good. However, I can't stand Benji Greenberg's nasal voice. Her unnecessary comments & voice make it very difficult to tolerate. I didn't need to use a lot of words.

Would you like crime with that fry?
thegreenblade6 April 2023
The one positive about this series is that they present interesting cases. Other than that, the show is not good. (1) It is very, very slow and extremely repetitive - they repeat the same points over and over again. (2) The information presented is not always accurate. For example, in one episode they show a person using a hammer to commit a murder, and repeat this "fact" over and over again. However, upon checking the case court records, I found that there was no hammer used - it was a pipe. I think they put the hammer in for effect, which is lame. Nobody wants to have to check facts when watching a true crime series. (3) The reenactments are also very poor (bad direction, bad "actors", bad in general). And, last but not least: Benji Greenberg (the legal expert) and her voice/manner of speaking have to go. Her vocal fry is so annoying that it absolutely ruins anything positive about the show. I found myself dreading her appearance in each of the episodes I watched (five in total). This is the reason I ultimately stopped watching the show. I would voluntarily listen to fingernails dragged over a chalkboard for a year straight before I listen to one more second of her voice. Think Donald Duck with structured vocal fry and you have hit the bullseye - yes, it is that bad.

Benji Greenberg and the mouth that wouldn't die
keytodestiny-0461418 October 2023
I can't stand this woman. Her voice is grating. She has that inflection at the end of her sentences where she seems to be asking questions and then sounds like she's putting off a little growl. She absolutely does not bring a thing to the show except extreme annoyance. And her mouth seems to have a life of its own, in fact, it seems that her mouth swallows her face! The show itself isn't bad but PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, pick better experts. As one other reviewer noted, Benji has a nasal voice, makes unnecessary comments and basically makes ME want to commit murder in the heartland. Please if this show renews (and I'm hoping it does), please omit Benji. If you've got to have a legal expert, please hire someone else. Do better vetting.

Don't waste your time.
mdsalesu24 March 2023
This might be the most poorly produced true crime show I've ever seen. It is slow, confusing, and the storytelling cannot easily be followed. It just doesn't flow and you are intentionally led in a misleading direction. I'm not sure if this is by design or not. The dramatizations are terrible, there is no sound except the narration, and the legal experts state the obvious like it's a a brand new concept no one thought of. The narration is stated in a monotone that is devoid of emotion and never makes an attempt to connect with the viewer. This show is very poorly executed. The ONLY credit this show gets is for the stories, they are great. In better hands this would be a real winner.

Frustrating, slow, intentionally illogical and deceptive storytelling
tommitchell-337466 March 2023
In a really misguided effort to dramatize these crimes this series moves at a contrived snails pace, and could easily have been a 1/2 hour show or even less, which honestly may have been pretty decent. But by the time it jerks the viewer around with misleading dramatizations, really poor actor portrayals, and intentionally confusing time and story lines which make little sense, I wasted 45 minutes of my life.

I thought episode one was relatively interesting but progressively worse after that. I had to constantly fast forward through the incredibly repetitive recaps, multiple times during the show. Finally bailing after Episode 10, it was the last straw.

The director couldn't find any other lawyer!?
Inshane200424 December 2023
I enjoy this series but they need to replace the female lawyer, Benji Greenberg. This woman's mouth and voice drive me crazy and I'm glad I'm not the only one! I fast forward it when she starts talking. Another thing that makes me nuts is the constant, repetitive music played throughout these shows. They also at times have 4 people saying the SAME EXACT THING, all in a row! Some of these 45 minute shows could be done in 20 minutes. The show, Paranormal Witness, has the psychic investigator repeating what the victim of the haunting literally JUST said! There's no need for this. Please stop it!!

So Off The Hook Wrong.
UltraMaximal11 August 2023
There are so many things wrong with this show it isn't funny. First the crimes are simplified and distilled to the point they actually repeat the plot of the episode 4 times in the same episode. Talk about lack of creative ability and decent writing. Also the two people I'm about to talk about add nothing intelligent to the show. They just expound simple common sense like "the police will gather evidence and put it in a bag." Or a "forensic specialist will conduct an autopsy to search of clues." NO!! Really!?

Then there are the two creepy women on the show. Benji is the most annoying irritating sounding individual since Fran Drescher. She is almost a cross of Fran Drescher and Rosanne. She just horrible in every single way.

Then there is Creepy Kim. Her face has been botoxed to death from her hairline to upper lip. Her entire face has no movement. Not her nose, eyebrows, cheeks or areas around her eyes. It is just stiff rubber. Then her annunciation goes beyond Canadian, it's just weird how "off" she is. Not only in looks but sound.

All of these thing's together make this more of a twilight zone experience than crime show. It's just a cheese fest of annoyance.

Errors and annoying music
mcmurraysharone2 March 2024
Stories are pretty interesting. Narrator has great voice but seems to wish to create suspense - but it doesn't work. Repetitive information and annoying music do not help. I agree the legal expert's nasal accent is "unique" to say the least. In Season 1 episode 8 - Summer Inman - in the initial introduction they say the town Logan is in Michigan. One minute later they say the town Logan is in Ohio. How can an editor miss that error? I have seen other inconsistencies but not as flagrant. I hope to get through all episodes. One good thing - at least I haven't noticed U. S. bashing which is the norm from many Canadians. Thank you!

Slow and a bare bones true crime series
Xavier_Stone5 August 2023
A low budget series with silent actors interacting with voice over narration. Perhaps this is done so they minimize the speaking parts, as actors with spoken lines automatically garner a higher pay rate.

The experts in the series are indeed lawyers, Benji from Canada, but are mostly just telling us the most obvious of details. A complete DNA profile match reveals the low odds of someone else being at the scene of the crime. Wow, what insight.

The narration is monotone and although there is a limited number of repeats it's designed for television so it's not as bad as other shows.

The few shows that I watched were generally just relaying the audience the facts and had zero follow up, leaving me with an abrupt ending. With so many true crime television and podcasts out there I think there still is room for quality. This one just doesn't hold up after a few shows and gets old fast.

new crimes; unwatchably slow reinactment
frieda-9236628 November 2023
This is like a dream where the events are being played out in slow motion. Even the narrator's voice is an agonizingly drawn out monotone. I checked to see if I could change the speed settings, but no. The choice of crimes is great -- I had not heard of any of the first three crime episodes, and I watch a lot of true crime. If the script, dialogue, acting and direction had been done well, I wouldn't stop at the third episode. I stopped at the third episode. A lot of the "action" is even filmed in slow motion and the same scenes shown multiple times in one episode. Maybe that was supposed to create suspense, but once was more than enough. Just. Plain. Stupid. Z-z-z-z-zzzzz.
