Naive and unrealistic plot

Warning: Spoilers
In this episode, drug researcher Dr. Ng is suspected in the attempted murder of Psychiatrist Jennifer Sullivan. Why? Because she is slowing the approval process of Ng's new psychedelic drug for use in psychiatry.

If the script writers knew more about the drug war, they would know that the approval process for any psychedelic drug is already going to be glacially slow, without the help of any nay-saying psychiatrist. The DEA has been fighting to shut down research on such drugs for over four decades, and they have yet to ease up significantly, even though the evidence from the last 60 years is that psychedelic therapy can do more to combat alcoholism and depression in one afternoon than the addictive drugs of Big Pharma can do in a lifetime.

Therefore it's quite amusing when Jake speculates that Dr. Sullivan is the only thing standing between Dr. Ng and "a truckload of cash." Alas, were that only the case! Then America might no longer be the most depressed (and addicted) country on earth, with 1 in 8 American males and 1 in 4 American females addicted to antidepressants - many of which are harder to quit than heroin (source: psychiatrist-author Julie Holland).
