30 seconds of siege, according to IMDb. They are shown in about 7 minutes of slow motion. That's right, the entire thing is in slomo. I immediately thought I was in for a yawn, yet that didn't happen; at least I was intrigued until the end. And maybe I would still be intrigued by now if I cared, for I couldn't tell you the story if I wanted to. I would have to mime it.
I suspect the movie to be a private joke between the director and the writer, one not supposed to be seen by the masses, and released by accident. You see, plot-wise, I don't know the who, what and why. Just the when, which is a bathroom... I mean, shower-time. This abstruse storyline is peppered all along with nonsensical details by the definitely incompetent writer. For example, the main story being "man with big knife attacks showering woman", said woman stops in the middle of the scrap to put on a dress. She is aware that the attack is being filmed and that the cameraman is going to pull back for a wider angle. She wants to keep the show family friendly, so that kids can concentrate more on the big knife and blood than on her wet skin. Why she didn't dry herself with a towel beforehand will remain a mystery. In the same vein, man with big knife never stabs unarmed women (new ones keep coming out of nowhere); man with big knife pulls back when slapped by little girl, bracing for the tremendous impact and closing his eyes before said impact; big knife almost stabs, but stops short for unknown reasons while woman steps forwards; and she bites him...
Anyway, apart from this disastrous script, let's now consider some disadvantages of the artistic choice of full slow motion. Your movie is de facto silent. You're going to read everything on faces and body motion. Well, let's just say that this particular cast wasn't up to the challenge. It's all pretty much an alternation of grins and blank stares.
To wrap up on a positive note, I'll just add that the photography is good, the rhythm is good (there are actually several scenes in this 30 seconds happening), and the music is well used.
Maybe, just maybe, I'll watch Endless at a faster frame rate to see how it fares.
