Max Protetch : As I got into the exhibition, first I began to realize that for the first time in American history the American public understood the symbolic, the political, the economic and social importance of architecture and that we had a very large audience, very concerned individuals, who, I think indirectly through the eyes of our adversaries began to understand how those buildings symbolized American power and economic and cultural dominance. And I thought we would have a very receptive audiences to trying to propose that the very best architecture becomes the memorial for the people who were slain.
