- GoofsBoone asks if the high levels of aluminum in the victim's tissue was from the bullets he was shot with, and Kai points out that bullets are almost always made from copper and lead. Boone has been in law enforcement his entire career, the training he had to become a police officer, and then a federal agent, and his job would make him familiar with the composition of bullets, not the kind of mistake he would make. Over 90% of bullets are indeed made from a lead core and a copper jacket, and certain types of armor piercing bullets are made with a steel core and either a tungsten or depleted uranium jacket. There are a few rare types of hunting ammo whose bullets have an aluminum tip, but these kind are rare and would not come close to leaving enough aluminum in a body to show up on a toxicology screen.

Sticking up for this show
I have to stick up for this show to counter all the other reviews. I've been watching since the beginning of the season and enjoy it every week. I fact it's one of the very few broadcast tv shows I still watch. OTOH, I did check out Part One of this show by watching the opening episode on the original NCIS for the first time in years. In contrast to Hawaii, it's gotten positively geriatric and sloooow. I much prefer the gorgeous scenery each week from Hawaii and the younger, more energetic cast. But to each their own. For those claiming they probably don't shoot in Hawaii, you obviously didn't even watch the first 5 minutes. Because they spend extensive time outdoors in every episode. And it's not like CBS hasn't been filming multiple shows on location there for years.
As for this particular episode, adding Wilmer V. To the mix did unfortunately create some awkward energy. It almost felt like he was on quaaludes or something. And why such an angry look all the time? It was actually a relief whenever they cut to a scene he wasn't in. Perhaps too much time on the other show rubbed off on him.
The other person from original NCIS, Jessica?, fit in better with the cast. Ernie was hilarious, in a cringey sort of way, calling her "M'lady" and bowing to her. The "T N T" backstory was too forced but still a little funny.
The show has really come together over the past season and is developing its own personality. I'm especially pleased Lucy's ex seems to be gone. They had so little chemistry, it was the opposite of chemistry. Being single really allows Lucy to shine more without that incredibly awkward storyline. Glad the coroner seems to be getting more time as well - I really like her. So happy the show is getting a second season!
