Another very good featurette from David Gregory and Blue Underground that was originally released on the DVD of Jess Franco's MARQUIS DE SADE'S JUSTINE. This is one case where the film in question is actually quite poor, long-winded and downright bland but this featurette almost makes you want to watch it again. Director Franco is interviewed as well as producer Harry Alan Towers. Franco discusses how he and Towers teamed up and then the director jumps right into the casting of Tyrone Powers daughter Romina who Franco feels ruined the film. It's rather funny hearing Franco rip her so bad as he makes her come across as quite an idiot. Franco mentions that Jack Palance was usually always drunk but a pleasure to work with. Franco and Towers opinion split on Klaus Kinski who plays de Sade in the film. Franco says he was a pleasure to work with but Towers mentioned that Kinski was quite upset when his name ended up being over the title even though he had very little to do in the actual film. Another fun story has Franco ranting about the Spanish censors and how various cuts of the film were released around the world including an AIP version in American, which was cut nearly thirty-minutes. There's even brief talk of Orson Welles being offered a part in the film.
