Enjoying this
cockezville9 October 2022
It is a difficult thing to do, a comic drama, but this show manages to do that with finesse and style. Marcia Gay Hardin and Skylar Astin as mother/son collaborators in crime work. I have never seen Marcia Gay do comedy and she does well. Skyler Astin is a hoot and so charismatic. They play off each other so well. The supporting cast all do their jobs well. When I heard that Geena Davis had left the project I was not expecting much as that often sparks trouble, but she is not missed in the show. I love the deadpan sister who appears in the show and the nasty co worker who assigns Skylar's character to a storage room for an office. The comedic aspect of the show is what drives it and makes it different from another procedural. Thursday night is a good spot. One of my favorites this season.

Unexpectedly Charming
shamblerbatman18 November 2022
I have to say that when I saw the idea behind the show I wasn't immediately taken by this. But then I got VERY sick and was stuck at home and it felt like I'd watched everything, so I gave it a shot. Wow... I was so surprised how much I enjoyed it.

This show definitely stretches the limit on how the law works and isn't the most accurate... But that's not why you watch a show like this. This show has heart and made me smile every single episode. I like how each character is slowly built and I really hope there's another season so I can learn more about some of the others!

Hands down the star of each scene is Marcia Gay Harden. The other actors around her are also good, but she really commands the screen when she's on it. Hope you give it a shot!

One of the better shows
marygreen2516 October 2022
So Help Me Todd is a fun legal dramedy mystery series with good performances. The running gags are humorous and the character development introduced so far is compelling. Can't find fault with anything about it. It's a light show not a serious detective drama. Very watchable. Hardin is a curmudgeon sometimes offers good contrast with Astin playing her private eye son whose recovering from bad decisions. I look forward to seeing how the show progresses and am optimistic it will get better. It's no Better Call Saul but it could get there. Maybe a karaoke scene is required to get some singing in the show!!

The chemistry is getting better...
earthman-638-3666805 November 2022
5 episodes in and I still want more. It's entertaining. The chemistry is getting better as each episode happens. And after you realize that the distant relationship between the characters in the beginning is part of the underlying backstory, it's easy to start liking them all. I'm enjoying the show and the acting. It's not like they're going for an Oscar or something. It's one of those shows that you just let happen and it pays you back with a few twists and turns, a couple laughs and satisfying story-lines. Enjoy it with a cocktail or something else that helps you smile. I think this show is going to be a good one to binge on a cold winters night once a few seasons are in the can.

Marcia Gay Hardin is the reason to watch
lisacarlson5014 October 2022
Love Hardin in anything she does. I can't for a moment see Geena Davis in the role. CBS probably had to pay her to get her to come to television. The networks seem to be doing it lately with Queen Latifah and Hillary Swank. Hardin seems to be enjoying this role. She's smart, classy and funny here as an attorney and mom. Her co-star is equally good. The mother and son dynamic feels realistic. The rest of the cast is rather invisible but that could be elevated by the writing. It's refreshing to come back to network television when there's actually genuine writing and there's only one episode that drops each week.

Finally something cute to watch!
PoppySeed1618 October 2022
Love this show so far!!!! It's so cute, a bit dramatic, but perfect this day and age!!! With so many things on tv that are regurgitated, boring and downright awful I'm so glad they made something that's light and cute to watch!!!! We can finally watch something on tv that's not over complicated and completely new.

Seriously if you are looking for something to watch that gives you good feels this is it. Seriously hope they continue to make this cute series. Don't expect anything over stimulating. This is for the people looking for something light and something. Sorry for the over used words but I just wanted to give props to this show!

Finally!
toncincin30 September 2022
A great vehicle for Skylar Astin! Loved him in the Pitch Perfect movies and on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Nice to see him in a non-musical role. He's got the talent - for sure. Such a diverse guy.

As for his "mom" - Marcia Gay Hardin ... have loved her in almost anything she's done. It's fun to see her in this type of role. (SOOOOO happy Geena Davis dropped out - Hardin is a far better match for this show.) She's great playing the "straight-arrow!"

Hopefully the quality continues. The pilot was hysterical! Fun. Frolicking. Suspense. Family dynamics! A great start.

As a side note -- It was nice seeing Andrea Brooks in a role outside of Hallmark!

Slapstick Is Slapstick
zorroaca11 October 2022
Somebody wrote "This show must have been written either for 12 to 14 year olds or to placate lunatics. It is silly in the extreme." Another... "This series could have easily been a much watch. However, the writers have taken the script to a silly, constant comedy that loses its appeal. " If these folks want serious drama... they should find it. I like the fact that it's a mixture of serious and down right stupid... in a fun way. The characters are being developed nicely and there is a warn family caring tone being developed, And as far as "wokeness" some folks need to get over themselves and realize where they are in time. I like the damn show... simple fun.

Pretty silly story lines and I love it!
bowieec11 November 2022
This show reminds me of any number of shows on the USA Network in the late 90s or early 2000s. The little mysteries are solvable within minutes of the story unfolding and much of what happens in each episode is seriously convoluted and utterly ridiculous. But I can't help watching it and I just love the show. It's really about the cast. Marcia Gay Harden, Skylar Astin, and Madeline Wise perfectly embody their characters and have fantastic chemistry. The supporting cast is also very good. Across the board the actors are all in, embracing the silly, sometimes playing it perfectly straight, and sometimes a little wacky, and it just works! It's fun and silly and quirky and I think it will get better as time goes on and the writers and producers embrace what works and throw out what doesn't. I look forward to watching this each week as a distraction from the real world.

Fun
hazangel-899105 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show is so much fun! The banter between Todd and his mother is epic. Todd is likeable and a cutie. The sister is interesting. Why is she always eating? There must be some significance. If you have time it's a great binge watching show. The 45 minutes really does fly by. I hope it gets a second season. It looks like there is a second one scheduled but one never knows.... Not sure if this happened to anyone else but Prime is missing an episode. That's random. Not sure what happened but hopefully it shows up soon. So as of now I there are only 6 episodes to watch but I believe there should be 7.

Going too far over the top.
vonlew5 May 2023
So Help Me Todd has a great cast (Marcia Gay Harden & Skylar Aston) who are very good with comedy. Their supporting cast is strong also. This show tries all of their comedy skills more than their good acting skills, though. This started out as a cute, fun, enjoyable show but, in my opinion, with time has moved too far to the sarcastic, slap stick comedy realm. The plots are thin to nonexistent giving too much time for slapstick; turning to childishness & losing the drama. I fear this show will face a premature cancellation when it still has so much promise. Please, beef up the plots, & give us a good dramedy to watch again. I know Harden & Aston can be more subtle in their roles with a good plot behind them.

This is So Good! Pure Entertainment!
rtailor-049017 November 2022
Oh how I love to watch dysfunctional but loving families in series with genius writers and actors! This is so well acted and written. Of course Marsha is smashing in her role as an uber stiff defense attorney but I have never seen the actor who plays her son before! He is so good! He plays the part perfectly as the brilliant but bumbling son. I was worried he would overplay it but he stops right at the line. Brilliant. This show is great. It's a feel good one with impeccable professional actors. I love the sister as well. She I have seen before. Watch this and laugh and smile. You deserve it!!!

Love This Show
annette-pulliam2 January 2023
This is a fun show. Marcia Gay Harden and SkylarAstin have good chemistry. I can't imagine Geena Davis in the role of the mom. I am on my second watch of the first 9 episodes. It's a show about family with a law firm as the setting. The entire cast is enjoyable. Any role Harden takes on is memorable. Love the moments when Margaret and Todd are talking at the same time. (Brings back memories of Maddy and David arguing in the 1980's show Moonlighting.) I don't watch much regular tv. But this is a show I look forward to. I hope it's picked up for a second season. The show just makes me smile. A feel good silly show.

Its a show
mweratcliffe5 October 2022
This show may get better as episodes are released but the pilot is on par with the quality of a Hallmark movie - just ok. The relationships between characters are ridiculously 1960's comedy. The comedy is based on misunderstandings, miscommunication and an inability for writers to let characters say what real people would say in order to create artificial tension comedy drama cuteness - whatever. The musical track running throughout is just dumb implying that there is continuous suspense when almost nothing at all is happening. I would say the acting is good but that would be a lie. Really not great - the best that can be said is that its a show.

what an excellent show
walkeradam-823364 March 2023
Fist of all i haven't expected that much good tv show of CBS. I liked the story, how charecters bonds another. Excellent choicesfor actors and actrists. There is no antipathic charecters. Each charecters have nice stories, mistakes and problems. I see complete stories in the show.

Each episodes we meet new charecters. I love Todd and her mother Margaret's team work. And each episodes another scene shows us how are similar mother and son charecters.

I love how Todd is a loser, broke but have an golden Heart, loves his family alot. Magaret looks a stiff mom but she loves kids alot.

With an excelent first season finale proofed how the show was good show.

If you ask me who is my favorite charecter? I love all charecters in this show aside this my favorite charecter is Susan :)

Awesome new show!!!
oconnorcm-0317930 September 2022
I loved it!! A great mixture of comedy, suspense and family drama!!!! I can't wait to watch it next week!!!! I laughed at the mom the way she goes on and on about the younger generation so attached to technology, but comes around when she realizes it's benefits. Looking forward to learning about the family dynamic, 3 kids, but 1 isn't not even listed in cast list??? The actor who is Todd is hysterical, but very serious and a smart investigator. I hope they keep this show gets great ratings and viewership, good clean family show!!!! I will definitely encourage others to watch!!!! CBS has a great Thursday night lineup!!!

Silly and serious in a perfect balance
sallymichellenelson30 April 2023
This series is just what I needed. I love a good mystery but I'm over the mostly tragic ones.

So I find this the balance of silly/funny and serious/professional perfect. I am a big fan of Bones and Castle which I've watched to death and was happy to discover this.

I find all the characters endearing. I'm a big fan of anything Skylar Astin (Todd) does. I am the age of the adult children and can definitely relate to Todd. My favourite is their mum, Margaret. She continuously surprises me and I thought those days had passed. When I think she's going to zig she zags and I love her more for it. Where most tropes involved in these kind of series would have this smart, gorgeous, confident, powerful woman only dictating to everyone while being totally out of touch with the world as her only areas of existence and knowledge are her professional life and being a mum. This character has tons more to her than that! She's a woman of power, influence and skill yet she genuinely cares for those around her and has humility. It's refreshing for the lawyer template. Watching her navigate her relationships with her adult children and adapting and learning in her parenting is sweet. I think different generations can get something out of it. I guess I just love that u can see these characters growing instead of being one dimensional.

I'm hoping it becomes super popular so they give us more.

So much fun
stephanie-4748330 September 2022
This show was very fun to watch and so well acted. My family can't wait for more episodes!

We thought Skylar Astin was charming, funny, and sincere playing a real and believable Todd. We enjoyed Todd's irreverent perspective on the other characters, too.

Todd and his mom are equally impressive but in such different, almost opposing, ways that they don't appreciate each other at first. It's heartwarming to see them start to recognize some of the other in themselves and to develop mutual respect. The case was fun, but the mother-son relationship and the relatable characters is the best part of the show so far.

Marcia Gay Hardin is GREAT
rhopkins-7958731 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Some interesting episodes, Ms. Hardin is always worth watching IMHO. I do wish that Skylar Astin would turn down the mugging for the camera and his endless over emoting and attempts at being super adorable all the time. Looking forward to his sister in the show kicking his you know what, the mother (Hardin) finally getting fed up with his attention seeking and sending him to his room for a few weeks, but there is still something here. I do hope Ms. Hardin is raking it in and laughing all the way to the bank. LOVE YOU MARCIA GAY HARDIN. You are looking great always a joy to watch. I will certainly keep watching.

Love it
mules-bookiesa24 February 2023
It's a very lighthearted show, it's pretty funny. I reminds me a bit of Psych and Monk combined . I like it a lot. I ordered paramount just so I could watch it. I like that the show isn't too serious . Do yourself a favor and give the show a try even if it's just something you have running in the background while you surf the i internet. I am sure once or twice during an episode you will look up to see what is happening. I give it an A plus . I don't have cable and I am so tired of all the garbage reality tv and all the zombie crap. Time to get back to sitcoms and just fun weekly tv shows . That is all.

Warm feeling
rully-wibisono13 November 2022
Pilot is a little bit a mess. But the characters growing, the chemistry growing, and everything looks better now.

I always smile on every last scene. This is not over the top shows. Not with big budget or overdone anything. But bring comfort feelings on every at the end of episodes.

I highly recommend this when you have bad mood or bad day at work. Easy, fun, funny, but warm.

The chemistry between mom and her son, yes it's weird, and the son is comically failure, but still within boundaries of "believable".

If the supporting like the investigator can bring some laugh. Hope they're not cancel this anytime soon.

Great show!

Great show!

Who doesn't love a good 'who done it' and slueth style show with a great mix of characters, story and actors.

Its terrific they feel Portland Oregon is such an iconic city to base the events of the show here, but its disappointing that it not really filmed in Portland.

Its nice to see aerial shots or stills of the area, but none of the "in scene" events are on location in Portland and filmed around Vancouver BC. None of the skyline out of the law office windows are of Portland (could have been "CG'd").

Maybe Portland will clean up enough for the show to be filmed here. No one likes to step over the homeless and needles.

Please keep up the great work and load of folks like the show, but don't let show fall into the netherworld of other shows -like Stumptown and Leverage- "Portland is so cool, but no one will notice we're not actually there if we just put in props, blur backgrounds, and say "Portland" every so often".

Great Actors, Mediocre Mysteries
jenniferdduval-0692623 April 2023
The winning actors and engaging family story lines are what have really drawn me in to this show. The mysteries and legal storylines could be better - the "whodunnits" seldom have a very satisfying payoff (they should track down some of the writers from "Veronica Mars..."). But I will keep tuning in for Marcia Gay Harden, Skylar Astin, and the whole Wright family and see if they can find story lines more worthy of the law firm's great cast. Seems like too many shows have actors that have to elevate their material. Such is the case with "So Help Me Todd." Great characters and great cast, and the family storylines are terrific - I was just hoping for more in the way of a law firm/PI show, especially one produced by Dr. Phil.

Great actors, poor writers
funderburkemckinley7 October 2022
This series could have easily been a much watch. However, the writers have taken the script to a silly, constant comedy that loses its appeal. More serious dialogue/situations with subtle comedy this could be a great show.

The show hosts seasoned actors who can and do make the drama scene's believable. The slapstick meaningless comedic situations are just too overwhelming. With deeper plots these seasoned actors could deliver a comedic line with subtlety and hold the audience's attention.

Not sure how far in advance these episodes are taped, here's hoping the writers sober up a bit or step aside. I'm sure Nickelodeon can use their talent.

Great show

Highly recommend.

It's funny and easy to watch. The acting is fantastic and the chemistry between the actors is great. In a world where people seem to have forgotten to just have fun and every comedy has to be littered with dark undertones this is refreshingly light. Honestly it's worth watching for MGH's wardrobe alone!
