This second episode of the four part mini-series goes into fascinating detail on the meticulous planning behind the first maiden voyage of the Titanic along with the joy and excitement everyone felt about said maiden voyage. Director Jon Jones once again captures the breathtakingly opulent beauty of the ship while writer Julian Fellowes addresses the strict caste system amongst the passengers with biting acuity. The stark horror of the ship hitting the iceberg and subsequent inevitable sinking are also rendered with a genuinely harrowing sense of raw urgency. Among the stand-outs in the large cast are Toby Jones and Maria Doyle Kennedy as a bickering second-class couple, Stephen Campbell Moore as concerned designer Thomas Andrews, Steven Waddington as a stalwart Charles Lightoller, David Calder as the hearty Captain Smith, Jenna Coleman as perky stewardess Annie Desmond, and James Wilby as smug corner-cutting jerk Bruce Ismay.
