OK If You Understand It's Fiction
juanruiz-6567929 July 2018
I recognize that the plethora of paranormal series which have infected television are totally bunk. As are the nonsense about Hoax Island, the Kilchers, the Pawn Stars, and all other "reality" TV.

However, for some unknown reason, I enjoy "Haunted Collector." Oh. sure, they use the same devices whose legitimacy have not a droplet of empirical evidence. And they cut to commercial at moments of high suspense, only to result in nothing. And they even have ridiculous situations, as in Puerto Rico, where a 16th century Spanish ghost is supposed to understand Modern English.

Nonetheless, I enjoy the actors and the premise of spirits attached to objects, even though that's bunk too. Sorry it was cancelled.

"Did you hear that"
bolei111 April 2022
"Did you hear that" I love paranormal shows. Trying to find Bigfoot, aliens, ghosts, all these types of shows are pretty fun to watch. My main complaint with this and most of all the other ones I've watched is the same: every time I am supposed to be hearing some thing on the recording, the damn soundtrack music is playing in the background and I can't tell what the hell I'm supposed to be listening to. All the shows have way too much background Music and them. Very little actually happens in this program, and hardly anything is discovered that couldn't have been shown in a 10 minute show. I like the history aspect of it, but overall, it's pretty much a run-of-the-mill Ghosthunter program. This show, and most of the other shows like it have people running around saying "did you hear that" all the time, and I never really actually hear what the hell they're talking about.

Jesslyn is afraid of her own shadow, what is she doing in this show? Not much of an investigator. The show is pretty good other than Jesslyn. I like the fact that they are trying to help people.

No Reality/No Thrills
mike-witt110 June 2011
I found this show very slow. John Zaffis seemed very well rehearsed and not really reacting to the situation, worse then that he was boring. I'm not saying this to be mean but his voice is like nails on a chalkboard. His children, who work for him, seemed to only be there for a paycheck and his team, though I am sure they are capable, provided little. It simply was not entertaining. There was also something about the way it was either filmed or edited that left me believing it was not spontaneous. It made it hard to get the good scare you want from a supernatural reality show. I didn't believe they just found the items. It seemed like Mr. Zaffis knew what he was going in to take before he started. It didn't seem new or fresh. More like Ghost Hunters Light. All the formatting, non of the thrills. I watched the whole thing but I lost interest very fast. I don't think I'll be watching again.

Poor
goldenlisasmart9 June 2011
This was a poor attempt by SyFy to keep the Ghost Hunters' fans watching on Wednesday nights. The Haunted Collector was dull. The "investigations" seemed fake and the team leader was tedious. Cut the interesting parts out of Ghost Hunters, play it at slow speed and garble the sound and it would be about the same.

I don't blame the team entirely. The show was edited poorly.

As you can tell I am a Ghost Hunters fan. I like these shows. I watch them all but not this one. It is the first time in a long time I've had to change the channel from SyFy on a Wednesday night. Help SyFy! Give me something worth watching!

Jess is always "freaked out"
dogsrwill27 September 2013
Jessalyn is supposed to be a paranormal investigator but she is always screaming and "freaked out"! Plus she cusses like a sailor. Being a paranormal investigator, is spooky and creepy,I mean, searching for ghosts and demons is scary, but she is always so scared and screaming. Plus I can't believe she cusses so much on TV, She screams then you hear beeping, because she's cussing , who wants to hear that? Get somebody who can be a real investigator and won't cuss so much and isn't so afraid of everything. The other thing I think you can improve on is they always stop investigating when the activity is at it's highest. That's when you get good evidence. Please replace Jess with a real paranormal investigator or teach her to investigate scary places without "freaking out" so much. Otherwise I love the show and John Zaffis is awesome.

Better than most Ghost Shows
walk99a12 June 2012
This show is WAY better than the ones like Ghost Hunters or Ghost Adventures where the people mainly walk around in the dark and scare each other - "Oh, I felt something" or "Did you hear that".

I like Haunted Collector because they try to rule out things that give false readings, go about their investigation in a planned, organized fashion, and do both day and night investigations.

While I'm not convinced any of the items are truly haunted, at least I feel like I'm watching someone who's trying to do a professional job and not just jumping on any cheap scare they can come up with.

It may be a little dry and procedural for your typical "ghost show" viewer, but I find it far more believable.

You get what you expect from a ghost hunting tv show.
dan_da_man-6028811 December 2019
It's like Antiques Roadshow, except instead of telling people how much their rare antiquities are worth, they just take them.

Can be interesting without necessarily being exciting
solarman-153101 August 2018
I really don't understand why most of the comments on this show are so negative. To me, everybody seems to be acting very natural and unrehearsed. That is one of the main points that I like about this show, the fact that it seems to be unrehearsed and natural. I also like the fact that they are not just investigating, but actually trying to help people with their haunting problems. The main problem is that they connect every haunting to some type of object, which I understand is the whole idea behind their show. But but I really think that this is one of the more honest ghost hunting shows created. If they made a few little tweaks here and there, I think the show would still be on the air.

Needed Additions
valeriesigler24 April 2021
I like the premise of the show. It has a chance to educate people about items they pick up. I've definitely changed my attitude about going to the thrift stores. No more old mirrors.

What I don't understand is why they don't bring in a psychic whose gifts include touching / reading objects. It drives me crazy when John says, "We will never know for sure." I want to (and do sometimes) yell at the TV--"You could know-- bring in a psychic who can tell you about who is there and then read the energy of the objects!"

I am confused as to why they don't use all the tools at their disposal. Great premise. It has the potential to be great show- get a psychic on your team.

Feels everything is setup and phony
nekahana29 August 2012
Originally I thought it would be a pretty good series, since I have always been interested in the paranormal. However, after watching 3 or 4 episodes, I really get the feeling that "objects" that they find were planted...honestly how can an item be overlooked in an area where everyone happens to be walking thru. I can understand if an item is buried, but common how can someone overlook a garrote sticking out of a wall...yes you have to look up, but still how can you not see a wire. Next, its amazing how John Zaffis, the lead investigator, happen to know when to have an EVP played back to hear a voice or a response. Perhaps the editors do a lot of editing to make John looks like he gets "the feeling".

Great show!
satoriseven23 May 2012
I thought this series was very good. This show has something authentic to it in each episode. A lot of the other shows are boring. I feel that other shows take liberties with the truth when doing their investigations. I didn't get that at all from Haunted Collector. I'm really hoping for a 2nd season. It really is one of the best. The only thing I thought could have been better with this show, was the quality of camera and editing. But for what your seeing, I thought it was really cool and interesting. It's really amazing how these guys find items that there is just no explanation as to why or how they might have come across them otherwise. The tools they use are not like any other show. The infrared camera and my favorite the radio that scans the channels and you can actually hear the ghost speaking....way cool! Anyway check it out, it's worth the watch.

"Actually"
gypsylife-3477828 April 2021
If you are watching the show "Haunted Collector" maybe you are like me -A paranormal, junkie. If you saw me, I'm sure I wouldn't fit the profile of what you might think. I have to tell you that I am unnerved by something I see & hear on this program in every episode. I find it so disturbing, I anticipate it and dread it. I challenge you, the spirits etc. To count how many times the word "Actually" is used by John Zaffis, cast & guests in the first 15 minutes of any show. It's frightening. Please--- someone help out and editi! The anxiety it causes me is similar to watching someone chew their nails, crack their gum or say "like" at the beginning of each sentence. It is totally out of my control unless I turn off the sound or the program. Remind folks that some words can just destroy the entire show. Now, all I do is count how many "Actually's" are said in an episode. If it were a drinking game- well---I'd be so wasted 10 minutes in. Words hurt... please fix this.

Not a good "ghost/haunting" show
sergioschout21 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Despite if you believe in ghosts(or not) or the fact that you just like ghost shows, this one is one of the worst out there. Luckily there are only 3 seasons, which is quite a lot for a bad ghost show.

the story line goes like this: people hear things, feel things whatever. They call in John Zafis and his team to " get rid of the ghosts". The team zeros in, nearly always, on the most expensive item in the house while doing a rather poor research job. After the "investigation" they say:"yup that item( the expensive one they zeroed in previously) is the haunted object. If you keep it here it might cause more problems. Is it OK if we take it with us?"

Take it from an antique expert who has more than 22 years of credible experience ( lived with really old antiques his whole life like swords, chests, armor, etc) If people say that old objects are haunted and want to take these valuable items with them you should say NO. there are other options that you can pursue ( like blessings and other things) if you feel that it is "haunted".

My conclusion is that this "show", though it is more like a farce, is really really badly done. Zafis daughter doesn't believe in any of it and has always a face " I'm doing this for the money so stop asking me things pa".

IF you want to see people getting scammed out of their valuables, this is the show to watch. that is why I gave it a 2/10

Why?
masterandoverlord15 June 2011
Why do they keep making these ridiculous "ghost hunting" shows? Have any of these shows ever found any real evidence of a ghost? They instead choose to over-dramatize things that happen just off camera or that the viewer has no way of knowing if the actors really experienced the event. The "scariest" part of these programs is the music and sound effects added to give them an eerie or spooky feeling. It's also odd how none of the events described by the people who work, live in, or visit these places are ever occurring when these so-called paranormal investigators are there. More ghost shows? No thanks. ***********this is added so that it will have the minimum of ten lines of text**********

No to Haunted Collector ! Yes to THE DEMON DOCTORS!
indy-colts_nfl9 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I have seen commercials saying there is going to be a 2nd season of this show? OMG really?

Listen up everyone! the only reason why John Zaffis has this show is because he is related to ED & Lorraine Warren!

OK if an object is causing the haunting that object can be cleansed and kept by the owner, it does not have to be moved out!

Listen Their is a group called THE DEMON DOCTORS who help people all over the world with hauntings! They have a GOD given gift to cast out demons, entities, paranormal activity! They have many testimonies on their web page and true case stories to read on.

http://helpwithunwantedspiritsanddemons.com/

I would love to see these guys have a show!! They truly help people and they charge nothing they are FREE! and their clients get to keep everything LOL!

Evidence
mplborda29 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
It seems to me that this show has fake evidence always being shown. Just like the mermaid series on discovery. I'm watching the episode that aired tonight, it had an old film reel that dated back 100 years or so. The film reel they showed had the clearest quality of a woman's face for such an old film. Are you serious?

I just saw another piece of evidence of someone walking in front of your camera in a basement. It clearly is fake because the guy sounds so scripted "OH-no. OH-man. I just saw something." Your cameras' evidence has no official time or anything when reviewing your "evidence"

The fake crap is so obvious its insulting but it makes me laugh. I'm glad your show rates at 4 hopefully my vote brings it down more.

What a horid MESS of a show! Just AWFUL!
brassowfor326 June 2013
Man, where do I start with how bad this is? Terrible dialogue to go along with stupidly ridiculous talking to watches, lamps, cookie jars, pens, toys.... and so on. How anyone can believe that this show is real, is totally beyond me. Scy-Fy constantly keeps coming up with these haunted/ghost type shows that are all the same. Every episode should be titled "Did You See That?... Did You Hear That?...What Was That?". Moving On, we have Deep South Paranormal, don't even get me started on how pathetic that show is! Then you've got Haunted Highway which is actually a little better than this or Deep South Paranormal, but still so put on. Good Grief... Ghost Hunters needs to end as well! Anyway, I would rate this show a 0, but you can't go any lower than 1.

Stop thinking so much.
G-Joshua-Benjamin23 March 2013
This is a neat show. I am sure this could be a half hour show, but they really get you into the story. Some say it is fake because they always find stuff in weird places. Maybe that is just what they do. I mean, it's not like they go into a best buy and find a 500 year old dagger. They go into older places with a history. Now, they may find the stuff before the show and just leave it there until they record, but I don't think so. I really like this show. I am about to get season 1 from iTunes Very cool in a non creepy, more interesting way. I will admit that sometimes, the people can be a bit....OVER dramatic. But that just adds to my belief that they are not actors. It is really hard to act like your NOT acting. They just seem like normal people who got their own show. Give them a chance!!!!

Problem Solving Ghost Hunters
alcymuluk27 July 2012
First of all, I don't think the first season was as bad as many on here (and in other places, too) claim this show to be. Yes, the cast is one of the clunkiest you can find on any reality-show nowadays ( my "favorite" is John's son), however I wouldn't bash the show for that.

I personally like the show because it goes beyond the usual GH, GHI, Ghost Adventures, etc.format, who only want to give proof that the paranormal exists. Sure, Ghost Hunters try to position themselves as the guys to call, when something paranormal is scaring you ("especially when it involves children"), but do they solve the problem? No. Do they find a solution to the hauntings they find? No. Except for a season one episode, where they called in a catholic priest to get rid of the ghosts, all they GH does is to tell the client at the end of every investigation that they basically shouldn't be afraid, that ghosts were people too and that they should peacefully co-exist with each other.

Haunted Collector tries to solve a problem. That's their premise. And while they don't do it perfectly, and sometimes make you feel that their decision-making process is kinda black-box-like (second season is way better, though, in terms of episode flow and production) I think, they are the only show out there who come up with a proper explanation for what the cause of the haunting is.

And as for John Zaffis doing the show to stealing stuff for his Museum... come on guys, do a little background check on the guy! He's a trusted authority in the field, with lots of street creds. If he wants to steal your haunted items, he could do it off-air much more efficiently.

Garbage
phattrider8 November 2017
What the hell is this dribble? I saw previews of this and thought cool, was I 110% disappointed. Why do they put out stuff like this and then rebroadcast reruns just to humiliate themselves. It is slow to start and slower throughout. The way the people talk in this show makes them sound like they'rereading scripts during a rehearsal. There is so much bad to say about this show I think other reviewers have covered them all.... I'm done.

Interesting and Intriguing
jrm-4843123 April 2021
I have recently been watching episodes of the Haunted Collector and they're pretty good. No drama and calm is appreciated when compared to other ghost hunting shows. However, having a collection of (supposed) haunted items in a museum on John Z's property is very creepy. E-gads, why? But, then, what does someone do with haunted items??? I'm just sayin'.....
