this guy is a Priest?
Aguywatching20 March 2022
Jordy has moved in with Will? The Priest is sleeping around? At times these guys pal around like fraternity brothers in their early 20's. So far both episodes are an example of the absence of any attempt at morality. This is the 50's? The local 'virtuous' Priest? Is having an extra-marital affair with a married woman? And, he repeats his sex with the woman even after he's suddenly aware she's married? Then, his buddy, the local police detective is suddenly on the outs with his wife? (even though at the end of last season, Jordy and Cathy seemed to have reconciled, and things were fine with their marriage) Jordy, the Detective, has moved into the Vicarage? Where would this happen? If Jordy was on the street, no visible means of support, perhaps.. but? A gainfully employed man? This is a silly stretch for viewer interest. I miss James Norton, he was made for this role.. so far the character development' parts of the show are messy. Regarding this specific episode, it's pretty good, as far as the plot, and the solving of the crime. That's really what a good show is all about.

A mixed bag.
Sleepin_Dragon18 March 2022
A man makes an emergency 999 call from his bedroom, when Will and Geordie arrive, they find him dead.

A mixed bag this, the visuals were spot on, it looked great, the costumes were fabulous, and the character play was good, the story, unfortunately was a total mess,, it seemed to make no sense, it was almost as if it were made up on the spot.

I really did enjoy the acting, and the characters, performance wise, Charlotte Ritchie and Rebecca Lacey were both excellent, the latter was bags of fun, she will always be remembered as the sweet, but innocent, naive receptionist in May to December, how different was she here.

The Sylvia story was the best aspect of this one, I loved the character play between her and Leonard.

Struggling again to see how Will has any time to do any Vicaring of any kind, far to busy Detecting and messing about.

Not as good as last week's, but still watchable.

6/10.

He Is Certainly Very Human

That said, Will is so over the top with his drinking and womanizing, it really distracts from the strength of this series, which is the solving of mysteries in Grantchester. Murder at the top of the list. Geordie continues to pay the price for his indiscretions.

Episode 2
Prismark107 April 2023
I doubt Will Davenport is going to do much preaching from pulpit in this series.

He spends more of his time thinking about his latest conquest Maya. Even when he is meant to be helping Geordie investigating the latest murder case.

Lester Carmichael injured his hand in a brothel, came home and was found dead. The main suspect is his more successful wife, Melanie Carmichael who has a range of cleaning brands.

Even though Geordie's new boss Elliott Wallace does not like Will poking about in murder cases. There he was interviewing the suspect at the police station right under Wallace's nose. He was also poking about with Wallace's lady at the station. All of a sudden Wallace did not mind that Will was there or he really is blind as a bat.

The mystery was decent enough, not exactly child's play. As for Will, the writers have lined up a more suitable love interest for him already.

What is up with these vicars?
Apd22726 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After only one night the show starts with "I love her", then "I think I love her" and finally "before I fall in love". Preaching morality while having an affair geez. This show has only gotten one thing right and that is Leonard.

Losing its direction
abizmom7 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Too many oddities occurring in this episode as others have observed, particularly concerning Will's personal life. As wife of vicar now, I can't believe that in the 50's the shenanigans he gets up to wouldn't be noticed by the congregation & dealt with by the archdeacon (viz Sidney in earlier episodes).

Strange & Ill-informed Anglicanism
reggie-at-random17 July 2022
When writers resort to the more ridiculous sexual exploits of their lead characters, that's a surefire signal they've truly run out of ideas. An Anglican priest tom-catting around like they have this guy doing is more than mildly repulsive. It's also clear that these writers don't belong to the Anglican/Episcopalian church or haven't spent any time within it. Holy Hannah. Wot dreck. I'll pass this season thanks.

Another ITV soap.
matthewhuk28 March 2022
90% of this episode revolves around the personal lives of Geordie and will - the far fetched priest who seems more interested in his sex life than any church duties, not even the end of episode moral sermon. The crime subplot takes a backseat in this extremely week episode.

It's a real shame Granchester just seems to becoming yet another ITV soap opera, but I guess tha's all ITV is capable of producing these days, so no great surprise there.

Marital discord everywhere!
lyndavanleeuwen18 July 2022
Not liking Maya or this storyline with her! Very destructive! Can't someone's family life take an upturn? Such discord in every home is disturbing! Can't any of the unhappiness be resolved?

Terribly done soap opera episode.
wayne-185-99356718 July 2022
This once good series has devolved into a terrible and unbearable soap opera. This particular episode is nothing more than simplistically written affairs, mixed with several instances of man-bashing.

Will and his Willy!
DoctorStrabismus30 July 2022
Only marginally more back-on-track than the utterly hapless #1 of the series.

Will and his willy seem the principal topic of it. Geordie is still wearing his dirty old mac in the height of summer, and Leonard is finding out certain stuff he knows not a lot about.

The absolute best moment in it is Larry and the maid, and that lasts no more than the blinking of an eye.

Can this series get back to its former quality, or is it doomed? (apologies to Private Frazer)

4/10.
