Jean-Claude Van Damme's doctor has ordered the movie star to don protective ear wear on film sets, after diagnosing him with high-frequency hearing loss. Years of bangs and booms in high-action movies have left the "Bloodsport" star's hearing impaired, and he recently sought expert help to correct his partial deafness.
The doctor's session was shown on U.K. TV documentary series "Jean Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors" on Tuesday, May 10, and the tough guy revealed, "I shot lots of guns in movies but I'm able to hear unusual sounds, like if you slide fax paper in the living room I can hear it, like a German Shepherd."
Van Damme then underwent several tests before he was diagnosed with high-frequency hearing loss - and he was urged to protect his ears as much as possible. The doctor told him, "There is a difference in hearing in high frequencies between...

Van Damme then underwent several tests before he was diagnosed with high-frequency hearing loss - and he was urged to protect his ears as much as possible.
The doctor told him, "There is a difference in hearing in high frequencies between both sides (of his ears), which means if many people are talking together in a group, it's quite difficult for you to understand someone speaking. You hear, but you can't understand.
"That's the problem when there's a high-frequency hearing loss. What you can do is not make it worse, so use ear protection when you go out (and shoot) movies."
During the medical consultation, Van Damme was also warned he may need to undergo surgery on his nose in the future, due to a deviated septum.

Jean-claude Van Damme's wife Gladys Portugues is campaigning to fulfil the action star's greatest dream - to land a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Van Damme walked along the famous Los Angeles landmark when he was a young wannabe and fantasised about the day his name would be among the greats.
Portugues is desperate to see the Bloodsport star receive the sidewalk honour while he's still alive, insisting the tribute is "so long overdue".
Appearing on reality show Jean Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors, she explains, "It all started way back in the '80s. I was very pregnant with (son) Kristopher. Jc and I would walk on the Walk of Fame at all hours of the night. You can walk here till three in the morning - you see the stars and you see so many people and so much life.
"We always used to look at the stars and kind of reminisce. We even put our handprints over Bruce Lee's, for example, and I did Marilyn Monroe's.
"He's accomplished his dream with his acting and being in movies but his biggest dream yet - it needs to be accomplished and it will be accomplished - is a star on the Walk of Fame.
"It's something that is so long overdue for him and he so deserves it and I do hope that he gets it one day while he's alive. I tell you, the day he gets one, I will be in tears. I'll make sure I wear no mascara, no make-up, no nothing."...

Jean-claude Van Damme is still haunted by his adulterous past, insisting he hasn't forgiven himself for leaving his wife Gladys.
The action man met actress and former bodybuilder Gladys Portugues when they were both in their early 20s and they fell madly in love before tying the knot in 1987.
But the Bloodsport star left Portugues after launching a movie career and finding fame in Hollywood - a decision he regrets to this day.
The pair reconciled and remarried in 1999, but he still hasn't forgiven himself for betraying her.
In his Jean Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors TV show, the Belgian actor explains, "This woman (has) been with me for years, when I was a nobody. When I was driving a taxi and I stole food in the market because I didn't have any money. I even stole my first birth test (to) find out if she was pregnant with (son) Kristopher in her tummy. Then I left this woman because I did go on the Hollywood lifestyle. I didn't know the jewel I was having.
"I am so happy that Gladys forgave me for my mistakes. (She is) close to being perfect to me. Believe me, I'm so happy. I am blessed. But me, I didn't forgive myself yet. I did not. I am living with that problem with my heart. I'm living with the scar. I want to take the scars away."...

Fighter-turned-movie star Jean-claude Van Damme's son Kristopher is "nervous" about his dad's upcoming return to the ring - because, at 50, he's not in tip-top martial arts shape.
The Universal Soldier star turned his back on fighting when he broke into movies in the 1980s, but he has signed up for a bout with Thai kickboxer Somluck Kamsing.
In a new U.K. TV special, Jean Claude Van Damme: Behind Closed Doors, the action man's son admits he is worried about his father's comeback.
Kristopher says, "This stuff makes me nervous after a while. The cliches are his age or his body's not used to this kind of impact any more. We're here to support and that's what's important - pure support."
The reality TV series features footage of Van Damme undergoing X-rays and scans at a hospital to see if he's in shape for the November bout.
Following the tests, Van Damme was told he would need to cut his trademark roundhouse kick from his fight routine.
He says, "We got to change the movement. It's new muscles."...
