Barbara Schnitzler, who plays Margot Honecker, is the daughter of Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler, the communist chief propagandist of East German television. In an earlier Honecker-related TV movie, Willkommen bei den Honeckers (2017), Karl-Eduard von Schnitzler was used as a character.
This is the first directorial work by Jan Josef Liefers with him not appearing on camera; however, his voice can be heard at the end of the movie as the voiceover of Kornelius as an adult.
