When the security guard Walter Parsell is found dead stabbed on the back with a weapon made in prison in front of jeweler, the CBI agents assume the case. They learn that Parsell was studying criminology aiming to be a detective, and he intended to transfer the prison leader Marcus Lansdale to a maximum security prison. Meanwhile, Rigsby investigates a list of criminals where his father Steve Rigsby is listed. His girlfriend provides fake leads while Patrick checks the criminals in the surveillance control area.

"Like a Redheaded Stepchild" is a different episode of "The Mentalist", with Rigsby's relationship with his father as the lead attraction. The criminal is a great surprise and a great twist in the end. My vote is eight.

The Mentalist episode 21 season 3 "Like a Redheaded Stepchild"

Warning: Spoilers
I enjoy watching the Mentalist, I found it was a great show since day 1. This episode, and I thought I should point this out, I found a mistake. *SPOILER ALERT* When Jane, and Lisbon visit the college, when the woman teaches the class asks about May 31st 1979, she writes it in capitals; MAY 31st 1979, but later when they show another angle, you see it written in cursive, and not in capitals; May 31st 1979. Just thought I'd point this out. Otherwise, I found this episode very entertaining, and I usually don't find mistakes, and this interested me. I thought I should share it.

Somehow the best episode of the season

Warning: Spoilers
My overall rating of "The mentalist"'s Season 3: 4/10.

Ok, this is again one of such cases where an episode that isn't outright amazing gets a great mark from me by doing few things wrong. Although they're kind of big things:

* Within the first 30 seconds of the episode Rigsby brings up a random jewellery store robbery unprompted, and that turns out to be a Chehov's gun.

* These have got to be some of the most incompetent inmate smugglers in history, literally doing their thing in front of a camera. At least turn with your backs towards it!

* There are some lame/cringy scenes, such as the one at the criminology class - really, nobody remembers the discussed prisoner's name, but then the teacher does by... associating the student with a Roman general?.. It's cringy regardless.

* There are some strange/untypical scene transitions.

But for the most part it's a reasonably cool episode, with interesting characters and more insight into Rigsby, although nothing we didn't already know. Oh well, still beats all of the other episodes in Season 3. (Which is a bit disheartening)
