The current (2022) leader of Russia, Vladamir Putin, joined the Soviet Communist Party and KGB right out of college. He spent his entire career in the KGB, serving much of it in Germany in part supporting the Red Army Faction terrorist group, until the collapse of the Soviet Union when he, and many of his cohorts, transitioned into politics.—David Foss
