The best season 13 episode with one of the most boring
brandyharringtonfan5 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As I am a huge fan of this show, I still continue to watch all the episodes. However, most of them have been very weak (slowly getting more tolerable like with "Wallhalla" and stuff).... with the exception of "Salty Sponge", this is the best episode of the show in years! This episode's one star bomb ratings make as much sense as rating "Brandy & Mr. Whiskers" episodes less than a 7/10.

This episode is filled with fun references to episodes especially like "No Weenies Allowed", and for once they don't feel shoved in to please the 'SpongeBoomers'. It also has an animation style similar to season 4 in some scenes, like on the pictures at the end of the episode, the one in the center feels very "old SpongeBob" like. It's very enjoyable, and the humor in general is really fun. One time characters in this one are good too, I love how they treat SpongeBob like their god.

The animation is spectacular in both of these episodes, as always.

I also love how SpongeBob is in this episode, this episode feels more like classic SpongeBob doing classic stuff, whereas the other season 13 episodes he's just felt like a Patrick clone to some copasticity. It reminds me of episodes like "MuscleBob BuffPants" where he barely needs to try to get the respect of everyone, it's really funny.

Ok, if I haven't made myself clear, THIS IS A FUNNY EPISODE. Please give it a chance, I'm starting to feel hopeful for the rest of this season to be honest. 8/10.

I hate to end the good stuff, but I really didn't like "Karen for Spot". This episode can be described in one word: boring. Overused plot with boring characters and little to no substance in its humor.

I did like Plankton's plot, it made me wish the entire episode was focussed on him instead of Karen's dilemma. SpongeBob and Karen were pretty mediocre though, and the second half of the episode kinda reminded me of "Say Awwww!" too, which is not a good thing.

This episode felt like someone on the staff had a f3t1sh (censored because of IMDb) with all the stuff about Spot growing and eating everything, it was mostly uncomfortable but made me wonder what was going on behind the scenes.

Maybe I'm being "too negative" all of a sudden, but I'm just glad "Salty Sponge" was a fantastic episode. "Karen for Spot" is a 4/10, scores average to a 6/10, as much I didn't want it to be under an 8 for the average.

SpongeBob, please continue to make stuff like this.

who keeps giving these one stars?
rsukinol30 January 2023
I notice people keep giving recent episodes 1 stars for no reason probably without even watching them. Im not saying you're not allowed to have an opinion but you should really stop being so biased towards everything that's not pre movie. Especially the post sequel era. You may not like them as much as the old episodes but spongebob has always been spongebob. I just don't get the hate besides nostalgia blindness and years of internet dwellers bad opinions. As writing this, karen for spot hasn't released yet but the salty sponge is a very fun episode! The krusty krab closes due to urchins so spongebob gets a temporary job at the salty spitoon. Which i believe is the first time we actually get to see the inside of! It's a classic scenario of spongebob being inside a tough scary place with alot of creature visuals and the coloring and atmosphere is really nice and sets the mood very well, especially the kitchin having a red hue. After seeing that Mrs Puff who is a regular in the joint. Runs out in fear in seeing spongebob, they have a competition to see how tough spongebob is. Of course spongebob wins because of his spongeyness in some fun gags. He becomes the new boss of the salty spitoon and turns it into the softy spitoon and makes it all cutesy and stuff. Its a really fun episode i recommend actually giving these a chance instead of mindlessly hating on them for no reason. Spongebob is one if the few true cartoonists driven shows so it's always fun to see what they do next! Ian V also directs here and its amazing as always!

Salty Sponge is a must-watch.

Before Welcome to Binary Bottom, season 13 didn't have any great episodes imo, but now, more than half of the episodes since Welcome to Binary Bottom are great.

I like how this isn't even an unpopular opinion, many people think the season is improving.

First segment of the episode is Salty Sponge, and it's the best SpongeBob SquarePants episode in more than 15 years imo.

SpongeBob is super in-character and likable, the references are perfect, the writing is very good, the episode is super creative and unique, and this one actually had many hilarious jokes. It's an excellent episode, and the best post-Krusty Towers episode imo. 9/10.

Karen for Spot is very unique and creative, with interactions between SpongeBob and Karen, and Karen needing help to care for Spot.

It doesn't have many jokes, but most jokes in the episode were good imo.

It didn't have any scene that I didn't enjoy, and I think it's one of the best episodes of the season. I give it a 7.5/10, very close to an 8/10.

Salty Sponge: 9/10 Karen for Spot: 7.5/10 Salty Sponge/Karen for Spot: 8.25/10 -> 8/10 (Great episode)

Imo this is the best episode of the season, and I hope this streak of great episodes doesn't end soon.
