Soap Opera meets Gonzo
lor_5 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Veteran (and quite talented) director James Avalon is canny: in recent years he's been directing or photographing innumerable porn features adapted to the public's interest in all-sex content, after a lauded career of storytelling in Adult Cinema.

For this Erotica X soap opera series, the story set-ups are minimal and brief: just long enough to introduce characters and then quickly segue to the XXX payoff lasting about half an hour per vignette.

Glaringly missing are the many other characters referred to only verbally, and the sort of action (beyond sex) that would have made a reasonable facsimile of a real movie. In this first Volume of the series, much emphasis (verbally) is made on a big gala party, but we never see it and there are no extras at all on the payroll.

An unseen modern equivalent of a gossip coumnist, named Betty, voices over the key story material to intro each vignette. First scene stars zoftig Sofi Ryan as a social influencer, now highly successful businesswoman, humping her man Damon Dice. Ryan is terrific, but the material is weak.

Overacting, especially in extremely fake (nearing the point of parody) portrayal of sexual passion and ecstasy, hurts the rest of the show. A notable hambone is redhead Lacy Lennon, currently popular even though her antics closely resemble the excess of porn icon Teri Weigel, whose noisy approach to orgasms was widely mocked two decades ago.

She plays a haughty diva of a singer, who has (apologies to A Star Is Born) outshined her husband, a former star rock group frontman Quinton James.

Aiden Ashley is highly effective as an oversexed cleaning lady, having sex in the kitchen with her unfaithful employer Charles Dera.

SPOILER TIME: Silliest scene features interracial sex between Scarlit Scandal and her pool boy Tyler Nixon. It's a sneaky scene played out as infidelity by a cheating housewife, but handy-dandy Betty the narrator informs us afterward that the couple was just role-playing, Nixon actually being her husband.
