Musicals make everything better.
That's one of the lessons Barry and Kara learned when the superheroes teamed up on The Flash Season 3 Episode 17 "Duet."
While the musical may not have done anything to advance the plot of either show, we didn't mind at all. We were too busy smiling and singing along.
It wasn't easy to pick our favorite moments, but that's what we've tried to do.

Among the myriad titles that now call themselves Netflix Originals, VeggieTales in the House is part of the great children’s offerings that go a little too unnoticed for my tastes.
Now sure, we wouldn’t be on season 4 of this one if no one paid attention to it, and/or the other offerings available for kids, but the big name productions are the things people won’t stop forcing you to hear about… unless you travel in certain circles.
Well, if you’re near people of an appropriate age, it’s about time someone made sure you were up on this one, or clued you in on the show’s return if you are already familiar with it.
Catch a couple of clips below, and tune in for the new season.

When it comes to popularity, most musicians are reluctant to risk losing it. Gaining mainstream popularity as a musician is such a ludicrously difficult accomplishment that once they’ve got it, they’re desperate to hold on to it.
But popularity doesn’t come without its disadvantages. In many ways, mainstream success cements the public’s (and more importantly, the fans’) opinions and expectations. Many musicians achieve popularity because of a certain sound or style, and to experiment with these ingredients can often lead to disaster (take Metallica’s Load, for example, which saw many fans disappointed).
This inability to experiment can lead to disillusionment and frustration – and that’s where alter egos come in. Alter egos are a safe way for musicians to distance themselves from their main act and try new things. If it goes badly, they can just retreat back to their primary stage name. The...

Broad City, Season 2, Episode 5, “Hashtag Fomo”
Written by Chris Kelly
Directed by Jeff Tomsic
Airs Wednesdays at 10:30pm on Comedy Central
Alter egos for characters in comedy television series is nothing new. Indeed, Abbi’s Val is a similar kind of double life persona as Ron Swanson’s Duke Silver on Parks and Recreation. There’s something special about Val, though. Maybe it’s because, as has been pointed out by many others online, that crazy lady back in the season premiere screeching, “Val!”, on the subway wasn’t so nuts after all. Maybe it’s because it allows Abbi Jacobson to break out a ridiculous Prohibition-era accent, strut around like an old-timey diva, and swallow diamonds with aplomb.
A crucial aspect of this episode is something previous reviews have pointed out is happening this season: the Abbi revolution. This isn’t a whole new Abbi, so perhaps evolution...

It must be hard being a famous musician, because so many of them desperately want to be other people. How else do you explain the sheer volume of alternate personalities that have been invented in music over the last few decades?
From David Bowie to The Beatles, even the most famous and beloved musicians get the urge to live in someone else’s skin for a bit. Sometimes, as with Ziggy Stardust and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the results are a smashing success and become catalysts for future musician’s to indulge in some split personality fun.
With the number of musicians who take a stab at acting later in their careers, it seems a lot of alter egos are born out of frustration for having chosen the wrong profession in the first place. Or maybe they were struggling actors at one point, made...

I originally took notice of the project when the trades announced that the oft-used supporting indie starlet Louisa Krause (non-related pic above — who we interviewed back in the day for Martha Marcy May Marlene) was the featured “potential screamer” lead on this project. Filmmaker Jordan Galland has flirted with Park City before, his debut Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead (2009) received a special screening status at Slamdance. Along with his sophomore film item Alter Egos (2012), the summer shot Brooklyn set Ava’s Possessions basically informs us that the musician slash filmmaker’s interests lie within the framework of the horror genre. Certainly the addition of supporting players include Lou Taylor Pucci, Jemima Kirke, Stella Schnabel (You Wont Miss Me) and John Ventimiglia amps up the end product, and Galland’s ongoing creative collaboration with musician Sean Lennon might earmark the project as an appointment with the occult that avoids trappings of...

Warner Bros. has been sitting on the rights to Ernie Cline’s novel Ready Player One for four years now, having acquired them in a bidding war in 2010. Things seem to be finally moving forward, however, with the involvement of renowned screenwriter Zak Penn. Having helped out on The Avengers, X2 and Pacific Rim 2, he also wrote X Men: Last Stand, Elektra and The Incredible Hulk. Now, he’s being brought in to deliver a finished script that was originally adapted by Eric Eason (Journey To The End Of The Night) and the book’s author, Cline.
Ready Player One is a futuristic sci-fi tale, set after the human race has exhausted the Earth’s supply of fossil fuels. While the world has descended into chaos and violence, the population has become increasingly reliant on a multiplayer online virtual reality simulation called Oasis – as a means of distraction and escape.

When the second season of our popular crime drama Cracked premiers January 6th, psychologically "cracked" (not broken) Detective Aidan Black (David Sutcliffe, Private Practice) will be paired with a new psychiatrist, Dr. Clara Malone (Brooke Nevin, Alter Egos), replacing Psych Crimes liaison Dr. Daniella Ridley (Stefanie von Pfetten, Seeds of Destruction). Changing a major character between seasons may seem like a pretty risky maneuver for a fledgling show, but we’re very excited about the energy and emotion Nevin brings to the cast. Besides, it wouldn’t be the first time that it’s happened on a popular series. Here’s our list of the more memorable actress replacements and character changes on TV.

Now that you’ve officially had a full year to catch Jordan Galland’s “Alter Egos,” it’s time to indulge in some outtakes and deleted scenes. But just in case you’re a little late to the game, the film stars Kris Lemche as a superhero named Fridge. In poor Fridge’s world, there are so many wannabe caped crusaders roaming the streets that the guys with the real powers, guys like Fridge and his buddy C-Thru (Joey Kern), are in financial ruin. They lost their government funding and public support is long gone. On top of that, Fridge has a relationship crisis on his hands because his girlfriend digs his alter ego more [ Read More ]

Iron Man, Wolverine, and Superman better watch out. Thanks to Jordan Galland’s “Alter Egos,” there’s a new supervillain lurking around that might actually have the power, wit, and charm to take them down. “Alter Egos” made its big debut at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival before rolling into an October 19, 2012 release. It features Kris Lemche as Fridge, a superhero who suffers an identity crisis after he finds out his girlfriend digs his alter ego more. Even then, Fridge still has a job to do, so with all his emotional baggage in tow, he teams up with his buddy C-Thru (Joey Kern) to complete a mission. In an industry [ Read More ]

After hitting Fantasia, the Napa Valley Film Festival, Sci-Fi-London Film Festival and more, Jordan Galland’s “Alter Egos” enjoyed a limited theatrical release and a run on VOD platforms. You can still catch the film in full on iTunes or on DVD via Amazon, but we’ve also got a brand new piece of the production to share – a 20-minute behind the scenes documentary. The film features Kris Lemche as the superhero Fridge. Of course that’s only his alter ego, but his real persona falls to the wayside when Brendan opts to bury himself in Fridge after he finds out his girlfriend loves his superhero form more. Enter Jordan Galland, the writer/director best known for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead. With Alter Egos he enters the big screen/small budget superhero world with a comedy which is set in a very normal looking world where superheroes have been outed. And they're not just guys playing at superheroes, we're talking individuals who have powers. There's a lot of them and they've formed the Super Corps, an organization ran by Captain Amazingness, who collects government funding in return for fighting off super villains. Except there are no super villains left and Super Corps is falling on hard times. In an effort to win back their funding, Captain Amazingness develops a plan: bring back a super villain. Currently in limited theatrical release and available On Demand, the Jordan Galland film stars Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, Christine Evangelista, John Ventimiglia and Danny Masterson. In Alter Egos , at a time when superheroes have lost government funding and public support, a superhero meets a girl who can help him overcome his own emotional crisis.

Kudos to those who want to establish their own superhero mythology in 2012. The storytelling has evolved beyond the echoes of Greek myth since Superman burst upon the scene in the 1930s, to the point where thousands of these characters have existed in multiple mediums. Filmgoers used to consider the origins of Batman as cinematic shorthand; now, they’re often deeply familiar with the deconstructionism of “Watchmen.” So forgive the crudeness -- “Alter Egos” writer-director Jordan Galland has some big brass ones. Shot on what looks to be a fairly restrictive budget, “Alter Egos” concerns Brendan (Kris Lemche), a sheepish urbanite who moonlights as costumed crime fighter The Refrigerator. Fridge, as the “F” on his chest signifies, is having a serious identity crisis, seducing his girlfriend both as his costumed identity and his mild-mannered alter ego. The line separating the two personae has nearly vanished. Our introduction to...

The current saturation of superhero films can be traced back to the mammoth success of Superman in 1978. The popularity of comic book heroes continued through the 1980s and 1990s with the Batman films, then Marvel hit pay dirt with Spiderman and has continued its success with this year’s Avengers. There have been so many comics and graphic novels translated to film that it was inevitable that the satires, spoofs, and revisionist versions would follow. The new film Alter Egos takes its place among this group, successfully adding a new point of view to the genre.
The movie establishes its offbeat tone early on, as the superhero Fridge (all the super characters in this world vision have descriptive names, such as C-Thru and Sunburn) takes mass transportation, then walks all the way across town to an assignment. Carrie’s first teaser trailer unveiled at New York Comic-Con made for a good start to the film’s promotional campaign; it just wasn’t enough to crack the top three. Too bad that Evil Dead has yet to hit the Web (in non-bootleg form). Nycc most certainly would have made an appearance in the Best Stuff had that been the case. The Best Stuff 1. Alter Egos Trailer: An innovative concept on paper gives way to an oddly intriguing trailer. Alter Egos is far from your average superhero movie and is all the more charming because of it. Kris Lemche carries the trailer from an emotional standpoint, giving just enough for the viewer to make a connection, while the editor divulges just enough plot to give you a sense of what you’re in for, but leaving you curious for...

Another week means another haul of trailers dumped unceremoniously on the web, and this time around we have Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty (starring Taylor Kinney, Jessica Chastain, Chris Pratt, Joel Edggerton, Mark Strong), Jordan Galland's superhero comedy Alter Egos (starring Brooke Nevin, Danny Masterson, Kris Lemche), an interview with Gerard Butler for Gabriele Muccino's soccer comedy Playing for Keeps with Jessica Biel, and Sean Baker's drama Starlet (with James Ransone and Dree Hemingway). Finally, Warner Brothers goes on a Batman blitz with trailers for the Blu-ray release of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, the video game Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, and the upcoming animated feature Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (starring Peter Weller, Ariel Winter, and Michael Emerson).
There's lots to be excited about and Zero Dark Thirty looks to be a very promising follow-up to The Hurt Locker. Check them all out below.

Sean Lennon exhibited near superhuman strength when it came to composing the score to “Alter Egos,” writer/director Jordan Galland’s new indie film. The comedy, which opens at New York’s Cinema Village on Thursday, is about superheroes who fall from grace with ordinary citizens. The plot revolves around a superhero who puts a mission in peril when he finds out his girlfriend is cheating on him with his own Alter Ego. [More after the jump...] Remarkably, Lennon wrote more than 20 cues in four days, including the vocal tune, “My Hero.” Hitfix brings you the exclusive first listen to five of the...

While hordes of movie fans were drooling over the fortuitous timing of trailers for remakes of horror classics "Evil Dead" and "Carrie" at New York Comic Con, another example of a mainstream genre surfaced to considerably less exposure though it provides more room for discussion. Released online just a few days ahead of its limited theatrical release Friday, Oct. 19, the low-budget superhero comedy "Alter Egos" marks the first occasion that Kevin Smith's SModcast Pictures banner has associated itself with a movie not written and directed by Smith. Despite Smith's fanboy clout, "Alter Egos" has seen minimal exposure since its under-the-radar July premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival, where it received a handful of generally appreciative reviews. I have yet to see the movie, but the trailer presents an enjoyably snarky riff on the ethos driving the superhero phenomenon. Writer-director Jordan Galland, whose...

Kevin Smith has written superhero comics, owns a comic book store, and almost directed a Superman movie, but for some strange reason the stars have never quite aligned so that we’d get a full-fledged Smith-based superhero film – until now. Smith’s Smodcast Pictures has acquired the rights to Jordan Galland’s superhero comedy Alter Egos and we’ve got the new official theatrical trailer for the film. Breathe it in, true believers – this could be the closest we’ll ever get to a Kevin Smith comic book movie. Featuring Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, Christine Evangelista and John Ventimiglia, Alter Egos goes the route of many indie superhero movies – featuring not the big-budget special effects and action-packed extravaganzas of...

Been as busy as a bee in a tar bucket, Kevin Smith is set to distribute Alter Egos, an indie superhero comedy he didn’t direct.
His Smodcast Pictures was set to help out scrappy newcomer Jordan Galland‘s low-budget film and now the first full-length trailer has arrived.
Directed and written by Galland (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead) the flick stars the mostly unknown cast as Kris Lemche, Danny Masterson, Christine Evangelista and Sean Lennon who also contributed an original musical score.
Quirky movie – which tells the story of an under-appreciated superhero going through an emotional crisis during a time when superheroes have lost all government funding and public support – got its world debut at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal in July.
Check out the trailer and poster below for Alter Egos. The film opens in limited release October 19th, 2012 and hits VOD on November 20th.

Superhero features have risen significantly in popularity over the last decade. With Marvel Studio’s stable of movies culminating in this summer’s The Avengers, and Christopher Nolan’s hugely successful Batman franchise also coming to a close this summer, the commercial success of the genre is at an all-time high. The rise of the genre, however, has also paved the way for unconventional takes on superheroes, with features such as Kick-Ass and Chronicle exploring offbeat avenues to superheroism. Along the vein of this thread comes the latest feature, Alter Egos. Written and directed by Jordan Galland, this picture is notable for being released under Kevin Smith’s fledgling production banner Smodcast Pictures, and stars Danny Masterson, Brooke Nevin, Kris Lemche, and John Ventimiglia. The first trailer for the movie has now been released, and can be seen below.

In recent years we've seen plenty of comedies that explore the mundane details of being a superhero, which means that if you're going to attempt something similar, you'd better bring something new to the table. Unfortunately, the first trailer for Jordan Galland's Alter Egos does not seem particularly promising on that front. Set in a world where superheroes are a dime a dozen and their government funding is in danger of being pulled, a superhero named Fridge (Kris Lemche) is forced to come to terms with the fact that his girlfriend loves his superhero identity more than his civilian self. Aside from the fact that it's clearly just a rehash of Batman Forever (I'm kidding... kinda), Alter Egos seems like it can't quite decide if it wants to be a comedy or a drama. Having actors dress up in goofy, low budget costumes can only take a movie so far,...

Alter Egos inhabits a fantasy world where superheroes are a dime a dozen. If you have the powers, as lead supers Fridge (Kris Lemche), and C-Thru (Joey Kern), do, then, well, you can practice them for good, as long as you follow the guidelines, or at least some of them. Quite obviously, this is a parody of parodies and flips the superhero genre on its head. Like Superman, Fridge is dorky in his human clothes. Unlike Superman, it's not because he has to do so to keep his identity under wraps—more like he uses his superhero garb to explore different facets of his personality, as evidenced by the title. Somewhere along the storyline, he must tackle the fact that his girlfriend loves his superhero identity more than his unmasked self, and, naturally, face his nemesis, the man who killed his mom and dad—although he really doesn't want to.

Here's a fun trailer for a new superhero comedy called Alter Egos, which is being distributed by Kevin Smith's Smodcast Pictures. It looks like a solid little indie film. The story introduces us to a world in which superheroes have lost government funding and public support. It was written and directed by Jordan Galland and stars Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, Christine Evangelista, Sean Lennon, John Ventimiglia and Danny Masterson.
Here's the synopsis:

If writer/director Jordan Galland’s “Alter Egos” had come out, say, five years ago, it would look pretty original. Nowadays, though, stripping down (if you will) the superhero into an Everyday schmoe with real-world problems is pretty old hat. Curiously, though, this type of storyline has never really managed to get big-time studio funding, and are mostly relegated to indie films. I guess studios just don’t think you’re interested in such a tale. You can prove them wrong by checking out Galland’s “Alter Ego”, opening in limited release and on VOD next month. Until then, check out a latest trailer and poster for the film. At a time when superheroes have lost government funding and public support, a superhero meets a girl who can help him overcome his own emotional crisis. Unless Clerks and Red State director Kevin Smith gets his hockey film Hit Somebody off the ground soon, he's pretty much done with filmmaking. However, he will be using his name and clout to help aspiring filmmakers, who might not otherwise have a chance to send their movie to theaters, bring their vision to audiences. One of those endeavors from Smith's Smodcast Pictures distribution banner is Alter Egos, a superhero comedy that loses some of the darkness of Kick-Ass and adds real superpowers. Honestly, it looks like a solid little indie comedy that could have shown up at a film festival. There aren't many familiar names other than Danny Masterson, but this looks like it could be a fun little flick. Check out the trailer below! Here's the first trailer for Jordan Galland's Alter Egos originally from Yahoo: Jordan Galland (Slamdance entry Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead) writes and directs Alter Egos.

An adolescent’s sixteenth birthday marks a turning point in life when maturation occurs at a much more rapid pace and the teenager begins to be faced with difficult and important decisions that will shape their future. The same can be said of Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival, set to kick off its sixteenth edition tomorrow: its Super Sweet Sixteen promises to be nothing if not interesting. That’s not to say that the main focus of North America’s largest genre film festival is changing; in fact, between prolific director Takashi Miike’s festival opener For Love’s Sake – fresh from Cannes and having its North American premiere – and the Canadian premiere of animation studio Laika’s Paranorman, which closes the fest three weeks later, filmgoers will have a whopping 160 films from around the world to choose from. Sitges eat your heart out.

While Ricky, Edgar, Justine and myself work on our pieces about the films that we are most looking forward at this year’s Fantasia Film Festival, I thought that I would talk about the experience that every film-goer to Fantasia experiences: the films that for one reason or another you have to miss.
Sometimes it is because a screening sells out before you can get tickets. That will be especially heart-breaking this year, because in past years, Fantasia has deliberately programmed some Tba screenings so that they could replay films that sold out. This year with 160 feature films there is absolutely no flex, so if a screening sells out, you are probably not going to be able to see the film (at least at Fantasia.)
But even if you are the first person in line to buy tickets and have an unlimited budget, you have to face the fact that...

The Fantasia Film Festival held their press conference today to unveil their 2012 line-up and honestly we are still processing the information dump. Mitch Davis said during the press conference that the only way to properly describe the festival would be “to tie you to chairs, force feed you caffeine and sugar and talk to you for 17 days.” As usual, Mitch is simultaneously completely insane and completely accurate.
Last year, we published over 100 reviews/articles about/from Fantasia and recorded six podcasts. We intend to at least equal those numbers this year. Expect articles about our most anticipated films from several of us in the next few days, once we have time to study the 2012 Fantasia program book. (At 396 pages, you could use the damn thing to do wrist curls and I think that it has already been declared a Weapon of Mass Destruction by bugs everywhere.)

Alter Egos Trailer. Jordan Galland‘s Alter Egos (2012) teaser trailer stars Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, and Danny Masterson. Alter Egos’ plot synopsis: “At a time when superheroes have lost government funding and public support, a superhero meets a girl who can help him overcome his own emotional crisis.”
This film reminds me of Vs but without the edge. I can’t believe the main hero’s name is Fridge. That is almost as stupid as Splash Down from The Incredibles.
My favorite part of the Alter Egos teaser trailer:
You’ve got some nerve. Breaking up with me in an email. Who do you think you are? Batman?
So funny. His girlfriend was cheating on him with himself…his alter ego.
Alter Egos also stars Christine Evangelista, John Ventimiglia, Adam LeFevre, Kristina Klebe, Sean Lennon, Geneva Carr, Marina Squerciati, Carmen Goodine, Daniel Sauli, and Carlos Velazquez.

With superhero movies everywhere these days, it was only a matter of time before we started to see some films about caped crusaders who weren’t quite so heroic as guys like Batman. The latest feature to take a look at masked avengers in a slightly different light is Alter Egos – and we’ve got a new trailer for the comedy for your perusal. Directed by Jordan Galland (who brought us the very cool Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead), Alter Egos follows a superhero who needs to be saved from his own emotional crisis. While that sounds a little heavy, believe us when we tell you the whole thing is played for laughs.
