Commonplaces
Elizabeth Hepworth bounces a baby, bathes it, weighs it and plays with it in this pointless short subject from British film magnate Cecil Hepworth.
Hepwort often used his family in his shorts, and this is a case where he did so. Why he chose to make this commonplace home movie available at this late date is a mystery. Was it simply that the Lumieres had been offering similar scenes of lesser length for a decade? Was it an act of vanity to have it in his catalogue? In the year when Hepworth produced some marvelous trick films and RESCUED BY ROVER, a film so popular it wore out the camera negative and had to be reshot, and triggered a couple of sequels, this film indicated that Hepworth thought the demand for film was so huge that he could sell anything.
