Dr. Sharpe's case with the young boy in a coma bears resemblance to the similar and widely publicized UK cases of Alfie Evans and Archie Battersbee. They both had severe medical conditions, but the families and the medical teams disagreed on whether or not to withdraw life support. Both cases were decided on the basis of the UK Children Act 1989, and ultimately the Courts ruled against the families' wishes, allowing life support to be withdrawn in the best interest of the child.
