- Adjusting to his new surroundings as police chief of Saint-Marie, DI Richard Poole searches the island for a decent cup of tea while investigating the strange murder of a bride who was killed with a spear-gun.
- Lisa Moore is murdered with a spear-gun minutes after her beach wedding,in a room for which she had no key. Aided by new sergeant Camille Poole suspects Lisa was having an affair, either with best man Adam or the hunky diving-instructor Stefan, whose prints are the only ones on the murder weapon. Then it is announced that Lisa was an heiress, due to inherit a large legacy on getting married. So was the motive greed or a crime of passion? At least Poole, having wrapped up the case, gets a decent cup of tea, courtesy of Camille's mother, and gets to go for a paddle.—don @ minifie-1
- Now seconded to the Sainte Marie police, DI Richard Poole and DS Camille Bordey investigate the death of Lisa Watson, a new bride who had been married to Darren Moore earlier that day in a ceremony on the beach. Poole and Watson saw her body fall from the window of her hotel room, impaled by a spear from a spear gun. All of the family - her parents, younger sister, husband and best man - claim to have been in their rooms at the time Lisa fell or was pushed from the balcony. CCTV footage confirms that no one came or left the bridal suite's VIP floor before she died so Poole is convinced one of them is the culprit. They initially suspect the dead woman may have been having an affair with the best man, Adam, but when they learn she was an heiress who would come into her fortune on her wedding day, the main question becomes who would get the money if she died. A second murder sets them on the right track however.—garykmcd
- The very day of Darren Moore's beach wedding to hotel owner Mike Watson's daughter Lisa, the bride is fatally shot with a harpoon from a spear gun standing on a suite balcony on the wedding party's VIP floor and falls down. The only fingerprints on the murder weapon are those of the owner, popular beefcake diving instructor Stefan, who has no motive. All guests have alibis, Darren inherits Lisa's mother's vast fortune which she came into by marrying, but probably didn't know, as even he mother Diane ignored the prenuptial she has draw up wasn't signed validly. Darren's womanizing best man Adam Fairs secretly planned to meet her about business loan, and has an affair with jealous spinster half-sister Sally Watson. Even Poome is clueless until the strangulation of hotel maid Margaret, so far only known because VIP suite butler William suspected her of abusing empty rooms for amorous purposes.—KGF Vissers
- The husband emerges from the ocean running to his lounging bride, greeting her with a kiss, as she admires her wedding ring, lightly admonishing him for looking at a passing bikini clad woman. The wedding ceremony attendees are the bride's step-father and step-mother, watching the best man hand the ring to the groom, while the maid of honor, half-sister Sally, stands there with a sour look, but the beach makes the idyllic setting for the nuptials, nonetheless. The wedding party has their final beach moment, before adjourning to the hotel. DI Poole runs out of the office, through the crowd, to a beachside restaurant for a welcome cup of tea. Soon afterward, DS Bordey sits at the same table, explaining they are to be remain inseparable, working together, with a reluctant Poole, adjusting to the island life. Camille orders her cocktail; the waiter delivers it, as the bride is seen falling off the hotel balcony. Camille stands, watching the woman crash to the ground. Poole notices the same occurrence, validating it with Bordey. Pictured on the stone steps below is the bride, with an underwater-spear pierced through her midsection.
DI Poole, DS Bordey, Officers Dwayne and Fidel exit the lift, are greeted by the floor butler, William, they enter room 502, Poole dashing to the window, eyeing the slab below where Lisa landed. Bordey identifies the spear gun from it lying on the room floor. Poole questions William on the identification of guests pairing with their respective rooms. The bridal suite is across from the vacant murder room, while the other rooms are named with the associated wedding party members. Diving lessons are offered at the hotel, per William, and taught by Stefan, who greets Poole with Bordey, as William leaves them with the handsome instructor. Stefan promises the detectives logbook lesson entries and an inventory of the spear guns by tomorrow, as they exit his shop.
Poole and Camille view the wedding party in the lift with help of the hotel manager, showing the closed-circuit video after the bride was killed. Poole determines one of the lift passengers they are looking at killed Lisa. The passengers include the parents, the best man Adam Fairs, Sally Watson, the groom Darren and William.
Poole hands Camille a list of family members he needs to be checked out via London. Bordey hands the list to Fidel and inquires with Poole what do we do next? Poole says we interview the wedding party members, starting with the parents and Sally. The detectives learn Lisa was a step-daughter to Diana, as Mike Watson explains, Lisa's mother died when Lisa was young. Former widow Mike continues, when he met Diana, she already had Sally, making her a step-daughter to Mike. When questioned, the VIP-suite-butler, William, says he was in the kitchen blending cocktails, and he believes Mike was in the bedroom.
Darren and Adam enter the room for questions. Sally leaves upset at the investigation, Adam has a call, he leaves to answer it. Everyone claims to be in their room, and William states he was making cocktails when he heard the screams from Mrs. Watson.
Poole questions how Lisa got into the room without a key? Nobody responds to his question. Lisa took a diving lesson, according to her father. Poole and Bordey interview Margaret, the maid for the floor, as she sets tables at the hotel restaurant. Margaret informs the detectives she let Lisa into the unoccupied room, and requests they keep it a secret, because she could get into trouble, commenting William is so strict. Margaret speculates, Lisa wanted to meet someone.
Poole has his easel with the check list: means, motive and opportunity, as he reviews the suspects with the police team. The question for all suspects, which include the wedding party, Stefan and William, is motive. None of the team can come up with a motive for killing the bride, and with a spear gun. Poole dismisses everyone for the evening, with a fresh start in the morning expected by everyone. Fidel leaves with the fingerprint pad and log book. DI Poole and DS Bordey talk the case details walking the island streets. Camille suspects William while Poole questions his motive having only met Lisa a few days prior to her death. Camille gets a call, leaving for a restaurant to meet Stefan. Claiming she is always on duty, she receives his questions and information. One spear gun remains missing and he confirms Lisa's lesson from two days ago. He has a girl friend and is simply passing the information on to the authorities, answering their inquiries as ordered; he leaves, Camille gets in the police vehicle with Poole, stating Stefan is dubious, at best. Camille needs a drink, taking Poole to La Kaz, her mother's restaurant, where he meets Catherine, after insulting her establishment, thinking he could never get a good cup of tea. The tea is welcomed, very drinkable, but mother and daughter are on the dance floor, with Poole alone with his tea.
Poole enters the station, Fidel has his head down at his desk, while Dwayne delivers the information Poole requested from London. Both Adam and Darren have minor convictions, while Michael Watson has experienced problems resulting from the past global credit crunch. Nothing on Diana or Sally Watson. Fidel obtained prints on all suspects, finding only Stefan's prints on the spear gun. The detectives confront Stefan on the beach, asking about his prints on the gun. He responds, what motive would he have to kill? He only met her that once. Dwayne and Fidel report the spear ruptured Lisa's heart, she was dead before she hit the ground. Poole requests they keep an eye on Stefan, he knows more than what he tells. Before she was killed, Lisa made a call to Adam Fairs, according to cell phone records.
They confront Adam about the phone call between he and Lisa. The explanation is Adam wanted to borrow money, and Darren is a control-freak and Mike already said no. Adam wanted the money to preserve his car business. Adam explains Lisa was wealthy, inheriting the trust money on the day of her wedding from her late-mother. Her parents once controlled the trust, and now Lisa is dead. Motive might be clearer for her murder, since the wealth would normally fall to the husband. Sally is impertinent to questions concerning Lisa and her money, and storms away from the table, leaving Darren and his new in-laws. Poole visits the wedding party table, questioning Darren, if he is granted his wife's wealth in view of her passing. A prenuptial agreement was signed a month before the wedding, granting Darren nothing, regardless of Lisa's status, living or deceased. Mike Watson states his family lawyers drew up the prenuptial agreement. Camille explains that Lisa did not sign the prenuptial agreement after all, rather she wrote a note saying she wouldn't consider signing it until after the wedding. Mike Watson informs the detectives Sally was engaged a year ago, and her husband was considered less than acceptable, as he was after the family money, and was paid to disappear for good. Mike said he thought the man would refuse the money, but he took it and departed, and Sally has never forgiven them.
The police team is back at the station with the chart, checking off individuals with and without motive. Camille does not believe the father, Mike Watson, had anything to do with Lisa's death, and Diana Watson is obsessed with money. Consensus is Sally could be a jealous suspect, Poole suspects Stefan, since his fingerprints were on the gun left in the room of the murder. Fidel takes a call, announcing it is the hotel, there has been another murder.
Poole speaks of an English bride is killed on her wedding day, and the maid that cleaned the room is also killed; why? Margaret's body lies on the floor, a mirror is shattered, Poole picks up something for Camille to bag as evidence, when Camille recalls seeing a similar object when she met Stefan, asking him if he had carved the object. Poole questions the hotel manager about Margaret. William had reported Margaret was using empty VIP suites for romantic liaisons, but it was never proven. The manager adds, Margaret possibly used the cleaning in progress sign on the door for the person she was meeting. Poole retorts, do you think she was using the room to have sex with guests? The manager says he does not know, there was never any evidence of such goings on involving Margaret.
Poole uses his hand to block the glaring sun entering the room where Margaret lies. Poole purposely moves his hand with fingers spread apart at the sunlight. Poole wanders out into the floor's foyer, requesting the lift door speed from Camille; it opens pretty quickly when the button is pushed. Poole continues to pace the foyer floor, when his epiphany occurs, prompting him to have Camille assemble the wedding party, including Stefan, out on the veranda in precisely eleven minutes. Dwayne instructs Stefan to come with Fidel and himself. Poole announces to the group, there has been another murder. The maid has been found dead, strangled. Poole reviews the known items with the assembled members by returning to the death of Lisa Moore. Adam wanted to borrow money from Lisa. Lisa was willing to give Adam whatever he needed, while Darren told her it was a bad idea, but she was wise enough to keep the whole enterprise from her parents, particularly her stepmother. Poole states when Lisa came into her money after she was married, she couldn't wait to show who was boss.
If Sally and Adam were an item, then they have an alibi after all. Mr. and Mrs. Watson were in their suite, leaving Darren as unaccountable. Darren openly states his philandering days are over, there would no one else but Lisa. Stefan comes to the meeting with the police officers and Poole requests everyone to join him in suite 502.
Mike confronts Poole, who killed my daughter? Poole responds, your daughter was killed by the only person here with the means, motive and opportunity. Poole first establishes Diana could not see who entered the murder room; she was in her room. Poole accuses William of murdering both women. The first victim had been the focus of a bride being murdered on her wedding day, when it was really an obsession with money. Margaret had a boyfriend already, so when she was given a rose from the bridal bouquet, she kept it. When William could not have Margaret for his own, he killed her. The spear gun was used to incriminate Stefan, since he handled every spear gun for a living. William always wore white gloves thus leaving no fingerprints of his own. William knew Margaret used the cleaning-in-progress label, but denied knowing about it when earlier questioned by DI Poole. When everyone returned from the wedding, it presented an opportunity to put the plan into action. William offered to make cocktails because it would make noise from the blender. Margaret planned to use the room, but Lisa got there first. The blender provided the distraction, the spear gun was pulled from the cocktail cart, using his access key for the room, William entered.
Poole mentions why he wanted everyone up here now, because Lisa was murdered at precisely fifteen-ten. William could not see his victim due to the blinding sun, he simply pulled the trigger, shot Lisa instead of Margaret. William dropped the spear gun, returned to the kitchen, switching off the blender, just in time to hear screams, everybody running to the window. Poole to William, perhaps if you had not pursued Margaret later, the case might have gone unsolved, but because you strangled her, it could only be a murder out of rage. Camille approaches William, lecturing him about his arrogant persona, and he reacts with attempts to choke her before being subdued by others. Poole has his men to read William his rights and take him away. Poole concludes the case by stating good work team.
The beach is pictured with Darren, Adam and Sally walking the shore, tossing leis into the water as a fitting tribute to the departed. Later, Mike and Diana Watson toss leis into the water as well. Poole in his suit, carrying his briefcase, Camille, in bare feet, discuss the past events, relieved the crimes are solved.
