- Cathy receives two minor pieces of bad news on her latest check up. The first is that none of the drugs' listed negative side effects have afflicted her, which to her means that the drugs aren't working. The second is that she has high blood pressure. Despite Cathy disregarding it upon Sean's suggestion, Cathy takes Lee's advice to visit an acupuncturist - his acupuncturist - to treat the high blood pressure. The acupuncturist has slightly better news: she immediately relaxed, which means a drop in blood pressure, when Lee entered the room. The acupuncturist attributes that relaxation to her and Lee being soul mates, which to Cathy can only mean in the spiritual but non-sexual sense seeing as to Lee's homosexual orientation. But those homo/heterosexual boundaries between Lee, Cathy and Paul are tested, as are Cathy's notions of what it means truly to be one's soul mate. Meanwhile, Mykail is anticipating his first date with Andrea and what he hopes will happen.—Huggo
- Cathy discovers that her blood pressure has gone up, but none of the side effects from her treatment (which would indicate it's working) are occurring. Meanwhile Lee reveals that he is attracted to 'bears' - large, hairy men - and Paul and Cathy accompany Lee to a gay bear bar where Paul receives much attention. Andrea goes on a date with Lars not realizing he is stealing thousands of dollars of electronics from Paul's workplace. Adam copes with the repercussions of his sexual tryst.—Anonymous
- Sean sits with Cathy at a check-up. She doesn't have any rashes and hasn't lost any finger nails or toe nails. She thinks no side effects from the clinical trial means it isn't working.
Cathy's blood pressure is slightly elevated. The nurse says Dr. Sherman will check it next week, but tells her to try to relax.
"And how exactly do you do that when you're terminally ill?" Cathy wonders.
Sean suggests acupuncture.
Cathy runs into Lee in the waiting room. He suggests acupuncture and Cathy listens. He takes her to see his acupuncturist, who specializes in cancer patients.
Lee checks on Cathy when she has needles in her face. The acupuncturist says that Cathy's blood pressure goes down when Lee comes in the room, like symbiosis. She calls them soul mates.
They compare lesions as she gets dressed. "So we're not soul mates, we're mole mates," he says.
Paul waits on endless hold with the insurance company. Mikael asks Paul if he thinks Andrea will let him kiss her on their date.
Paul finally gets through to a live person but has to hang up to help a customer, who turns out to be a former co-worker named Nick. Paul's a little horrified to run into him, but plays happy.
Nick asks if he works on commission and then says he wants to buy something. Paul notices a TV isn't where it was supposed to be. He bends over to look at it and throws out his back.
At home, Cathy makes tea with Lee and dismisses the notion of soul mates. Lee thinks special connections with people are possible.
Paul comes home, stooped in pain. Cathy tells Paul about her high blood pressure. Cathy announces Lee's gay and he says Paul is his type. He likes "bears."
Lee mentions he's going to a "bear bar" tonight. Cathy wants to go. Paul asks to tag along for the $2 beers.
Cathy finds Andrea trying out hairstyles for her date. She can't decide what look to go with. She's super nervous. Cathy just reminds her to pretend to be interested in whatever he says.
Adam interrupts, coming to get Andrea so she'll play her on-line poker hand. Cathy reminds him he's grounded from just about everything. He's rude to Andrea and she kicks him out.
At the gay bar, Paul marvels at all his dopplegangers. "Look! It's me making out with myself," he says of one couple. Cathy notices a guy in a wife beater checking Paul out. He enjoys the attention.
Cathy wanders off, and Paul thanks Lee for being her "cancer friend and her regular friend, too." Cathy realizes the bar probably has no ladies room.
Lee spots an Asian guy in the corner and goes to check him out, saying he'll never forgive himself if he doesn't go meet the "panda bear" in the corner.
Paul and Cathy admire the no frills aspect of the scene and make out.
Adam answers the door for Mik and tells him Andrea isn't coming down. Adam's shooing him away when she comes downstairs, warning Adam she'll deal with him when she gets home.
They leave and Sean comes in with wheat germ drink or something. He notices Adam is bummed and asks. Adam's ex girlfriend "de-friended" him. Sean wastes no time consoling him and instead says that's about what he should expect after what he did.
Adam wants her back, but Sean encourages him to look onward to the next woman. He also reminds Adam not take out his misery on other people, like Andrea.
Cathy and Paul brush up on their lingo at the bar. Paul drops his wallet and his back seizes as he goes to pick it up. A big bear in butt-less leather chaps comes over and asks to give Paul a hug before he can protest. He lifts Paul off his feet and cracks his back. He tells Paul to stop slumping. An astounded and delighted Paul announces that he's healed.
Cathy sees Lee coming out from the back room with his panda and exchanging numbers. Lee promptly throws it away.
He tells Cathy he wasn't soul mate material.
Mik and Andrea eat silently. He can't stop staring at her. He tells her the evening is like a dream. She says she has big dreams, too and that she plans to go to fashion school. She made the dress she's wearing. He breaks the tension by telling her she has salad in her teeth.
Back home, Cathy calls Lee and thanks him for a good night. She's soaking in her tub and he tells her he loves to meditate there. He has her put him on speaker. He leads her breathing and she gets lost in the sound of his voice.
After their date, Mik kisses Andrea good night. He opens his trunk and she sees a Bravia TV in it.
Cathy finishes up her call with Lee, getting completely turned on by his voice and letting her hands wander beneath the sudsy water.
When she opens her eyes, Marlene is sitting at the end of her tub. She's not there to judge, and says it's possible to have more than one soul mate. Cathy looks at her wedding ring and gasps.
Paul comes in with a candle for Cathy. He feels great and wants her to feel great, too. He sees she's nearly crying. She shows him her ring finger -- her nail is gone. The drugs are working.
"Bear hug!" he says, and grips her tight.
