Pilot: A light-hearted funny episode with some shades of entertainment. The acting is above-average and it has potential to be funnier. Nothing very much impressive though, just lightweight and light-hearted.

I love this episode. It's a great Series Premiere and it is just very entertaining.

In this episode, Zoe Hart, a surgeon's daughter finds out that she needs to go and join a small-town practice before she can become a proper surgeon. Since she's been having offers from Harley Wilkes to come join his practice in Bluebell, Alabama, since she graduated medical school, she decides to go there. But when she gets there she discovers that not only is Harley dead, but that he was actually her father. She decides to stay in the town and run the practice. She meets a lot of new, interesting and funny people on her first day in Bluebell. Such as Mayor Levon Hayes and new neighbor Wade.

Overall, I give this episode a 10 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Freaking Ridonkulous.

Disappointing, yet hopeful start to the series

Review: I am a big fan of Rachel Bilson and was really looking forward to this show for that one reason only. I was a little disappointed in watching the pilot for a number of reasons.

First of all, no offense to Rachel, but the dialogue for Zoe Hart felt too much like Summer (from The O.C.) pretending to be a doctor. It didn't give me the impression that Rachel was playing a new character. I just felt like I was seeing Summer all over again, which is nice in a way, but it is totally wrong for this show. Secondly, I thought it was a little strange that this was the ONLY option Zoe had. Just because she didn't get the fellowship in New York doesn't mean that she couldn't try her luck in other major cities. I felt like she could have had so many better options than to come to Blue Bells to start her medical career. Finally, the main issue I had with this show was how it depicted Southerners to be so backwards that they didn't even have electricity or had just put up satellite recently.

However, there are some aspects I liked about the pilot. For one thing, I enjoyed the main premise of the show, where we see Zoe make a major transition in trying to adjust in a small knit community, even though she really wishes she wasn't there. The end of the episode where Zoe finds out why Wilkes gave her half the practice was nicely done and to me was the highlight of the show. I also enjoyed watching the storyline of Zoe supporting Mabel.

Overall, I felt the pilot didn't meet my expectations, but I will still watch a few more episodes to see if it improves or not.
