Ravi Parsan explores the inner workings of the music industry and what he see as its decline and lack of artist development, groundbreaking artists and musical diversity. Punctuated with hundreds of interviews with an incredible array of artists including
Slash,
Radiohead,
Rush,
Steve Albini,
Henry Rollins,
Anvil,
Slayer and many others. While not an anti-pop nor an anti-corporate film, it simply asks the question: where will the next generation of great talent come from in this culture? Where will there be an alternative voice to the dominance of
The X Factor UK (2004) and
American Idol (2002), and for anyone who thinks that music in the mainstream sphere keeps getting less adventurous, more watered-down and banal. The film is broken up with over 200 talking heads with short surreal comedic sketches and wry subversive humour to punctuate the problems.
