- After Dave is in a fatal accident, he meets the Grim Reaper. Not wanting to die, Dave challenges the Grim Reaper to a game of chess. If Dave is able to beat the Grim Reaper, then his life will be spared, but for every piece that he loses to the Grim Reaper, someone who Dave cares about will die. Upon losing his first chess piece to the Grim Reaper, Dave decides to kill his business partner, Scott. On Earth, Scott buys a box of cookies, and dies shortly after realizing that they contain nuts, which he is allergic to. After seeing his dead friend, Dave decides to forfeit the game to the Grim Reaper so that no one else will die. The Grim Reaper refuses his forfeit, and forces Dave to continue. Next, Dave loses his Queen and Rook on back-to-back turns, who he names as his wife, Sheila, and his best friend, Tim. On Earth, Sheila and Tim are having an affair with one another. While having sex, they fall into a glass table, and Sheila dies from her wounds. The unconscious Tim awakens to an oven fire, and is impaled in the chest by a fireman who is attempting to break the door down with an axe, as Tim tries to exit the apartment. After Dave loses yet another piece, he chooses Mandy, his secretary. While jogging, Mandy stops on a set of train tracks to change her music and becomes distracted looking at a sign that reads 'HELLO MANDY, TIME TO DIE,' and Mandy is struck by a train. The Grim Reaper informs Dave that he is now out of friends, and since "acquaintances just won't do," Dave is forced to pick his mother to die next. Dave's mother is electrocuted when she tries to pry a piece of burning toast out of a toaster with a metal fork. The Grim Reaper beats Dave, and congratulates him on not only having himself be killed, but also for having killed all of his loved ones in the process. Dave laughs at the Grim Reaper and explains that he knew that Shelia and Tim were having an affair. His partner, Scott, was jealous of Dave's new promotion, and attempted to get the promotion taken away from him. Mandy was also aiding Scott, aware of his intentions. Dave also explains that either Tim or Mandy hired the man who killed him. The Grim Reaper is furious with Dave for toying with him, and threatens to not only kill him, but to torture him as will, to which Dave replies, "Do your worst." The Grim Reaper laughs, and says because Dave cheated, he will have to play the Grim Reaper again, but all those who died will stay dead. The Grim Reaper, who was aware of Dave's intentions, tells Dave to, "Play like you mean it," knowing that Dave may be a decent chess opponent. As the short ends, the Grim Reaper asks Dave why he wanted his mother dead, to which Dave replies "I never liked her much."
