A lovely delayed tribute

A telecom decided to make this special commercial on the verge of Valentine's Day (here it takes place on 12 June), a clip to a famous song that didn't have any video back in the time of its release, in 1986. Legião Urbana's "Eduardo e Mônica" is one of their greatest and most admired contributions to Brazilian popular music, one of those tunes and lyrics that conquers Greeks and Trojans with its humored, cute and original telling of a couple who have nothing in common but manage to win the outcomes of life and of themselves. I don't recall this commercial being much on TV back in the day, and if it were it wasn't for too long because 4 minutes projects happens once in a lifetime until the company reduces the air-time (too much $). But it's right there on YouTube yet.

The song is part of the imaginary of many listeners out of there ever since the 1980's, so a 2011 clip about the most famous musical/fictional couple of all-time is something that shouldn't be touched at no point. But the creative team behind the video made something relevant and beautiful with it. It made us reflect and enjoy the real pair played Pedro De Vitto (as Eduardo) and Thaís Medeiros (Mônica). Surely, the clip isn't an exact representation of the music, there are flights of imagination in it but the dynamic presented in the music is right there: the guy is of high-school age, with limited cultured tastes and experiences while the girl is older, already in college, head filled with wide topics from music, classic literature and astrology...but somehow they clicked and it was near-perfection!

The pair of actors was good, despite my ideal going into another direction and since it's a clip with the music and the actors aren't allowed to show their acting potentials, I won't complain much about them. The makers of the video got the right tone for it: it's dreamy, romantic and a perfect portrait on how we imagine fictional (and why not real) relationships to be - lovely, complicated, filled with love, respect, differences and similarities. An immortal song like "Eduardo e Mônica" needed a video and this one seems the most appropriate so far. 9/10
