A solid first episode.

Alice Newman gets a massive shock, when she sees brilliant, respected climate scientist Rob Chance wandering around in front of her, the last time she saw him, some fifteen years ago, he scammed money from her and her father.

It's definitely an interesting start, it put me in mind of Rain Dogs from earlier in the year, it's a similar vibe. Initially I thought it was going to be dramedy series, and there are a few humorous moments, but it's perhaps more serious.

There are a few questions, didn't Alice become aware of Rob's presence before these events, he seemed to be quite a prominent public figure, I'd also like to know why her mother is siding with him.

Rebekah Station, Marianne Jean Baptiste and Alistair Petrie are all excellent here, every character is sincere, although I could watch Baptiste in anything.

I have high hopes for this new one, The BBC is smashing the dramas this year.

7/10.

To some of my female acquaintances. The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies is not a drama, it is a documentary.

They married narcissistic swindlers, who left them homeless and in debt. Then finding out that the errant husband blamed the wife for their misfortunes to their friends. The friends actually believing them as they hopped off to find their next victim.

Dr Rob Chance (Alistair Petrie) is a sociopathic conman who claims to be an environmentalist and on an expedition to the North Pole. He has designs on successful author Cheryl Harker (Marianne Jean-Baptiste.) She is rich, has a successful series of books but has been recently widowed. Something that gives Chance a window of opportunity to exploit.

However his ex wife Alice (Rebekah Staton) has spotted him. She thought he was dead, he popped out one day never to return. Taking with him her money and that of her parent's retirement funds.

Now she sees her ex husband reinvented as an academic, explorer and a climate scientist. He is on the con.

Billed as a black comedy drama. I expected this to be offbeat as Alice's scarlet cape. It was more conventional than I thought despite some talking to the camera. A promising opener but the trailers made it more riveting.
