A Solid Entry with Room for Improvement
ameerbarram8 July 2023
One of the strengths of this episode is its ability to maintain a consistent tone and atmosphere. The cinematography effectively captures the mood of the scenes, creating a sense of tension and unease. The use of lighting and color palettes adds depth to the visuals, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The production design is also commendable, with attention to detail that brings the setting to life.

However, the plot of this episode feels somewhat lacking. The narrative unfolds at a slow pace, with moments that drag and fail to hold the audience's attention. While there are some intriguing twists and turns, they are not fully explored or given the necessary weight to have a significant impact. The pacing could have been tightened to create a more engaging and dynamic storyline.

Character development in this episode is also a mixed bag. While some characters experience growth and transformation, others feel underutilized or sidelined. The performances by the cast are generally solid, but there are moments where the dialogue feels forced or unnatural. The writing could have delved deeper into the characters' motivations and inner conflicts to create a more compelling narrative.

Visually, this episode is decent but lacks the wow factor of previous installments. The cinematography is competent, but there are missed opportunities to create visually striking shots. The use of music and sound design is adequate, but it doesn't leave a lasting impression.

In terms of writing and direction, this episode falls short of its potential. The script lacks the depth and complexity seen in previous episodes, and the editing feels disjointed at times. The narrative could have benefited from tighter storytelling and a more cohesive structure.

Episode 207
bobcobb30110 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This definitely brought the story forward a lot because we finally see a potential end game here: get a message to the outside and/or kill all of the monsters. We know neither plan will work this season, but we'll see what happens.

Some good jump scares in this one, which is not always the easiest thing to do in the world of television, especially when you try to do a show that is kind of mainstream. The moment at the end will likely be another dream, a key theme of this episode and perhaps moving forward, but that does not make it any less entertaining.

A good step forward after some questionable episodes.

Don't believe the haters
evareitenbach7 June 2023
From is a show that beautifully stitches together suspense and mystery. Unfortunately it doesn't get to the broad mainstream yet. But since it took it's next step in popularity, there is a lot of hate from a few people popping up on Reddit. Not criticism, but undirected hate almost against everything in the show. After that you suddenly saw ratings on IMDb decline for some episodes, which don't do the show justice.

In my opinion some episodes are weaker in terms of action, because they are putting more focus on the character development. This isn't one of them. From my point of view it has a great balance between keep-you-on-the-edge horror and much-needed dialogue. I, for one, want to care about the characters, and I don't mind a slow burn. It follows tightly the story of the former episode and increases the stress level in the show.

And again, some outstanding acting in it, like from Harold Perrineau and Elizabeth Saunders. Absolute recommendation. Especially, if you liked Lost, The Leftovers and the first season of Wayward Pines.

And the show continues
raphaelsmith-7863019 June 2023
Firstly, people who expect action to happen i would like to remind You its a MYSTERY show which means it will be slow peaced. This show requires a patience, it will have a lot of plots. I guess it will have like 5 seasons.

As for this episode, i really have enjoyed it. Smiley got something inside him that will allow Boyd and rest figure out how to fight those creatures. Mari is getting same visions as Boyd and Elgin. Everything seems to be connected.

I believe show got on the track, needs patience. Don't expect anything to happen instantly. Creators of LOST, so we can expect 5 seasons, for sure .

Slow...again.
elderpampar4 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode could have been great!

It could have been an episode where we get a deep autopsy into the corpse of one of the monsters and captive the audience, even MAYBE give us some answers.....but no.

We get 45mins of back and forth slow conversations that are suited for a soap opera and Kristi freaking out and stabbing a corpse to pieces.

In this episode we get a pointless conversation between Victor and Ethan about the season changing (even though this was established before). Another boring conversation between Julie and Elgin which served no purpose.

The writers are stretching this story so thin over this season that it is boring and infuriating the audience.

It gets a generous 4
nicmegara6 June 2023
And I mean a really generous 4! Although if we're grading "slowness" it would get 10 stars.

Just when you think the show is going somewhere it pulls you back down and introduces pregnancy, and withdrawal . Ok notice to the writers: We are past the mid point of season 2 and we still have no idea what this place is! For a show to survive you need to give the audience, your fans some form of answers !

First season was great and had a great cliffhanger! But this season has just been terrible! Now we're 7 episodes in and still nothing.

We get nonsensical dialogue that neither has substance or entertainment!

At this point you've probably lost a lot of fans and you probably won't get a season 3 after this disaster so what's the point in wasting my/our time with watching !

Filler..filler...filler...filler
leeftr5 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The previous episode looked like a return to form, but this episode came crashing back down to earth. Long, boring conversations between characters fill the show. There's an excruciatingly boring scene in Colony House with Ellis, Fatima and the teenage girl where rough and gruff Donna acts like a mother figure.

There's an excruciatingly boring scene where Kenny acts like a spoiled child when they want to do an autopsy on the creature. There's an excruciatingly boring scene between the tech billionaire and the mother. There's a boring scene when Ellis and Fatima enter Colony house after returning from the hospital that screams "time wasting". There's an excruciatingly boring scene where the parents discuss if their kids should go to visit Colony House.

The payoff of the episode, the autopsy on the creature just sees the medical student freaking out and punching it's abdominal cavity...for no apparent reason. Boring and anticlimactic.

Either there are two teams of writers on this show, and this was the "B" team. Or they're just marking time and writing inane scenes because this season had too many episodes.

This episode was unbelievably boring. If I could have watched this on double speed (or more) I would have.

The Experiment is finally revealed!
jamosmonk8 June 2023
This show bears no resemblance to the first season. What happened? There is so much material to work with and that could be explained but absolutely none of it my is being explained. However I think I have figured it out. This season IS the experiment. WE the audience Are whom is being experimented on. To see how long us idiots will watch something that goes nowhere and does nothing. A pregnancy?! What's next a wedding episode?? Something is up. It's as if ALL of the writers left the show and Chat gpt is writing the episodes now to see if we humans can be fooled. Like a Turing test except for audiences instead.

Something or Nothing?
Shauny_325 June 2023
"BILE IS SOMETHING!"-Wow, riveting. I'm not sure what people are smoking when giving it good reviews, but I cannot find any redeeming features from this season.

The first season wasn't original but at least it managed to offer something fun, and the character's story arcs were more or less compelling.

Season 2 seems to fail at everything. Boring, dumb, and so much filler. 90% of the episodes are conversations that lead nowhere, 5% is hallucinations that are really grating and the other 5% is mediocre action.

"From" is a pale imitation of Lost and even Wayward Pines. What's most annoying is that all of the issues could've been easily avoided. How long until it's cancelled?

Sloppy writing
semocooool7 June 2023
I'm extremely disappointed. The show had a great start, a wonderful plot and world. Season one, especially in the beginning, was sooo intriguing. I was nailed to my seat. There was some bla bla bla scenes here and there, a lot of screaming that is not necessary, but I didn't care because I was getting something. However this season two man!! Just sucks! I don't blame the actors (a little bit maybe because I cringed a lot) I mainly blame the writers. So many side talks that are meaningless and have nothing to do with the story. We are in episode 7 and almost nothing important happened. I had such high hopes for this series but not anymore. What a shame.

I don't understand anymore...
aijaburkevica8 June 2023
This is a horror series that ONLY has 10 episodes per season. It's not The Bold and the Beautiful, which has 9,000 episodes and each one can be slow because there's no rush. Season 2 of From is about to end, but viewers have seen nothing more than very boring chatter and hysteria. Almost the entire season consists of fillers - pointless walking back and forth and dialogues that are boring, impersonal and minimally related to the resolution of the plot. That's why I don't like enymore even the characters who seemed likable from the beginning. Even the monsters look a lot more shabby, dirty and hopeless (much dumber?) this season.

Too bad, this was a really promising show. Now it's a sleeping pill.

They really must think we are idiots
emrekaragoz-943465 June 2023
I truly cant believe how mind numbingly bad this show has become this season. I am embarassed that I reccomended it to people after last season because the writing and acting may literally be the worst on tv right now. It has all the bad traits from lost where they just keep throwing new stuff at you thats crazier and crazier, but theres no resolution.

The biggest problem though is the acting which is compounded by unrealistic writing of conversations. This causes every single character to be INCREDIBLY unlikeable im starting to hate them all except Boyd and the dad. Who had three mins on screen this episode.. again. I cant help but wonder what that actor thinks bc him and Boyd are the only two actors (and maybe his wife/jade/victor) who seem to be cast appropriately and are not out of their league. The cast has such a dramatic variance in their skill level it is jarring. And new characters like the bus driver and angry drone boy get 1minute and say 40 of the same words per episode.

Kenny is getting so annoying and his love the nurse is quickly approaching him as equally annoying. The characters are just so unlikeable and its because they shove two of them into a room and have these low level actors tackle this terrible script as best they can.

The worst part is that the idea for the show is interesting enough and you can take it in many interesting directions but their choices have been lazy, repetitive, and getting pointlessly more and more far fetched.. which makes the ultimate conclusion inevitably be a lesser and lesser payoff. When we finally do find out what's going on its going to be stupid and entirely supernatural meaning anything is possible. What everyone was watching for was to see how the story would turn out and whats going on... maybe it has a more logical answer and involves other humans or maybe it was more scientific and would be explained by jade how all their different locations and times are related to the theory of relativity and the time space continuum was ripped bc of one common thread linking every single one of them.. or something wacky like that. But now we know the answer will be something the writers at the time (in the future if the series is picked up for another season) think up that fits with what was already revealed without mucking it up too much with plot holes. Maybe theyll bring Palpatine back .. maybe he is Victor's fa-ther?

Losing Interest Fast
john-west838 June 2023
First season was good. Not great. Enough of a mystery and decent characters. This season is slow and now we've added more characters without building on the ones we know already. We've got no answers, just more questions and things are getting nonsensical. I was with this show for a while, but I'm losing interest fast.

The show had promise but I'm now convinced Hollywood's main goal is to suck people in and then purposely disappoint viewers. Every episode need not be fast paced, action oriented or even move the story forward...but dear god...every episode this season has been a filler episode. Give us something! Do better.

A Slow-Burning Episode That Lacks Thrills
RebelPanda6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
From's seventh episode of the second season, titled "Belly of the Beast," aired on June 4, 2023. Clocking in at 48 minutes, this installment fell short in terms of pacing and action, leaving viewers wanting more.

One of the major disappointments in this episode was the lack of scares and action. The only frights came in the form of the characters' nightmares, particularly Mari's encounter with the deceased monster, Boyd, which turned out to be little more than a cheap jumpscare. It felt unearned and failed to deliver the anticipated adrenaline rush.

Half the focus of this episode revolved around the conflicts within the Matthews family. Jim and Tabitha engaged in arguments over seemingly trivial matters, such as their children's activities and the company they keep. Jim's reluctance to let Ethan spend time with Victor due to his peculiar behavior and gun-carrying tendencies clashed with Tabitha's gratitude towards Victor for saving her life. While these disagreements added some tension to the narrative, they failed to compensate for the overall lack of action and excitement.

Jade briefly appeared in the episode to discuss his visions with Tabitha, who also experiences similar phenomena. It has been a long time coming for them to explore these shared experiences, raising hopes for a meaningful development in the storyline. However, at this point, the outcome remains uncertain, leaving viewers hanging on yet another cliffhanger.

Unfortunately, the new character, Elgin, remained an enigma throughout the episode, lacking any distinctive personality traits or memorable characteristics. His presence only serves as a setup for the final jumpscare at the end, which felt forced and predictable.

The plot primarily revolved around Boyd's autopsy, with Kristi, Danny, and Boyd himself conducting the examination in search of the blood responsible for his demise. Danny's constant resistance to various aspects of the autopsy process, initially refusing to bring the body into the clinic and later hesitating to make incisions, felt like nothing more than a stall tactic. It became frustrating to witness his predictable reluctance, as if the writers were simply saving a big twist for the next episode. Ultimately, this stretched-out subplot felt like filler material that could have been condensed into a mere ten minutes at most.

Overall, "Belly of the Beast" was a slow-paced episode that failed to provide the thrills and excitement expected from a supernatural thriller. Lacking in action and relying heavily on unresolved conflicts and inconclusive shared hallucinations, it left viewers yearning for a more engaging installment. The music box, the imagined dead bodies, and now Fatima's shriveled corpse hanging around a bathtub like The Grudge, what does it all mean? With a lackluster execution and a reliance on jump scares, this episode ultimately fell short of its potential.

Oh boy .. What happened to this show. Talk about a flop
mpboylanjr-5403813 June 2023
Once again we get an episode that teeters on possibly giving us something of an answer to who and what and why only to fold onto the same boring dragged out plots we've been dealing with all season. They start something that seems like it will be a breakthrough and just leave us on a cliffhanger, and I don't mean a good one. There's too much going on and not enough answers to the plots they are tossing out to us. The weird guy just stumbled around giving us nothing but clips of what could be an answer only to go on about the stupid drawings that we have no answer to what they mean or serve a purpose for. The acting is HORRIBLE and the writing is lazy. I warned people they were not expecting to probably even have a second season and rushed to try and put something together. So far they've failed miserably. Unless the last few episodes blow me away which let's be honest is not going to happen then I'd say this was one of the worst 2nd seasons and let down I can recently remember for a TV show. I mean I'm surprised the overall rating hasn't dropped to a 6. I'm being overly generous with a 5. I just want 1 answer next episode or at least the conclusion to 1 of these ridiculous plots that we get no answer to each week. A tip to the writers would be to at least finish a plot before you start 3 new ones each episode. My lord does this stink lol.

Disappointing Shift in Tone and Pacing
abdikhaliqaden6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know how this episode is receiving 10-star reviews. Have people forgotten what the show was originally intended to be? Remember the intense and suspenseful nature of episodes 1 and 2? It seems as though the focus has shifted towards turning this into a drama series. This a horror and thriller show. I don't care if these characters talk how much they love each other. You can find other ways to make a character more entertaining than just them talking and explaining what they're going through. Please bring back the horror/thriller and mystery part of the show.

The only thing i liked about this episode was their exploration of the creature's body. However, the writers chose to unnecessarily elongate that scene. Jim and Randall form a partnership to fix the radio, but disappointingly, they end up doing nothing but engaging in lengthy conversations. There hasn't been an episode where they take decisive action and see it through within and solve it in the same episode, except for this episode. But still in that scene opening the monster, the characters seemed to oscillate between expressing concerns about the situation and debating whether or not to discard it. It was irritating when Kenney changed his like 4 times before he decided he was going to help them. The show unnecessarily prolonged moments that should have been resolved more swiftly.

The new characters from the bus feels disconnected from the main plot, making them largely irrelevant. What truly bothers me, however, is the lack of realism in the character's actions. At times, their interactions feel forced and unnatural, almost as if they're NPCs or robots conversating. Genuine human behavior wouldn't involve constantly hiding secrets and only revealing tidbits of information each episode. For instance, Tabitha discovered the monsters sleeping location early in season 2, yet it took her a staggering seven episodes to share this crucial information with just one person. Such delays can be incredibly frustrating for viewers.

Characters I want to see get killed off in the next episode and not another moment of screentime: Fatima, Julie, Elgin, Dale, Tabitha and the lesbian couple. These characters offer little to none and drag down the show or are horrendously annoying.

Furthermore, it's essential for the show to address the unresolved mysteries from the end of season 1. The viewers were left with a multitude of intriguing questions, yet none of them have been answered so far. It's disheartening to witness the impression that the writers are deliberately stalling and lacking a clear direction for the storyline. The audience eagerly anticipates a for satisfying conclusion to these mysterious questions, and it is very important for the creative team behind the show to prove they can give a satisfying answer.

Talk talk talk
madman-6386217 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
All they do is talk about nothing. NOTHING. Every effort they make is fruitless and every conversation is pointless. No one makes good decisions. The idea of autopsy-ing that thing inside was just stupid. Cut the head and hands off and do it outside. The ones that work together make the worst decisions and every good idea is never followed through. The suspense is simply suffering through pointless episodes in order to get any ounce of action rung out of five minutes of a 45 minute show. One actor carries everything and everyone else simply is horrible. Whats the plan for this show? Are better writers in the wings? Is that strike over yet because someone needs to rescue this crumb of a show.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it...
charlieedmond27 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Kristi, Ethan, Kenny, Kristi's fiancee and Julie are literally the worst parts of this show.

Kristi's character can't decide if she's suffering from trauma or she has a God complex.

Ethan, the kid, has the worst acting I've ever seen from a child actor. I mean, I'm sure he's a decent actor but this show doesn't make him shine.

Kenny's character can't decide if he wants to help the sheriff, if he still wants to be a deputy to the sheriff and he most of all, can't decide which side of the fence he wants to be on. I would not be surprised if by the end of season 2, he is killed off because clearly the writers don't know what to do with his character. He had a good acceptance arc going on but then the whole "killer must be killed" thing happened and he lost his ability to think and listen.

Julie and the new teen from the Bus add literally nothing. The show didn't need another mysterious character, we already have Victor, played by a brilliant actor. Now we have another mysterious teen actor who can't act their character to be nearly as well as the already intriguing and mysterious characters. I'm certain, that new teen has only one facial expression which is deadpan.

There's a few other characters who dip in and out of mediocrity such as Jim's character and his wife as well.

Fatima, Boyd, Donna, Victor, Jade, Ellis and the monsters are literally the saving grace of this show. And yet, they all had less screen time than their mediocre counterparts.

This episode had one purpose! But it focused on like 5 different things! WHY!

Tiring
ioanaabogdan6 May 2024
This has got to be one of the most tiring shows I have ever seen! Just say something to solve a bit of the mystery already!!! Enough with Kenny, I cannot stand his character anymore! And enough with Kristi. These two are ruining what has the potential to be a really good story. I do not care about their story together or about Kristi and her lover's story at all. They are annoying. Period. After one season and a half is time to give a sense of what's going. I keep on watching because I am waiting to know what is this place.

Very, very tiring. The writers are seriously mocking their viewers with all this dragging. Sometimes I feel like even those who wrote this show don't know what's going on.
