Welcome to the third installment of my ongoing series of articles that collects great horror short films.
If you have not already done so, please check out the first two installments of this series “Watch 15 Great Horror Short Films” and its follow-up “Watch 13 More Great Horror Short Films” not only because you’ll love them but also because films and filmmakers mentioned in those articles are referenced in this one.
Short form horror aficionados will also want to check out a recent article I wrote called “The Greatest Horror Anthology Film Segments of All Time”.
As you readers know, the horror short film is an artistic endeavor that can serve as a film industry calling card. A perfect example of this is the recent announcement of the feature film version of Can Evrenol’s superb horror short Baskin.

Craig Dilouie is an author of fiction. Some of his titles include The Infection and Tooth and Nail. Some of these books have been reviewed on this site. Dilouie has taken the time to compile a "Best of" list, which focuses on zombie horror short films. His list is titled "My Top 10 List of Apocalyptic Short Films." One of the features from this list, titled "Perished," is here. Fans of zombie horror and film are invited to take a look at all of the films on Dilouie's list, which is linked below. "Perished" is an award winning film. Also, this title has seen several film festivals. And, the film involves a survivor of a zombie apocalypse. Though, survivor is a term used loosely. Film fans can watch as one man faces starvation and isolation, while looking to escape a zombified city. Viewers are encouraged to watch the title, until the end.

Slacking off... we're all guilty of it, especially during our formative high school years. 'Stay in school,' our parents and teachers would always tell us, but I think it's safe to say that most of us were more concerned with hanging out with friends and enjoying our youth than we were burying our heads in books and doing our homework. But there are consequences for playing hookey, and those consequences are sometimes far worse than a slap on the wrist and an after-school trip to detention...

After playing at SXSW last year, Australian zombie short Perished has finally made its way online for the rest of the world to see. Written, directed and produced by Stefan A. Radanovich and Aaron McCann (the latter the co-creator of the It's a Snap ad that we loved at Twitch) the short is four slices of awesome. And brutal.Amidst a zombie outbreak a broken man on the run seeks refuge in a shed and accidentally locks himself inside. Isolated, alone and low on supplies, he is quickly stripped of all his humanity as he struggles to survive. As the days go by the deteriorated man must rebuild his inner strength to escape and finally confront his ultimate fear.Check it out below....

From my experience, horror films are always the most interesting but least attended films at smaller film festivals as festival audiences seem to be more interested in stories about losing your virginity than werewolves and zombies. However, two venues in Telluride, Colorado hope to serve that small group of dedicated art-house horror fans with three days of horror films from around the world at the 3rd annual Telluride Horror Show.
Below is the list of films scheduled to screen at the Telluride Horror Show, which takes place on October 12, 13, and 14, 2012.
The 3rd annual Telluride Horror Show is a 3-day “genre fans will experience the latest horror films from all over the world in Telluride’s historic Sheridan Opera House and Nugget Theatre. The festival screens an average of 20 feature films and 25+ short films and hosts special programs, guests, and a party or two. The Telluride Horror Show was named one...

Australia’s Revelation Perth International Film Festival will be holding it’s explosive 15th annual edition on July 5-15 with one of it’s most jam-packed lineups yet.
One of the most special events that Revelation will be holding is July 14‘s retrospective of the films of Jeff Keen, the pioneering British underground filmmaker who very sadly just passed away on June 21. Keen’s work has been having a major resurgence lately and Revelation is the latest organization to so boldly feature his breathtaking experimental film work, from classics like 1967′s Marvo Movie to modern films like Artwar (1993) and Joy Thru Film (2000). This is absolutely an event not to be missed.
Another staggering event this year is a very special live presentation of Crispin Hellion Glover‘s notorious underground films What Is It? and It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine. (Click film titles for Bad Lit reviews!) These very...

I've just watched this three times in quick succession and you should too: it's a digital short created by Australian comedy duo Henry Inglis & Aaron McCann to advertise the Central Institute of Technology, a real West Australian tech college that runs film courses. They've done their job with the short going viral. The creator of Community Dan Harmon helped it along via Twitter -- after walking in on his team of writers watching it. And it's no wonder, the short mixes the horrific and the funny in that perfect mix we're used to seeing in Nash Edgerton's shorts work. Turns out the guys have more stuff to back this up, with McCann's short film Perished selected for SXSW this year. Watch the digital short below. Then watch it again. ...

A sci-fi comedy about Nazis returning from the moon, a drama following a Tassie Tiger hunt and a doco about an Australian sex worker make up some of the Australian projects screening at the upcoming SXSW Festival in the Us.
Feature films, docos and shorts have been announced for the prestigious festival held in Austin, Texas in March. This follows the news that six local digital projects were chosen to battle it out at the festival's Awards on March 13.
Psychological drama The Hunter, starring Willem Dafoe, will have its Us premiere at the festival in the .headliners. section. The film, which grossed more than $1 million at the local box office, was picked up for Us distribution from Magnolia Pictures after a positive screening at Toronto in September last year. The distributor is planning on a release through its Ultra-vod program, which allows cable subscribers to watch the film for about...

Robert G. Putka‘s Mouthful and Jared Varava‘s Tumbleweed! are two short films that have been selected to screen at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival, which will run in Austin, TX on March 9-17.
Mouthful is Putka’s second short film, a verbally raunchy comedy starring Eilis Cahill and Conor Casey as a young couple whose relationship becomes strained thanks to an overly frank discussion about their sexual histories. The film was recently reviewed on Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film saying “one shouldn’t assume too much how the premise of a young man and woman discussing [male] anatomy will play out.”
Putka has also mounted an IndieGoGo campaign to help fund his filmmaking team’s trip to SXSW and for marketing material, such as posters, T-shirts, press kits and such. If you want to help out, please visit the Mouthful IndieGoGo page.
